I loved the premise and I know I am in the minority when I say, but I love a story about a man whore and him finding love with a good girl. It also does not bother me when the guy is a man whore during the separation as long as I know that his heart ACHES for the heroine. However, Duncan just rubbed me the wrong way. He was a man whore, but he thought too much about sex with other women and how they looked. He was not "I was an a**hole who broke the heroine's heart and I will do everything in my power to get her back". I feel that that Duncan's sister pressured/persuaded him into getting back together with the heroine. He did not think to get back together with the heroine on his own. Duncan did not think to see how she was doing after all those years after he left her. Duncan's sister said that the heroine asked about the hero once a week. Duncan asked about her a few times. I am big on the hero being a huge alpha, wanting his woman back no matter what, and then groveling like crazy. I am not for the hero who has to be talked into wanting the heroine back by his sister. He was no alpha in my opinion.

This did not work for me, but it may work for you. Reading is subjective. Just because I could not connect does not mean you won't connect. You may perceive the characters in a different light.

I really enjoyed the romance between Duncan and Rachel, and I liked the fact that this was a second chance romance. There was lots of heat between them that hadn't fade through the years apart. I really liked that they had history between them before the story started that lead lots of tension between them when they met again. It added a bit of kick to the story because there was a lot of emotions and heat still going on in the story. They were together before he dumped her so callously even if he was doing it for her, thinking it was the best for her. I really liked that this was best friend's hotter older brother but had the twist that they dated when they were young but didn't make love fully yet. It was a nice change from this particular trope.

And even though the story was short, it was satisfying, and I didn't feel like it was too rushed. It was just enough. It helped that they had that basis of a relationship between them with lots of love still between them. I loved their relationship and how it played out. I just think they really fit well together. I totally bought them together and wanted them together.

The sexy times in this story was really good, and just showed off the intensity of their relationship both physically and emotionally. They had this really consuming bond, which was shown in these scenes. And they were just steamy and hot, which never hurts in a romance, but I liked that it was clear that there was love there and it wasn't just about lust. Once they reunited, nothing was going to stop them from being together. They belonged together, and they were each other's one and only.

I thought it was entertaining to see Duncan's sister the one setting them up to set up this little reunion between them. It was even clear to her that they belonged together. It was just funny to watch and added a bit of humor to the story.

There were other elements in the story that added to their obstacles between them. It added more interest to the story and just really upped the stakes in their relationship. It showed how they could overcome and work together to be together. It just interesting and added more to the plot between the creepy producer and the bratty pop star.

Overall it was a good story, and I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the relationship between Duncan and Rachel. They fit together. Even though they went through their ups and downs in their relationship in this book, they came back together stronger than ever. Their story just flowed nicely and had a good pace to it. It was a nice easy read that I was hooked to.

This was a good well written read. The characters knew what they wanted & they went after it. I did not read the reads.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. For me, this book fell a little short. Compared to her last few books that I LOVED, this one seemed a little boring. I just wasn't as hooked as I usually am with her books. That being said, it was still a good read just not the best from her. I was glad that after being apart for 10 years, Duncan and Rachel were able to move past what happened and rekindle their love!

Nope. Hated it. Rachel and Duncan dated in high school. She was a sophomore when he left her, without a word, to join the Navy. He moved on and slept with any woman that'd have him. She stayed a virgin (over 11 years after he left, mind you) because no one could compare to good ol' Duncan. They end up back in touch and he acts like an immature douche and she lets him walk all over her, followed by sex, then sex, then more sex.

God, can authors stop using this overdone setup? Some people like to read stronger female characters that don't stay hung up on absolute jerks that don't deserve it.

Not my cup of tea I just couldn’t wait to get it over with. I don’t like leaving books half way read so every time I read it it just dragged and I knew it wasn’t too my liking. Story line was completely obnoxious and the heroine had absolutely no back bone she gave it up so easily after waiting 10 years... yeah a BIG NO!!! Then he was a self absorbed, arrogant jerk a bigger No!!

2.5 stars. I really wanted to like this story but it just didn't hit the spot for me. The characters were a bit all over the place and there was zero chemistry. The story itself was okay.

Not for me

This was childish and immature. Way too short. This could have been a good story if it had more time and imagination put into it

This is a WINNER! I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily leave my honest review of it here. Rye hart is a fantastic writer that always draws you into a story with her setting, the characters and the way she weaves her story so that you cannot put the book down until you've finished reading it. Then you will want to start again as it is so good. Rachel loved her best friend's brother, Duncan, for years but he only really took notice of her when she was a mature teen. Everything seemed wonderful for her beyond her dreams. But Duncan left. he didn't even say it face to face and merely text-ed her which left her broken hearted and devastated so much that it even impinged on her friendship with Shauna. He joined the Navy and became a SEAL but still no contact from him until he appears where she is working 11 years later. Astonished, hurt, bewildered but still in love with him as he is with her. I loved when he gave her his journal. Duncan is a bit brash but he is hunky, smart, sneaky [but in a good way] and determined that Rachel will be his forever. The love he has for her has not diminished and he will do anything to prove she belongs with him. He really is worth forgiving and giving a second chance to prove his love for her. He's the ideal man that most women want in a loving boyfriend/husband. Whew. Get the fans out, settle yourself in a comfortable chair, ice bucket ready by your drink and indulge yourself by reading this book. I really, really enjoyed this fun, steamy story and think you will too.
p.s. Jeffrey is a brilliant friend and such a fun character to know. Every girl/woman should have a friend like him ;)

This wasn't my favorite Rye Hart book, but it had to do more with the plot than anything the author did. Duncan Kelley and Rachel Dean basically grew up together and 'fell in love'. When they were in their late teens and dating, Duncan joined the military and broke up with Rachel via text. That heartbreak then affected her for the rest of her life, hindering her from going on more than one date with any other guy, let alone go further. Fast forward into the future and she's a late twenties virgin. I find it really hard to believe that Duncan and Rachel loved each other that much that him leaving caused her to put her life on hold for the next decade. That to me, reads more like obsession than love. Even adults who lose someone they love can move on and find love again, yet this teenage female couldn't? It also bothered me that Duncan had no qualms whatsoever boinking any female that moved.

I think I would have enjoyed the book more if Rachel hadn't been a virgin and subconsciously been waiting for a guy that she never knew if she was going to see again. What if she hadn't? Was she going to remain a virgin the rest of her life? I did appreciate the fact that once he reappeared, she didn't jump right into bed with him and forgive him. She made him work for it and earn her forgiveness, as she should have. When they did have sex, the scenes were good and had just the right amount of frequency for the length of the book. Overall, the book was an okay read. Quick. It would have been nice if it'd been longer, but it's worth purchasing. It's only $0.99 or free on KU and I've spent much more on far worse books.

It’s my firs story of Rye Hart I read and, I loved it.
An awesome story about second chances in love.
Rachel had a crush for Duncan, the order brother of her best friend. When he thinks she’s older, Duncan and Rachel start a love relationship, but Duncan breaks her heart with a text message.
Ten years after, they meet again. Rachel made her dreams come true and works in a Hollywood’s production (right now she’s and her team is making a music video), and Duncan is an ex-SEAL become in security/bodyguard.
What will happen when they meet again? Will love arise or grudges return? Jealousy? Fights? First time? What was the real reason for this distance?

Duncan and Rachel were high school sweethearts. Duncan was the older brother to Rachel's best friend and Rachel had a crush on him for years. When they were together things got more and more passionate. However Rachel's dad didn't approve of the relationship. When Duncan graduated and was about t go into the military, her dad had a talk to him about what was best for Rachel. Listening to her dad and loving Rachel, he broke things off in a text message which broke Rachel's heart.
Years have gone by and Rachel is still hurting from the breakup. She is still a virgin but her trust in men and relationships have been destroyed and she focuses on her career. Duncan has left the military and still has feelings for Rachel but assumed she is married with a family. Then his sister arranges for him to have a security job and the set of a music video. He is to protect the star and work closely with the set designer for safety issues. To his surprise the set designer is Rachel and she is still single He is determined to take advantage of his second chance and win her again.
This is a good book about second chances and letting go old heartbreak. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Duncan and Rachel grew up next door to each other. She’s his sister’s best friend. They were high school sweethearts. They’d talked about having a long and happy future together, but that all ended when he dumped Rachel over a text with little explanation and joined the Navy.

Heartbroken and still in love with Duncan, Rachel has thrown herself into pursuing her dream career, but has never allowed another man to get close to her. Her heart still belongs to Duncan whether or not she wants to admit it.

When Duncan’s sister meddles and forces Duncan and Rachel to face each other after many years apart, will Rachel give Duncan a chance to explain himself? Will they get a second chance at sharing their future with the love of their life or is there too much anger, resentment and hurt to move forward?

Great chemistry between the two main characters! I loved the protectiveness and possessiveness that Duncan immediately felt upon seeing Rachel again. This story is filled with broken hearted angst with all the feels, but there’s just enough hope and love still left between Duncan and Rachel after all of these years that I wanted them to fight for a happy ending.

I loved this short romance novel. Standalone. HEA.

Duncan and Rachel are one second chance duo two got to miss! Rachel has been trying to forget Duncan since he walked out of her life a decade ago. The only man she has ever loved and could ever see herself giving herself too - since she couldn't find another man to replace what she lost when he left she refocused all that engergy into her career and at least making that a success. Now he is back and hotter than ever but can she forgive him for walking way once and breaking her heart no matter the reason? Duncan thought by leaving he was giving her a chance at a real life... a shot at a future. He never got over her and never even for a second stop loving her. Now that he has found her again he knows that letting her go is not an option but getting her to forgive the past won't be easy. It's going to take ever tool in his SEAL box and then some to make Rachel see that fate and destiny cannot and will not be denied a second time around. Two stubborn heads and hearts meet in this classic do over take. Ms Hart does it again!

Review Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars.

A teeter-tottering, but ultimately sexy-sweet read!

I received an Advance Reader Copy for Hot Bastard Next Door written by Rye Hart and voluntarily reviewed this book. Duncan Kelley. He was the older brother of Rachel Dean's best friend, and he burned his bridge when he left town over a decade ago to join the military. But Duncan is back in town, still a bachelor and now an ex-SEAL with his own private security firm. And he just took on a job set up by his sister...to watch over the latest Hollywood pop star and set designer - Rachel. With all his past guilt a solid rock in his gut, he sees her and realizes that some things have changed, as well as what he thought she was going to end up doing with her life. One thing that hasn't changed, however, is how he still feels about her, but first he has her mental walls to scale, and then somehow he needs convince her, and then he may have a chance. I really enjoyed this story, with its "real-life" feel and emotions.

I received a free advanced reader copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it

After Duncan cruelly broke Rachel's heart when he left to become a seal, he told her to be free and go find her dreams, so that is what Rachel did and she became a set designer, but she was still hurt by Duncan which stopped her from really dating

Back after his sixth tour as a seal, he gets bodyguard work through his sisters fiances studio, which is where his high school sweetie is working as a set designer and boy do sparks fly!!!

Well written romance with drama and a great storyline, I was hooked and could not put the book down. The chemistry between Rachel and Duncan is electric, add in a meddling sister, a surly dad, a slimeball and a couple that really still do have feelings for one another and you get an awesome story

Another home run for Rye Hart, I have read most of her books and I am a big fan of all of them

Duncan left for the military knowing he broke Rachel's heart as well as his own. 10 years later and countless women have never changed his feelings. Rachel will always be the only woman who ever captured his heart.

When Duncan's sister contacts him about a security job, he knows there is strings attached. However, the strings attached are way bigger than he bargained for.

Rachel was finally doing what she loved. Costume designer on a pop stars music video should be a big opportunity for her. However, seeing the new security lined up for the set that her bff (Duncans sister and fiance) lined up has her shaking in her boots. This can't be happening. The one man who broke her heart is now working with her on a dialy basis until the shoot wraps. Can they finally hash out their issues and take a real chance at being together? Can Rachel finally give him the one thing that she saved?

When Duncan leaves Rachel with nothing more than a text it broke her heart. Moving on with her life the best she could -having a job she enjoys, Rachel hasn't dated much; no man has been able to match up to Duncan, the man whom she still thinks about and occasionally asks her best friend what her brother is up too.
Duncan, the ladies man, living up to his name has only had one real love in his life, but he let her go because he wanted more for her. Now due to a pushy sister, after many years being a Navy SEAL it looks like he has been given another chance, will Rachel still feel the same? Can he convince her of his intent?
I thought this was a sweet-n- sexy and rather frustrating second chance romance with an interesting plot twist. The fast moving storyline with passionate characters kept it moving along well. One sitting read for me, that took me by surprise! With an excellent HEA

What a great read about an ex SEAL, Duncan, and his first and only love, Rachel. He broke up with her when he enlisted and left, breaking up with her via text. He wanted her to follow her dreams and didn't want to hold her back. Ten years later his sister meddles and brings them together again and the feelings are there but so is the hurt and guilt. It doesn't take them long to get reacquainted but when her boss makes ripples, it's up to Duncan to figure out how to help and keep her job.
A great read with steamy scenes and a love that never died. I was hoping that Duncan grovelled a bit more and wasn't such a man wh** but the journal he gave her even brought tears to my eyes and I enjoyed the fact that there was no one trying to break them up and it was all about the two of them trying to make it work.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I absolutely fell in love with Duncan and Rachel. This was such a great read. I loved their story of second chance love. They may have have gone their own way for ten years with the unwanted help of Rachel's father but they never stopped loving one another. Along comes some more unsolicited help in the form of Rachel 's best friend and Duncan's sister, Shauna. This time it's to bring the two back together. Shauna, being caught in the middle knows the two have never stopped loving each other and both ask her from time to time how the other is. I really liked the matchmaking she did. This story was a fast paced sexy, hot and seamy read from the beginning. Once i started reading it I could not put it down. Another fantastic read from Ms Hart. I can't wait for her next book!

Oh Duncan, what did you do all those years ago. Left the only woman you cared about, loved even, but it was the right thing to do at the time..right!!! So wrong. Rachel is left devastated when her love Duncan leaves her and joins the Navy...no explanation. A young love breakup is hard, we have all been there at some point. You feel lost, devastated but you have to carry on. It is what shapes us as a person. Now Duncan is back. Their love has never really gone away but now Rachel has to see and work with Duncan every day. She is a talented set designer and her work is very important. Duncan wants to protect her. They still have old hurts to mend and once that happens I think they can rebuild their relationship. A fantastic read and having a friend like Jeffrey is a bonus for Rachel. Duncan is so loving in every way. Loved it

"Hot Bastard Next Door" is a story of hurt feelings, heartache and love everlasting between childhood sweethearts. Duncan and Rachel's story began as childhood sweethearts and leads to heartbreak in their young adult life. Duncan comes back years later, after his time as a navy seal, to his sister's meddling. She aids in bringing about a second chance to her best friend and brother who she is sure still love each other. They find the love has never left, but how will Rachel come to terms with receiving a 'see you later' text years earlier? Not an easy fix, but it will take forgiveness and healing to help them find their way back to each other for a HEA. A warm and fuzzy read with some hot sexy scenes, recommended for romantics. I would like to thank the author for gifting me with "Hot Bastard Next Door". My opinion is my own. This is mine 4 Stars!

Rachel and Duncan grew up next door to each other. Rachel was always around because Duncan's younger sister was her best friend. When Rachel grew up Duncan finally took notice and they became high school sweethearts. They talked about their future together but that all ended when Duncan left suddenly and joined the Navy with only a text as a goodbye. Rachel was left heartbroken and has never allowed another man near her. Her one passion is her career. Duncan has come home from the Navy and started a successful security business. When Duncan's sister meddles and sets them in each other's path sparks fly. The chemistry between them is intense. Duncan had his reasons for leaving Rachel but has always loved her. When her father found out he tried to them apart. Duncan was 3 years older and when he joined the navy he thought she'd be better off not waiting for him. So he told not to wait, follow her dreams and left. She was devastated but followed her dreams. Now 10 years later Duncan is out of the Special Forces and runs his own bodyguard company. Shauna's fiance needs a bodyguard for one of his clients . Duncan takes the job not knowing that Rachel is working for the client also as a set director. When Rye Hart releases a book I have my expectations. And once again she did not disappointment.
I loved this book. The storyline could have been real life and I like that. It is very well written love story.
This book has got humor, drama, second chance, hot scenes, regrets, jealousy, passion, great chemistry and much more.
It has an protective and possessive male that goes after, what he has loved for a long time. It has a woman that has to make decisions before she can go on. This book made my cheer for Duncan and Rachel and that they made their happily ever after. You have to read the book to see it they do. I just had to finish it in one go so I could read what happened next. Loved it.
A must have!
