When he's not writing about Africa or dragons Marc can be found travelling to remote locations. He thinks there's nothing better than standing on a mountaintop wondering what lies over the next horizon.
This one arrived in my inbox as a pre-order I'd forgotten about, so that was a nice surprise. Finally, at last, we have the concluding volume (along with a rather charming epilogue) of the epic EPIC fantasy tale of Hualiama and Grandion's love affair, along with world-shaking (literally) changing the course of history in the Cloud-islands world. Honestly, I felt that things got just a wee bit out of control, over the top at times. Jaw-dropping awesomeness can only happen so many times before one's jaw dislocates. Criticism out of the way, this has to be one of the most amazing step-it-up-a-notch-or-five concluding volumes to a series that I've ever read. The potential awkwardness of a cross-species love affair between Lia (originally human) and Grandion (the uniquely impressive, and attractive tourmaline dragon) is entirely satisfactorily resolved, although of course I dare not tell you how. It is a thumping, thundering final book on a cosmic scale. A wonderfully imagined world, deeply explored; a fantastic variety of creatures (especially, of dragonkind!); a tapestry of individual tales and encounters; intrigue, drama, romance and suspense; action, adventure and war, the Dragonfriend series has absolutely everything you could ask for.
I have never in my life wanted to finish a series sooo badly. Having invested considerable time in the first two books, which had a reasonably interesting storyline and characters (if you ignore most of the singing, dancing, philosophising and pseudo-physics) I decided to wade on into book three, most of which I skimmed through as the purple prose was now beginning to take over and all but the main two characters were,by now, little more than charicatures. Somehow I finished it and realised (to my horror) that I was going to have to find out how the story would be resolved. Now I know. In brief paragraphs, in between endless pages of of incomprehensible piffle (I was thankfully able to skip over most of it as I was used to the pattern by now) the heroine achieves god-like powers and while simultaneously fighting millions of "invincible" enemies, surviving the collapse of mountains and a trip to the centre of the earth, solving endless theories in quantum mechanics in her head (in seconds), having a few chats with her armies and a couple of friends and summoning vast interstellar allies then saves the world. The end. Well, I finally finished it! And I can say with complete confidence that I will never read anything by Marc Secchia ever again!
Very unusual shapeshifter dragon story excellent ending to the series
This finale in the Dragonfriend series is a rollicking adventure. The twists in the plot keep one reading long past bedtime. It's a lengthy explanation which keeps you guessing and compelled to stay to the end to see how it turns out. Well written and quite worth the money and effort to finish.
What a epic ending to a truely amazing series. I did not think the ending could beat the other three but it did. With flourishes aplenty the writer expanded on his world building and tale telling. I totally enjoyed this series, I know have another favourite author. Highly recommend.
YEEEEESSSSS!!!!!! Finally Grandion and hualiama get to be together THIS IS THE MOMENT WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR... but hualiama IS PREGNANT and flicker... WHO KNOWS WHAT TO DO WITH THE DIRTY LITTLE DRAGONET??? I mean, He is off siring kids MIND YOU HE IS A DRAGONET with other dragonets. HE IS FILTHY!!!!
I fell in love with the books from the Dragons of Pern series many years ago. I read the first book of Dragonfirend a couple of years ago and fell in love again. I just recently found the other books on Kindle Unlimited and had to read the second, third and this the fourth book.
Dragonstar was even better than the last book with how the pacing of the story went. Just like Marc's other books this one expanded on the personalities of the characters while providing both humor and action.
Great job, thanks, have enjoyed the laughter and the suspense and the intrigue. Linda
Great job on presenting intrigue, suspense and laughter all caught in the same book. Was very rewarding reading. Am recommending this series to the Jr hi and high sch. students. I teach.
Lia part Human par Dragon and part Star is destined to help the world overcome the great differences between the kingdoms and Numistar the fierce enemy came to earth to destroy everything and everyone that got in her way.
A complex grand tale bogged down with too much repetition and rattling physics problems compounded with seemingly insurmountable obstacles breezily dismissed with dance. Still enjoyable.
The world created here is so complete, the experience so immersive. I truly felt transported. The flowery language was a delight, the emotions evoked powerful to the point of tears, and the plot an epic journey. I loved this series!
Marc Secchia's prose is a cross between lyric poetry and literary Impressionism. You may not remember all the details of the plot (they are numerous), but you will come away with a feeling of grandeur, and the desire to read more.
I loved every other book in this series but the last one was just tedious to get through. The overall plot was good but the overly detailed scientific explanations of all the magic and geology bogged down the enjoyment.
Loved your story line and your characters. Even though I had only one son out of seven, I had sixteen grandsons. Talk about preening! I like series and usually give my review at the end of the series. Your imagination is awesome. Well written and entertaining.
Must read this series if you love dragons, humor, war, mental health issues, romance, magic and epic battle, read this series. I did not want it to end.
