Even though Persephone lived a simple life, she cherished every moments. Working in a flower shop brought her happiness seeing life flourished all around her. What she never knew that her life had been a complete lie until a mysterious stranger showed her what's waiting at the other side of the world.
As the Lord of the Underworld, Hades was fated to have Persephone as his bride. But her father Zeus hid her for centuries to protect her from the darkness. Now, it was time for Hades to finally claim what rightfully his no matter what the consequences.
Before I started reading fiction for leisure, I used to read a lot of Greek mythology to escape into a different world. This book is like going back to my roots haha!
Hades fought against the urge to comfort her. There were places inside him, places frozen for centuries that this tiny creature could melt if he allowed her to get too close.
Hades was charming in his own way. Even though he had all the power at his disposal, he didn't abuse it unnecessarily. And he had a playroom, so he got extra points from me lol!
She felt so torn because she wanted to be free of this place. But the man? The god? Never. She never wanted to be free of Hades.
By a fault not of her own, Persephone was clueless of who she really was. I like seeing her cope with being in the Underworld and her first time experiencing a lot of things she would never imagined.
I like how the author interpreted the story of Hades and Persephone especially the kinky side of the Underworld. I wouldn't mind being down there at all lol!
The temptation was too dark, too delicious. He could drag her deeper down into his hedonistic world with only the promises of the pleasures she wanted to know.
However, the book was too light for my liking considering Hades' position. I was hoping for something more sinister especially towards the end of the story. There was a promise of darkness, but it wasn't delivered effectively. Also, even though I like both characters I felt mostly detached.
"I would be happy to accommodate any desires you develop here. Just remember, Sunshine, there is no shame in the underworld. Only pleasure.”
Persephone is a tale of woman awakening her desires. It would appeal to readers who are interested in mythology retelling.

Won this Kindle book from a Goodreads giveaway and boy do I feel terrible about this. It isn't you, book, it is definitely me. Reading (the blurb) is fundamental, but... I'm ashamed to say I really must not have. Because I was expecting a different sort of book, along the lines of the book I just recently read (Ophelia by Lisa Klein). And this book... wasn't that. I don't even feel comfortable reviewing the book because I don't think I'm the target audience to give it a fair shake but I have to give it a rating because I won the book.
It just wasn't my thing - Persephone/Hades erotica and no Demeter story at all. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and I read plenty of bodice ripping romance but I just wasn't in the right headspace or something for this endeavor. I keep going back and forth between a two and a three. I think that there are plenty of readers out there that would enjoy this book, but I just couldn't get into it. And I really think that is on me so...

Persephone is a gentle and kind woman who works at a flower shop and enjoys her limited but cheery existence until a mysterious and broody man suddenly abducts her. Insistent she belongs to him, Persephone panics and believes he is insane but once he demands she take a leap of faith, all she knows irrevocably changes.
“I told you I’m a god. My will is always obeyed. Something you will learn very soon.”
As the king of underworld, Hades’ endless search for Persephone is finally over and he’s ready to claim her as his queen despite Zeus’ efforts to hide and maintain her purity. With swift action, Hades takes Persephone to his world where he intends to acclimate her in dark and delicious ways.
“What do you want?” Her heart still fluttered wildly in her chest.”
“Your innocence, of course,” he said.”
Upon being immersed in darkness illuminated only by moonlight, Persephone doesn’t understand what is happening as she begins to crave the all the sexual pleasures Hades offers. However, while Persephone experiences such bliss, she is completely devastated when Hades leaves her side which alters her own sense of balance. Unfortunately, for Persephone she doesn’t understand her role or the ongoing battle between Hades and Zeus. Protecting his destiny, Hades isn’t about to cower to Zeus’ demands which leads to Hades taking measures that will alter his own soul and possibly ruin the love Persephone feels for him.
“I don’t require your approval or your love. I just want you to scream pretty for me again.”
In this interpretation of Greek mythology, Kitty Thomas certainly delivers a story weaved with carnal desires. Hades is the Master of his domain and his seduction of Persephone is without bounds, as all pleasures of the body are indulged. Suffice it to say, that those in the Underworld know how to host a proper party!
“I can feel the warmth of her cunt through the leather. She’s hungry.”
“Good,” Hades said. Then he turned his words to Persephone. “Tell me you’re my good little whore.”
In addition to the steamy moments, reading about Hades’ centuries old search for Persephone was endearing and it was intriguing to see how far Hades would fight and at what cost. For Hades, the inner struggle between love and fate is ever present. Persephone provided a balance to Hades but at times her own struggle began to weigh down her point of view for me. Ultimately, I craved every part of Hades with his dominance, sarcasm and sex appeal, but a darker and more in depth storyline would have propelled it for me.
Persephone would appeal to those who are seeking some fantasy in their stimulating reads, as this book offers a good balance of love and compromise.

Going into this book, I know that there are two things that I love: Kitty Thomas' works and Persephone x Hades pairing. This book started out okay but it just fell flat somewhere along the way. It's so disappointing because I expected something much better.
I felt like Persephone is bastardized, somehow. Thomas' interpretation of Persephone isn't my Persephone. She's only a shell of her. My Persephone is a badass queen of the underworld. I'd like to think that she keeps Hades on his toes. And she would have never let Hades treat her as horrible as he did in this book.
-Spoilers Ahead-
I guess I understand Thomas' reasoning to make her a weakling. Her powers were stripped by Zeus. She's lived her life as a timid, lowkey woman for centuries. I get it. However her continuing to forgive Hades as the story progressed pissed me off. I wanted to DNF this book but changed my mind in hope that she would gain more backbone but alas, it never happened.
Even when she regained her powers, she immediately forgive Hades, which was a complete joke to me. By then this book has completely lost me.
As for Hades, as per other Thomas' book, he's a complete cray cray. I wasn't a fan of him as well.

Wow! I really liked this book. A new spin on an old tale.
I loved how Persephone developed. From her sweet innocent young self, to a confident woman.

Somewhere around 2 stars for me
Let me start by saying this:
*I love a fairy tale/mythology retelling
*I love dark romance
*Even more so, I love a dark/erotic fairy tale/mythology retelling
Given the factors above, this didn't work for me. It was straight up, a fairly basic telling of the story of Hades/Persephone (the actual god/goddess - not a take on or interpretation of their story) set in the present with lots of illicit scenes.

Well, it was pretty much just a fuckfest in the Underworld. Hades and Persephone in this version, you can say, have an open relationship where they can sleep with anyone.
On one hand, it was different. On another, it just made me lost my interest just as fast.
Then, Hades turned into Hulk Hades and well, that part I kinda like. However, generally, it just not as interesting as I wished.

Loved this take on an old classic.
As you would expect, Hades hunts the ends of the earth down for his girl, but when he finds her, not all is as he expects. Persephone has no idea she's a Goddess, for a start. This, of course, allows Hades to have his wicked way with her and he tricks her into an eternity in the underworld with him.
Or does he?
Is Hades redeemable? Is there an ounce of compassion in that blackened soul. Time will tell...

Something to look forward to in hell!
This is a genius retelling of the classic Greek myth that will leave you wondering why the hell didn't anyone think to 86 Demeter from the story line before in all of the many retellings out there?! God, that woman really was annoying, always marginalized Persephone's character, and took away from the overall sexiness of the story in every other version I've ever read. Demeter also always took the blame for Zeus's actions, reducing his role to patsy in almost all versions out there. But I digress. The important points are this book is seriously smokin' hot, the writing fluid and beautiful (as always wth Kitty Thomas books), and this is the only version of Persephone & Hades that anyone should read.
I wish Melos would get his own story. And I do hope the sex parties in hell are as good as they are written here! It really gave me something to look forward to.

I was very disappointed with this book.
I'm a fan of Kitty and her work but this book is not up to her usual work.
I felt like reading a book written by a teenage, without depth and with several silly remarks.
The characters are by no means endearing, nor even
impressive, just stupidly malicious with bad temper for him and whimpering for her.
K. T. has accustomed us to calculating characters, profound, sometimes disoriented but logical ...
Their is always an explanation or a reason for them to act the way they do...
None of this here.
I *usually* can't put one of her book down. I now stop ready for any excuse, even to start the washing machine!!! LOL
Disappointed but still, not a DNF... yet.

It started off good but fizzled out half way through. Persephone adapted to Hades and to having multiple sexual partners very quickly. Persephone was too weak even though there was a reason for that. Nothing about her seemed like the queen of the underworld. She was too understanding and forgiving of Hades poor behavior. Hades wasn't what I was expecting either. I thought the king of the underworld would have been more in many ways. The ending was completely lackluster.

Thank you, Kitty Thomas, for writing a depraved Hades. This might just be the smuttiest Hades/Persephone story I've read so far. BDSM, dark romance, and lots and lots of sharing. PWP, so the smut is banging but the story is just ok.

I looove me some Greek mythology and this couple's story is my absolute favorite.
I was HOOKED from the start and after that it was just disastrously horrible.
Anyway, thank you for keeping Demeter out of the equation but the moment the story took a deep dive in all them ropes and shit and sharing is caring...

I thoroughly enjoy Kitty's work. When I read the blurb for this book I was enamored. Persephone and Hades was one of my favorites growing up. Yes, even as a young girl I dreamed of being swept away by a dark, delicious, dangerous, possessive man. Though I think having such high hopes may have hindered my ability to be unbiased where this story is concerned.
I liked the differences in Kitty's story and the mythology. And yet... I mean, the story had me enthralled but I wanted MORE! I know, how gluttonous but the story ended too soon for me. It felt rushed at the end and it was a bit disappointing.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely! Though be aware it's quickly wrapped up at the end.

This book is better suited for kindle unlimited than $4.95. It was definitely not worth the cost. It was short and had a rushed resolution. The writing style was poor and rudimentary. No character development and lacking chemistry between the H and h. The love story between Persephone and Hades is timeless, lengendary even, but in this book it falls flat. Mythology has basically given you palpable tension and hot steamy angst on a silver platter but this author was completely oblivious. I also didn't care for the H sharing the h with his entire kingdom. Even that's your thing it still wasn't written well enough to waste your time and money.

This is a paranorman erotic story based on the classic myth of Persephone.
On the positive side, the original perception of the myth. The book started really nicely and kept my interest. The heroine was nice. The first intimate scenes were full of tension and passion.
On the negative side, after the first half of the book, the plot wasn't important anymore and everything was about sex. I hate to admit it but it became boring and without purpose. The point of the story felt lost to me.

My introduction to Kitty Thomas new book was without a title, cover or blurb but I was told it had magic. Magic like a PNR or Urban Fantasy? Neither. Neither? How is that possible? Then I got the book and my jaw dropped. The title explained that magic to me. Persephone. Oh my gosh! Ms. Thomas has dipped into Greek mythology. This isn’t magic, this is the world of gods! Persephone was the goddess queen of the underworld, wife of the god Hades. I knew all this going in and couldn’t wait to see what kind of spin Ms. Thomas would come up with.

This is my second time with Persephone. I read it when it came out in ebook and print back in 2017. I was excited to get back into Persephone’s world, now available on audio.
So, this story is a BDSM retelling of Hades and Persephone’s story. It starts out with Persephone working at a flower shop in New York City. That is until Hades finally finds her, kidnaps her and takes her to the Underworld.
Persephone doesn’t realize she’s a goddess with her powers stripped from her. Her father Zeus, also took away any sexual desire that she had. Hades works to bring back her desire. But how can a goddess of spring and growing things live in a world of the dead?
Narration:
This is my first time listening to Gregory Salinas. I thought he did a really great job with the voice of Hades. His voice of Persephone was done really well as well. I have to say I enjoyed this story better the second time around and I can’t help but think that the narration has something to do with that.

Narration:
This is my first time listening to Gregory Salinas. I thought he did a really great job with the voice of Hades. His voice of Persephone was done really well as well. I have to say I enjoyed this story better the second time around and I can’t help but think that the narration has something to do with that.

Damn...
This is not for the faint of heart and at the same time is weirdly sweet and possibly romantic in a dominating alpha kind of way. Basically it’s a BDSM Persephone myth. Which honestly is kind of how I pictured it from mythology.

I honestly don’t even feel like I was the target audience for this book—and that’s okay. I pushed through and finished it, but this one just wasn’t for me at all.
I went in so excited, because a creative retelling of Persephone and Hades sounded amazing. I even appreciated the author’s note at the beginning, explaining that this story would take its own path away from the traditional myth. I was totally ready for that, and honestly, the first chapter had me hooked. It felt dark, intriguing, and full of potential.
But after that? It fell completely flat for me. The direction it took and the type of “spice” featured just didn’t work with my tastes, and I found myself struggling to connect or enjoy where the story went. I know that some readers love Kitty Thomas’s style, but it’s very clearly not mine.
I don’t want to knock the book entirely, because I can see how it might land for a different audience. But for me, it was a huge disappointment. I came in excited for a fresh, dark myth retelling—and ended up finishing it just to say I did.

I can’t recommend this, as well as her other stories enough! Kitty is the Queen that will make you crave the Darkness.
