Beginning the year as a college Freshman, Nick was still adjusting to the fact he was a shapeshifter. Dealing with starting college, living away from home, and the side effects of his new powers, life was challenging enough. The one bright spot was meeting Jared, a dance major and creative partner to Nick’s good friend, Abby.
What starts out as a seemingly normal year, and the possibility of love quickly turns to danger as Nick discovers a war between a renegade sect of humans and shapeshifters. To make things worse, his parents lied to him about his powers and have been giving him medication to diminish them. Once Nick’s powers start to truly emerge, he must work with a pack of shifters he has just met to try to master them, but he wonders what other agenda they have. Soon, instead of focusing on college and falling for Jared, Nick must decide who he can trust- the new pack trying to recruit him, his parents, his new boyfriend, or himself? All have secrets, which may not only doom Nick’s relationship but endanger all of their lives.
Noah Harris is a 28-year-old bisexual man currently single and living in a small apartment in New York.
Being a natural introvert with significant extrovert tendencies he expresses himself through the world of writing MM books, often with a darker, paranormal twist. His books are written from the heart of his deep, sensitive and mysterious, but playful and creative, wild spirit.
Noah is dedicated to giving something back to the universe, sharing generously in his successes and inspiring and motivating others through his writing and in any other way he can. He believes in living a natural, healthy lifestyle and has embraced meditation as a way of clearing the 'noise' in his head and allowing his dark creativity to shine through in his books.
He is determined to reach out to as many readers, who he considers his 'friends', as he can through his unique personal touch and through building like-minded communities online. It is this personal touch, with his readers, that sets him apart from most other authors today.
The book started out real choppy, like skim reading the script of an action move to get the gist of it. I didn't like that there was no proper dating period or friendship period for Nick and Jared. Initially Nick says that he will later realise why he felt scared when Jared approached, but there is no mention of it even at the end.
I think, the book sorely needed a beta reader or two. So many parts could have gone better had they had a proper transition between them. It was like sitting on the Cups and Saucers ride in amusement parks in my state--the narrative jerked me around in random directions at random intervals, no story or rhythm to it.
As the part approached where the two factions--shifters and humans--faced off with each other, that is when I felt the pace to be fine. It was an action-filled climax, and I much appreciated the lack of unnecessary monologues and dilly dallying.
But having read some of the really great works by the author, I feel this was a very unfinished product. A lot of smoothing of rough edges is needed, probably by a sandpaper. I did get involved at the end, but that is too late for me to count it among good books.
I think I will hold out for the author's usual style of books, as he has really mastered how to garner the readers' attention and keep it.
Noah Harris brings us another exciting story about a young adult named Nick. Nick grew up in the human world and never knew he was a shifter until he turned eighteen.
His parent’s kept it from their two children by suppressing their natural being by using Nydor capsules for as long as they could. But when Nick started college and was away from home he started to come into some of his powers even while on Nydor.
What’s interesting about this story for me was there’s a pack of shifters. I never thought of them as shifting into anything they needed to be or wanted to be. I’ve always thought of specific shifters, wolves, bears, animals in general, but they could not shift into any form of animal or object that a shifter could.
Nick he learned the hard way to shift and the fact that he could shift at all. At college he had three shifters approach him. Michael was the leader of the pack, Isda, his second in command and Gideon. They were recruiting Nick to join the pack. Michael specifically had in mind why he wanted Nick in the pack.
They explained to Nick he wouldn’t come into his full powers until he stopped taking the Nydor, but he didn’t feel comfortable about that or what to think of the three pressuring for him to join. Nick decided to go home for the weekend and talk to his parents about this.
Nick in the meantime had met a gorgeous man, Jared who was a dancer like his friend Abby. Nick had Abby join him in going home for the weekend and to Nick’s surprise Jared was going with them and the man hopped into the front seat. The two hit it off and Nick wanted to see more of Jared.
While at home the three met at the beach to go swimming and kayaking. It was here that Nick fell into the water and Gideon from the pack pulled Nick under and kept him under to force Nick into shifting. Nick was terrified he would drown and never see Jared again. When Nick started to lose what air he had in his lungs, nature took over and turned him into a crocodile to be able to breathe.
Jared was paddling with all his might to reach Nick. Underneath the water Nick realized what happened and got to the surface but was still in his crocodile form. He went under again and changed back to his base form which is human. Jared saved him. But it was so draining for Nick that he was out for three days straight.
After returning to college, Nick and Jared started seeing each other as boyfriends. Michael was not happy about that and told Nick he couldn’t see Jared anymore because he was human. Michael was not going to stop seeing Jared because he was human, he cared for Jared.
As time went on, Nick learned about a group of humans that were at war with the shifters and Nick and Jared ended up in the middle of this war. On an innocent weekend with Jared at his home, which was under high security, Nick never suspected anything of Jared’s father when he met him. He seemed very nice.
With Jared’s fathers involvement with the human group, the pack suspected Jared to be helping his father. Nick didn’t believe this and went to warn Jared and ended up almost getting capture, but Jared saved him.
The story continued on with action all the way to the end. With an unexpected death, running for their lives, prisoner exchange, kidnapping, heroic recues, and getting to the bottom of the truth. It’s an exciting, compelling story that kept me reading and waiting to see what happened next. The romantic feelings between Jared and Nick were precious.
This is a well written book and would highly recommend it. It’s worth the journey these two MCs went through to be together. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
NH has brought us a slightly different take on the whole shapeshifter genre, thrown in lots of action, lots of bad guys and a touch of romance, making this well worth reading.
Nick is in college, he’s making new friends and he’s met a cute guy called Jared. If he can get his head around the fact that he’s a shapeshifter and remember to take his medication, he should be ok. He’s not sure why he has to take the pills or what they actually do but his parents have assured him that it’s really not worth not taking them. That’s ok till he meets other shifters who try to convince him that his meds are only suppressing his natural powers and he can be so much more without them. Pack leader Michael has been closely observing Nick for years and has high hopes for him but it will take some persuasion to convince the young man that everything he has believed until now hasn’t been the whole truth and that if he joins the pack, they can help him reach his full potential.
With all these new discoveries comes the knowledge that not everyone approves of the shifters and there are some who are out to capture them and use them. They’ve developed some high-tech ways of trapping shifters so when Nick and Jared are in danger, will Nick know what to do and will he accept that he needs the shifter pack and accept that that is where he belongs?
I really enjoyed this. There is obviously the developing romance between Nick and Jared but it takes a back seat to the main story and I like the fact that we don’t spend too much time on them as a couple, so the reader focuses on the real action. The characters are likeable and this is easy to read and follow. Like I said, there is some new stuff in here and it certainly kept me interested. I hope we get a sequel to this as I’d like to see how Nick and Jared get on in the future and I want to find out if Nick harnesses his powers and will he take Jared along with him even though he is human. Roll on book two....

Summary:
"I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book."
You would think that Nick's life was all set. He was starting his freshman year in college and his best friends, Sal and Nick, were there to share everything with him. What no one knew that on his eighteenth birthday his parents informed him that he and his sister were shifters like they were. While everyone around him were human his abilities forced him to hide what made him different to keep him safe and the only thing keeping the changes back was the powder Nydor his parents had been dosing him with for as long as he could remember. Things began to change when he met Jared Finley Sal's dance partner who was everything that Nick wanted in a guy. Things begin to go sideways when Nick is introduced to the local pack learning that a war is underway and his life may be in danger. Nick doesn't know anything about the paranormal world leaving him to wonder who is telling the truth? Nick's growing relationship with Jared comes in question as the fight arrives at his door.
This was a fast moving story with compelling characters who took on a life of their own. The struggle has just begun leaving the reader to wonder what will happen next.
I realize a reader has to suspend belief to enjoy a Shifter story. After all the main characters usually turn into a werewolf or a werecat and such, and I really liked the idea that these shifters could shift into many forms. My problem was I couldn't suspend belief enough... to get to a bicycle, vase, and pencil.
The overall story was enjoyable and I will probably read the next installment but I kept getting knocked back to reality with the whole Mech shifting.
This book takes Noah Harris's normal brand of paranormal writing out of it's usual hot and steamy realm and into the world of Young Adults...and they are gonna love it! The shape shifter concept is brilliant, the ability to shift into any form gives enormous leeway for plot development which Noah takes full advantage of. The plot is amazing, as is expected, and the complexity doesn't overwhelm the reader. Having to set the scene in the first book of a series can often lead to lengthy explanations and descriptions but Noah doesn't fall into that trap, he sets the background perfectly. The writing is easily some of the best I've read recently, flowing at a perfect pace, making it infinitely readable. Both main characters are loveable college students but the supporting cast are also well rounded and I quickly became invested in the outcome. Nick already has a lot on his mind but fate dictates he should have even more. Jared is a dance student and partner of Nicks friend Abby. Fate has thrown Nick and Jared together and it's up to them to make the friendship work and possibly develop, despite the issues both are facing in their lives. Secrets abound in this book and as they come out there is danger, emotion and acceptance, all very cleverly woven into the story. I personally would have liked to see a bit more heat between the two men, but not too much, since this is book 1 of a new series, so plenty of time. This is a slow burn romance with a lot of hurdles along the way and I couldn't put it down. Even though there is a HFN a few questions are left unanswered at the end, it's almost, but not quite a cliffhanger and because of the complexity and detail I am hoping the wait for book 2 will be quite short! I highly recommend this book. I loved reading it and whether you're a fan of paranormal or not there's something for everyone in here. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I thought that this was a fascinating, different take on the whole shapeshifter mythology. Rather than having only two, or three shapes, these shifters have the ability to shift into pretty much anything that they can imagine.
Nick is a shifter who only found out about his abilities a few months prior to the opening of this story. He wants to explore his abilities, but his parents have suppressed their own powers that they can't really help. So when he goes off to college, a local pack contracts him to help train him. Their price is that they want help to fight in what sound like a series of unrelated, but draining wars.
How disruptive would it be to suddenly find out at 18 that not only are you not human, but that you also have whole groups of humans who hate you for just existing?! Nick's reactions to both his parents and the pack were very believable for a young man thrown into this new, terrifying world.
There were a lot of questions that I had, which weren't answered in this book, but I am excited that this is only planned as the first book in a series that we will be able to explore more fully as the next installments come.
So much to take in all at once. Lied to your whole life, find out your a shifter of many different identities, to find the love of your life and try to stay alive against those trying to destroy your kind in a war you never knew existed. Will Nick succeed in keeping Jared alive and with him forever? That can only be answered by buying this book. I received an ARC for my honest review.
The author of this book lets his imagination fly with this new release. Nick is a shape shifter...which in this book means he can shift into any shape or be nothing. He just hasn't figured it out yet. Jared is a son of a very rich businessman and they meet and are immediately drawn to each other. Michael is the alpha of his clan of shapeshifters and he and his two lieutenants have been following Nick for years as his powers are suppressed by the drug his parents have been feeding he and his sister to keep their powers hidden. They want Nick to join them on their side in a war that is out to destroy the shifters. Nick is torn because Michael is able to help him find his powers, but they don't trust Jared. There is violence, frustration, angst, fear, danger, treachery, lies, supernatural powers, love, has no sexual content...but the story doesn't need it, a love of dancing. well rounded characters, murder, and anything else you want to throw in there. Has a HFN ending as the book preps you for a series. Loved reading this new release and can't wait to read the others. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
The first book in the series and what a start! This book is a little different but a brilliant concept. The characters are captivating and rounded making it easy to follow them. The plot is gripping and pulls you in and won't let you put the book away. All the characters become real on the page Nick, Jared, Michael, Gideon and Isda the all make this book an amazing read. Imagine not knowing who you really are until you are 18 and not fully understand what that means. Then being introduced to this new world by an Alpha and his pack. This is what makes this book such a brilliant read its a unique read that keeps the reader transfixed. I can't recommend this book strongly enough it's a fantastic read. I really enjoyed The Secrets Within by Noah Harris. This is the first book in the Shape Shifter Secrets series by Noah Harris, and it is slightly different from his usual books. Although it has his usual flare for story building and great character development and supporting characters, it is without his usual hot scenes between his main characters. I'm not sure if this series is going to be published as a young adult series or if we will finally get the hot, intense scenes we are used to from Noah Harris in the next book. However, either way, I will be reading it to find out what happens next between the humans and the shapeshifters. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Another great paranormal shifter novel by Noah Harris!! Exciting and fast moving as Nick begins his understanding of his shifter life and his initiation into the pack. Jared who met Nick in college is oblivious to shifters and is the son of the leader of the humans trying to kill shifters. When two members of the pack are caught by the humans and Jared's father tries to catch Nick, Jared joins Nick as they run and Nick explains what is going on. This begins an amazing journey as Jared is kidnapped and his father killed by even more dangerous people and Nick is thrown into experiencing more of his powers as he tries to find Jared!! Great shifter story!!
Holy amazing.. Noah does supernatural so amazing.. I loved this.. This was a whole new world of shifters for me.. the characters are intense.. the writing is superb as always.. I love nick and jared and who they are and who they become and what they go through.. it is wonderful :D I am so glad i got to review it
I have to state up front that I am not a fan of young adult fiction and I would put this read within that category. The beginning of this book did not grab my attention and I didn't feel a strong connection with the main characters but, again, think it's due to age group, where the characters are in life and the life experiences of that age group.
I read it a second time... the first chapter didn't wow me but noticed that by the second chapter, with the addition of some additional characters and plot direction.... it does improve and flows quite well from that point on. It's written decently, the characters are well developed... it's an adventurous read. You meet Nick, a shifter who hasn't led a shifter life... this story relates his journey and speaks well to the journey anyone in that age group might experience..... leaving home for the first time, having the world open up in front of you... new people and new direction..... taking those incoming changes and applying them to life. The author also does a good job of balancing action, a little intrigue and a little romance to keep the interest of the reader moving forward. For the right person... this would be an appealing read. I am used to reading shifter books from Noah Harris and I typically enjoy them.
This book was something completely new for me. I was not expecting Nick to be a shape shifter.
I fell in love with young Nick and Jared from the very beginning of this book.
Nick is a College freshman who has just learned that he is a shape shifter and he has to keep this knowlege hidden from the humans he encounters.
Nick meets Jared, a fellow classmate at college.
I enjoyed watching the young couple start dating and getting to know each other.
But as always happens there is a secret that is being kept. When one of Nick's fellow pack members is taken by the evil humans that are out to harm the shape shifters Nick and Jared find themselves on the run.
This was not your typical Noah Harris shifter book but I absolutely fell in love with this book and can not wait for Noah Harris to write the next book in this series.
I enjoyed this book from Noah more than any other shifter he has written. It was a very well written storyline with all the elements I love reading in a shifter book. Noah's characters always give me a satisfying reaction when I read his work. They are so imaginative and unique that it's obvious the author's talent and hard commitment to write from his heart is evident through each book. I loved Nick he was a college student who knew he was a shapeshifter. His parents kept that secret from him and his sister and gave them pills to weaken their effects from shape shifting. He was a strong, loyal force when he cared for someone. Jared was new and a dancer with Nick's best friends sister. They were attracted to each other immediately and started to hang out. I absolutely loved the shifter pack characters, they brought the storyline to an interesting and unique twist. This book is my most favorite shifter from Noah, and I can't wait to see what is next for Nick and Jared!
Noah Harris at his best yet again Nicholas Anton is a shifter whose parents are living as humans. He takes a drug called Nydor to counteract his shifter abilities but now he is an adult he is struggling with the dosage. When he goes to college to study for a business degree, he is told by a group of students in the college that he is in danger. But who are the good guys here? There is Jared, who he really likes but is human and whose father is extremely wealthy and owns a global Fortune 500 company. Then there is Michael, Gideon and the rest of their pack who are trying to train him to use his powers but are they for good or evil? This is an excellent story with lots of twists and turns in the plot to keep you fascinated.
Wow I loved this book and couldn't put it down. Nick and Jared are great together. I can't wait for the next book. A HFN but questions still needing to be answered to what happens next. A love action drama shifter has it all. Loved the shifter storyline and the ending of this.. Nick had learned he was a shape shifter when he'd turned 18 from his parents. Now entering collage he looked forward to things ahead. A party with his freinds he sees Jared a freshman dance student. Alpha Micheal had watched Nick from afar with his pack.. a secret war with others may put Nick in danger..life was about to get intresting for him, is an understatement. Highly recommend.
I love concept of this book it was just brilliant. The characters are great not just the two main characters I like Abby Nick friend and Jared dance partner. Fate brought them together but it's up to the boy to make there friendship to work. This book makes you think on who can you really trust. The plot is great your books get better and better. They both have issues they have to deal with and face head on. Can't wait for book two

Yes!!! Noah Harris has done it again. A whole new take on shifters and I have to say I love it. The shifter society he created is exciting and new. Nick and Jared are more alike than they realize. Both learning things about themselves and their world that they didn't know. The drama and suspense were perfect. The sweetness to their relationship was a perfect balance. I can't wait to see what happens next. This is a perfect example of why Noah Harris is an instant one click for me.
Noah Harris strikes again. I love shifter books and this one is spectacular! Very well written, developed, and interesting storyline that kept me hooked all the way through. Nick and Jared are wonderful characters and I love watching their relationship grow. The secondary characters are also great. Can't wait for the next one! Nick and Jared are great characters and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. I looking forward to the next book in this amazing series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
MM. HFN paranormal romance. A different take on shifters. Nick's parents do not tell him of his heritage until he finishes high school but that is all they tell him. There is so much more going on in the shifter world and Nick ends up in the middle of it. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I didn't like this book. I never thought I would be let down by Noah Harris but I was. The transition from Nick's POV and the pack's POV could have been smoother. The relationship between Nick and Jared was okay. Nothing about their chemistry made me care about them.
