I'm a USA Today bestselling author of sweet romance, but I'll read anything if it's good. I live in Minnesota with my husband, Steve, who is a travel agent, and three naughty puddy-tats, Chip, Dale & Babygirl. I love to travel and have been to places like Central America, Europe and the Middle East, but at the end of the day, there is no place like home and my own bed--even if I do have to share it with my cats.
Jenny and Luke are two people dealing with devastating loss when they're brought together by the wedding of her sister to his best friend. Sparks fly, but Jenny's still reeling after her husband's death and Luke is dealing with a bitter teenage son and a meddling pal who holds a lot of animosity toward Jenny. While I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of the story, the author rushed through the established conflicts, only to add a new wrinkle toward the end that was too cliched, which dimmed my enthusiasm. Had Ms. Devine chosen to more fully explore Jenny's PTSD, her plans for the future, and Luke and Liam's unresolved issues about Mara's death (all of these conflicts were resolved too fast and too soon), the story would have been meatier in the middle, eliminating the need to tack on that last twist scene at the wedding that fell so flat. Because of that last twist, I lost the respect I'd gained for Jenny and Luke - who both gave up too easily, and the ending of the story left loose ends that were twirled together but never fully tied. A nice read that could have been so much more.
A very short story. Billed as ‘a romantic comedy’ but I didn’t find anything humorous in this short story at all so I don’t know where that comes from.
The storyline needs to be built in to a larger novel as only 90 pages doesn’t do any of the characters justice.
I loved Encore Bride!! It is a touching story about two people, that have lost their spouse. Jenny & Luke have gone through an emotional time mourning. Heather, Jenny's sister is trying to set her up with Luke, the best man in her wedding. Jenny & Luke are not ready to date. But, there was an instant attraction between them. When Jenny fled the engagement party, Luke followed, to check on her. Will Jenny & Luke be able to open their heart, for an "encore at love"? I really enjoyed reading this story!! A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!
I loved the book, the characters, the writing, and the editing. What I didn't love was the last few pages of the book. The author kept my interest almost to the last but didn't seem to know how to wrap things up and therefore the ending felt rushed and flat. Still a good book but I'm wondering if about 10 more pages would have completed the story better.
I loved this story of two wounded souls who lost their spouses, and still have so many years ahead of them. Thinking they can never fall in love again, a meddling sister, a self-centered brother in law and a tennage boy mixed in surely causes roadblocks. An enjoyable story of second chances. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This is the 3rd book I read by Denise Devine. I liked this book's storyline. This book's storyline was sad 😞. I liked Jenny's character. I felt sorry for Jenny. I liked Luke's character. I liked all the dogs 🐕 in this story. I liked the ending.
Two people who have loved and lost are thrown together in circumstances that they would like to avoid. Since it is a wedding they can't get out of. Somehow, love grows.
