A Night of Southern Comfort was the first book in the Boys are Back In Town Series by Robin Covington and I really enjoyed it. This is my first taste of Robin Covington and I really liked her writing style. Jack our hero was very very sexy. He had so much southern charm. He was a ex marine and a detective so double yummy. Military Men, Cops, and firefighters are a total weakness of mine so Jack was right up my alley. He was sweet and protective and I just loved him. Michaela was great too. She was sassy, and smart. I loved that she was confident and went after what she wanted in life. She had no problem telling people what she really thought. Jack and Michaela were cute together and had tons of passion. For a shorter book it was packed full of romance and had a pretty good relationship build up. I could have used a little more individual character development because I felt like I only scratched the surface of Jack and Michaela but the book was only 151 pages. Overall a great quick read!

A Night of Southern Comfort is book one in The Boys Are Back in Town series by Robin Covington. I have had this paperback on my shelf for-EVER! I vowed this year to read more of my physical books and this was my first pick and holy-moly! This book was amazing! So steamy, so sweet, and so darn suspenseful! I loved every single page!
Michaela (Dr. Mike) (Kayla) Cantrell yearns for nothing more than a life of her own out from under the thumb of her father, the former governor and soon to be senatorial candidate of Virginia. She has set up a private practice as a pediatrician in a small town and is ready to live that dream. She’s on the cusp of her dream when she’s in a bar and sees him. A man she can’t take her eyes off of. The electricity is zipping all the way across the distance between them. They have one night, no names, just passion and pleasure. A night that neither of them will ever forget. Especially when they once again come face to face back in her father’s office under much different circumstances.
Jackson (Jack) Cantrell is a former FBI undercover agent, now working undercover for the Roanoke police department. All he wants is to regain his self respect and get his job back at the FBI. When he is called in to the Governor’s office, he can’t believe who is standing there. The woman he hasn’t been able to forget. His one night stand. It seems the governor’s daughter has a stalker and he wants someone to protect her and find out who it is. And the governor knows just how to get him to do his bidding. He knows exactly what carrot to dangle over Jack’s head.
Jack and Kayla together are like fire! They burn up the pages. But Kayla is also a sweet, compassionate woman who cares deeply for her patients. The more they are together, the stronger the attraction between them becomes. But now Jack is keeping a secret from her. She doesn’t know that Jack is working for her father. And, no matter how deeply she falls for him, once she finds out, it will all be over. As the danger escalates, so does their bond. No matter what happens, though, Jack knows that this will only end one way, with him walking away.
This book was so good. I could NOT put it down. I loved everything about it. I adored both Kayla and Jack. I can’t believe I left his on my shelf for so long. I have already spent some time looking through Robin’s other work. I have a huge weakness for MM romance and see she has one that looks amazing called His Convenient Husband. I think that will be my next book of hers and I can’t wait. There are also three more books in this series. The next is Jack’s friend Lucky’s book in His Southern Temptation. I need to read that one as well!

I’ll curb my thirst with - “A Night of Southern Comfort” Jackson Cantrell style - over that other “stuff” any old day! With this debut, Robin Covington hooks readers immediately with a genuine scorcher wrapped in what I would call a near-perfect cover. From the first page through the last page, the romance and suspense in this novel was captivating and intriguing. It is well crafted with characters that you’ll find no problem connecting with. The action is well-paced and the happily ever after is more than satisfying.
When “Gwyneth” walked out the door the morning after a one-night stand with “James,” neither expected to see the other again. But when both of them are summoned to the home of Governor Eastland -- one in the line of duty and the other as his daughter -- Detective Jackson Cantrell a/k/a “James” and Dr. Michaela Roarke a/k/a “Gwyneth” discover that “daddy” has some expectations of his own. Unbeknownst to Michaela, danger is following her. Even though she wants no part of her father’s plan, Jack is assigned the job of keeping her safe – and the Governor has upped the stakes with a secret deal that is almost impossible for Jack to turn his back on.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced romance with not only smoldering chemistry but believable and realistic as well between H/H, look no further. This one has all the elements with a perfect blend of suspense, too. Jackson Cantrell is just too scrumptious to even describe. Definitely a 12 on the 1-10 scale! And Kayla is no slouch either and very admirable. The small town of Elliott and its citizens (Jack’s family included) also make a grand group of secondary cast. One of those secondary characters is Jack’s cousin, Luke. This reader hopes Luke’s story will follow soon.

h/H have a one night stand where they exchange fake names it is something the heroine wants, the start of her new life. It suits the hero as well since he is the loner type doing undercover work. When they meet again it is under different circumstances, she is back at her father's house, the Governor who is a major dick and finds out the hero is a detective. He is actually former FBI whose last mission made him resign and will do anything to get his old job back, even agree to keep an eye on her, for her father. The heroine has worked hard to get away from her father and has bought a practice in the hero's home-town. She has spent a lifetime being thrown over by men for her father and what his power can bring, so she doesn't believe she has a stalker instead she believes it is another attempt by her father to bring her back.
The hero agrees to keep an eye on her, on his terms, the Governor can get him his old job back. He tries to keep things between them platonic but can't. Honestly, I liked the book but didn't love it. Jackson was an okay hero though I did like his other friends a lot. I didn't get why he was the loner type since he came from a loving family but he kind of never fit in. I found that Kayla(his name for her) forgave him too quickly in the end and that didn't ring true for me. Also I found the story to be more about the sex and somehow the emotions got a bit diluted for me. The mystery part was quite simplistic.
Still a good attempt and I will try other books by this author.

I never gush about a book unless I really, really love it.
And boy, did I love this book!
I'm staggered that it's Robin Covington's debut novel...talking about setting the bar high!
In Kayla and Jack she has created two wonderful characters, well-matched in their independence and hidden vulnerabilities.
And the sexual tension between them? Sizzles off every page.
With wickedly hot sex and sparkling dialogue, this book was a winner.
I hated putting it down and can't wait for the follow ups with Teague, Lucky and Beck's stories.
More please!

What the hell were you supposed to do when your fantasy showed up in your reality?
From the beginning, I was hooked on this could-not-put-it-down book! With a GORGEOUS cover that gives us a clear picture of the 2 main characters in this story! Kayla & Jackson
Entagled Publishing has done it again.. they have taken yet another amazing author on board!!
The story starts off with a sizzling hot one-night-stand.. And then the real suspence begins to suck us in.. this story has it all, a lot of sizzling hot sex, romance, friendship, suspence, danger, suspicion, sadness, and not to forget a SMOKING HOT SEXY MAN.
A true rollercoaster book of emotions! :)
When I read I like to lose myself into the story, finding that i'm in the story instead of just reading it. And this story sucked me in from the beginning :)

Sizzling hot! The chemistry between Jackson and Michaela leaps off the page right from the start and it never wanes. I was invested in these two right from the word go, and the fast-paced story didn't disappoint. Sexy with a dangerous edge, and a wonderful, quick read.

This book starts off blazing hot, and doesn’t cool down until you read the last page. Ms. Covington does an invigorating job describing these characters in a way that makes them come to life. You do more than just read about their conflicts, it feels as though you are experiencing their emotions as well.
Michaela is the daughter of a governor. He is a single father and his children have been nothing more than props for him in gaining the sympathy vote. He doesn’t really care for her or her brother. He just demands that nothing they do cause any negative publicity to shine on him. When Michaela attracts the attention of a stalker her father intervenes only because he needs this issue to go away quietly.
Jackson is an undercover detective. After his last FBI mission got botched he was allowed to resign or get fired. The governor hires Jackson to find out who is behind this mess with his daughter. If he does not agree he will be fired from his cop job, and if he agrees and succeeds, he will be given his FBI dream-job back.
One steamy night, just prior to this stalker issue Michaela and Jackson shared an electrifying one night stand in a hotel room. They shared no personal information with each other, only bodies and sizzling passion. Imagine their surprise when their paths cross again. They both agree to let the past lie in the past, but as they continue to spend more and more time together their bodies don’t agree with that plan.
Jackson has his own demons to work through in this book. He has a career oriented life goal and is not about to let a woman get in the way. Michaela has tried to live her own independent life away from her father, but he always seems to worm his way into every relationship she has ever had. It seems as though this couple is doomed from the start. I really loved the plot of this story. The journey and obstacles that these two face were believable and understandable.
You really get the whole package with this one. It’s packed with adventure and action. We get hot sex and sweaty sheets. Complete with a crazy stalker and small town gossip. If you’re looking for a book that is edgy and keeps you pulled in from the beginning to the end, you won’t want to miss out on this one.

I saw this book by way of author Laura Kaye's book review. I checked it out. Normally, I do not like covers with faces. I like to imagine what the characters look like based on the author's descriptions. But the intensity on the faces immediately caught my attention and it accurately portrays what's inside the cover (or in this case between Kindle swipes). Dr. Michaela "Kayla" Roarke and Detective Jackson Cantrell begin an incendiary relationship that starts off with a one night stand. Of course, fate brings them together as Kayla has a stalker who has taken compromising pictures of Kayla and is trying to blackmail Kayla's father, the Governor. Jackson is brought in to track down the stalker and protect Kayla. Kayla is the “perfect photo-op” daughter bullied by an overbearing father. She is trying to escape his manipulating ways. Jackson is recovering from a trauma where while undercover his partner and lover are killed. Overcoming their reticence, Kayla and Jackson fall into a hot relationship.
This books tips more towards the romance then the suspense, but still there is a tight little mystery going on here. Still, the romance is front and center. The bedroom scenes are intimately written guaranteed to raise the reader’s temperature a few hot, sweaty degrees.
My one small critique is that there are many side characters that I would have loved to learn more about - Teague Elliott and “the Boys” (do I see a series here in the making?). Theresa and Vergie do not get enough screen time. As we have seen from other books, Southern women can add layers of color to a story.
This is an enjoyable read. The story flows and reads fast. It is difficult to believe this is Robin Covington’s debut novel. My only warning when reading this on an e-reader, be mindful of who is sitting next to you on the plane, train, or automobile. They may be trying to read this hot little number over your shoulder.

Robin Covington's debut novel sizzles with sexual chemistry! From their first scorching moment together, Jackson and Michaela/Kayla are hot for one another, and Robin makes you believe this immediate attraction. Throw in a forced proximity situation, imminent danger, a man trying to prove himself over a prior tragedy, and a woman fighting for an independent life away from a powerful, manipulative father, and you have so much conflict and drama you'll fly through the pages! At least I sure did! Really loved this one and definitely recommend! And can't wait for the other guys to get their stories!

This was a really nice surprise. This is a new author for me and I loved her writing style. The Hero was dreamy and the heroine didn't get on my last nerve (although I really wish she wasn't sooooo perfect - she's a doctor and she looks like Gweynth Paltrow!?!) Detective Jackson Cantrell is charged with the responsibility of protecting Dr Michaela Roarke from a stalker. Romantic suspense which gets into it right from the get-go! Not "over the top" in any one area, ie suspense, drama, characters - just a nice read with some really good sex scenes. 3 1/2 solid stars.

I don't read very much hetero romance. It's not a slam against the genre, it's just that I'm gay and write m/m romance, so I tend to stick to my area of expertise, shall we say?
But this book may have changed all that.
I'm a sucker for a good suspense thriller, and Robin Covington dishes one helluva good one up here in her first book. It didn't hurt that the characters drew me in, fragile Michaela with a spine of steel, and hot, hunky, withdrawn Jackson. They meet for a steamy, sexy one night ... and then things get even hotter! I could feel their connection slink right off the page.
The characters drew me in, the story kept me hooked, and I finally got to the point where I couldn't just read a dozen pages a night, I had to see how the book ended. So I made an appointment with myself and sat down and finished it one afternoon, completely satisfied with the ending.
I hear word of a sequel that delves into a story featuring Jackson's best friend Lucky, and I'm already in line waiting to download that book. But do yourself a favor and get this one now, you owe it to yourself.

WOW what a great book. I love when I get immersed into the book and feel the characters in the first chapter. I loved Detective Jackson Cantrell (Jack) and Dr. Michaela Roarke (everyone calls he Dr Mike). When the book started I have to say the main reason I liked it was Michaela, she was the aggressor and pursued Jack. All is hot and steamy and then he wakes up and she is gone. A few weeks later the story gets woven into a political intrigue and a scandal. Someone takes pictures of Michaela with Jackson, nobody knows it is him all they show is he face. He realized in a few seconds that she was his one nighter and now knows her Dad is the Governor.
The stalker is attacking and Jackson moves into Michaela's house to protect her. Now the Gov. tries to blackmail Jack saying you watch her and I will get your old FBI job back. He accepts. Now how does he get through this and how can he tell her?
There are so many suspense filled pages. Just loved the last two reveals. I can see a series here ....hint hint Ms Covington. So impressed and say it is a fab read with steam!!

I loved this book, Kayla and Jack are really easy to connect with and I found myself completely hooked with the story by end of chapter 1.

I was completely hooked into this story from the minute I started reading and I didn't want to put it down until I'd devoured every page. A Night of Southern Comfort is a fantastic debut and has added Robin Covington to my list of must read authors. This author certainly knows how to create scorching chemistry between her characters and this one steamy read right from the very beginning. Michaela and Jackson practically melted my kindle from the moment they met but what I loved most was seeing them develop feelings for each other as they got to know each other better.
Jackson was hot (and oh sooooo sexy *fans self*), caring, protective and absolutely smitten with Michaela from pretty much the moment they met - even if he wouldn't admit it to himself! It was quite funny watching his jealousy when he thought one of his friends was making a move on her. Talking of his friends I absolutely loved all of the boys - Jackson, Lucky, Teague and Beckett - and the banter between them. I really want to read all of their stories and I was incredibly excited to find out that Robin is already writing Lucky's book. Michaela was one of those characters who is extremely easy to like, her life has been made miserable by her good for nothing father but I admired the way she stood up to him. She copes well considering she is being stalked but that mainly because she is convinced it is a trick her father has come up with to get her to come home. She has finally had a taste of freedom though and won't let anything get in her way of continuing to live the life that she wants.
If I have one minor complaint it would be that I'd guessed who the stalker was quite early on. I hoped I'd be proved wrong but in the end I wasn't which was a little disappointing. Having said that I still loved the story - I loved the characters, I loved not knowing what the stalker would do next and I definitely loved every second that Michaela and Jackson spent together. I would happily recommend this to any contemporary romance fan looking for scorching love scenes and a relationship worth believing in. I know I'll automatically be buying whatever story Robin Covington releases next!

Michaela Roarke goes out to celebrate her new life, not expecting anything more than to have a drink or two alone at a bar, but when she see Jackson Cantrell in his tux, her plans change. Although they knew that their anonymous night tonight was just that, one night, they never forgot.
When they meet again, a month later, the sparks are still there, but now Michaela is in danger and the prime suspect is her controlling father. Governor Eastland forces Jackson to watch over his daughter. Despite that, Jackson doesn't want to see any harm come to Michaela anyway, so with the help of Lucky, his cousin and partner at the Roanoke Police Dept., they must figure out who is after Michaela before it's too later.
I have not read a lot of romantic suspense books up to this point, and I really don't know why. A Night of Southern Comfort is a great story. Kayla and Jackson are really great together. I very much enjoyed the romance between them. Even with Jackson trying to convince himself that he needs to stay professional around her, their chemistry cannot be denied.
With Kayla's dating history, she worries that any guy interested in her is only after her father's favors. But with Jackson, things are different. She let's down her guard with him. She feels completely free for the first time in her life. I like her strong willed personality, yet she has her vulnerable moments as well.
Now, although this might seem like a really odd thing to like about the book, I'm going to say it anyway. I liked the fact that Kayla was said to often visit The Southern Comfort diner, in which Jackson's mother was the owner, to have a piece of pie and not once, whenever pie was involved or mentioned, did Robin Covington feel the need to add things like: "I know I shouldn't be eating this..." or "If you eat too much of that it will make you fat." or any other negative comments towards Kayla's enjoyment of her pie! That was kind of nice actually. Of course, I did laugh at Jackson's reaction when he found out that her 'usual' is a sweet tea and a piece of chocolate peanut butter pie.
Apart from the romance aspect of the story, I rather enjoyed the interaction between Jackson and his cousin Lucky. They grew up together, they know each other so well, and Lucky tells Jackson the true whether he wants to hear it or not. Even when Jackson would rather pick a fight with Lucky than listen to him, Lucky is always there when he needs his help.
There was a point at the end of the book where I thought that Robin could have easily ended the story there but she didn't. I'm grateful for that because I loved how she did end it. I look forward to reading more of Robin's work in the future!

HOLY BATMAN AND ROBIN!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know about anyone else but I have to say that Entangled has cornered the market in romance and bad boys. They have had a succession of books that will knock you off your feet and keep you wishing there was more and more of those bad boys to read. In A Night of Southern Comfort Robin has taken on a roller coaster ride where suspense and romance leaves you breathless.
Lord have mercy on me can I just say that Jackson Andrew Cantrell is a man I NEED TO CLONE! *******SWOON WORTHY******* Dr. Michaela Roarke has just hit the jackpot with him. In ANOSC we meet Jack and Kayla at a bar where Jack is playing pool with his buddies when he spots a beautiful lady looking at him. Some advice for readers starting this novel. Keep a glass of something very cold nearby....your going to need it!

I finished this book in one day. From the first chapter to the last, the dialogue is great, the characters are strong and appealing, and the suspense will take you by surprise. I highly recommend this fast paced sizzling story. Hope there is more!

One night, fake names, chemistry so hot it can scald… and then you walk away. It’s even worse when you’re the governors grown daughter and your dad is trying to manipulate your life by controlling everything. That’s what happens to Michaela. And while Jackson Cantrell doesn’t normally do anything he doesn’t want to do, Michaela dad’s has the one thing he badly wants, reinstatement to the FBI. This sets the story for A Night of Southern Comfort.
I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting this to be such a steamy read. I wasn’t familiar with this author’s writing and picked up this book when it was on sale. Because it’s only 150 pages, I wasn’t committing too much if I didn’t like her writing style. Not to worry though. I found this book very readable! Michaela and Jack are hot right from the very first pick up and get hotter along the way. Both characters are very likeable. Throw in their great chemistry, a little jealousy, a couple secrets, and a stalker and you have a great lay by the pool book. While the “who done it” doesn’t offer much suspense, this is still a fun read.
I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another book by author Robin Covington again and am actually looking forward to reading the second book in the series which is Lucky’s HEA. Who can resist a former Black Ops assassin? Not me!

A Night of Southern Comfort is a sexy read. After a hot one-night stand, Kayla and Jackson meet again. This time, he has to protect her against a stalker. Oh, and yes, she's the Governor's daughter.
But this book wasn't just about their sizzling attraction... her relationship with her father made me feel bad for her. When she tells Jackson "Stay away from me. I'm not worth the trouble" my chest tightened.
And Jackson must come to terms with his own demons and ambitions... and must choose at the end.
I don't want to give anything away. Read it. You'll enjoy it!:)

Actually, I give this a 4.5 rating (and the sex scenes at least a 6 because you can feel the heat, smell the sweat but their inclusion is neither contrived nor gratuitous.)
Jack and Michaela are sufficiently believable that if you reached out to touch them their skin would depress beneath your fingertips.
The romance is hot and engaging throughout and the only reason I withheld a .5 so as not to award a full five star rating is because the ending as far as plot is concerned was a little light for my tastes.

This book is the whole package. It’s packed with adventure and action. We get hot sex and sweaty sheets. Complete with a crazy stalker and small town gossip. If you’re looking for a book that is edgy and keeps you pulled in from the beginning to the end, you won’t want to miss out on this one.

This was a pleasant surprise. The story in and of itself doesn't break any new ground as far as contemporary romances go, but I enjoyed her writing style. Kayla could've come off as stuffy and boring but the author made sure to give her a distinctive and sometimes kick ass personality, especially when dealing with her overbearing father. Jack was the average "I don't want a relationship" kind of guy but still managed to pull off the hotness. Good reading all the way around.

I'm glad I came back to read #1 after having read #3 first. The story was interesting, the characters were interesting. I really loved it when he thought he'd been a random guy at the hotel, but she told him that she hadn't gone to the hotel looking for a guy. That when she saw him, she felt like she had to have him. And the epilogue was cute in that it was reminiscent of that initial meeting. On to #2...

Super easy read. Nice and steamy. I'd like to read more about Teague and the other guys....Jack was awesome and I loved him with the guys. Hope to read more from this author.
