so it took some weeks to go through this only because nclex and work and also multi-reading some other stuff, so unlike those reviews where i read a book in 2 days and can be like JDSKLFJSD AWMYGARD SPEWING OUT DE STUFFS right now i’m like lawls the beginning was wut now.
the beginning was lawls indeed. this entire book really. this series - wait, ok. so first of all, what got me so ki ni naru about this series was the absolutely amazing and stunning cover illustrations drawn by nara chiharu. as soon as i saw them on yahoo auctions by frickin accident i fell in love, and was like ALL YA’LL BIDDERS BETTA WATCH OUT, THEY BE MINE. got vol 1-6 in absolutely amazing ass balls pristine condition for a stupid ridic cheap price. it was like god was telling me COME CHILD AND READ.
bidders be cray sometimes tossing their wallet in the air and buying used books for the most ridic, expensive prices but i guess everyone was asleep or something because in the end i bought these bad boys, all 6 volumes, for like $5. maybe even less i can’t remember but i was like, dayum me.
pristine condition became wrecked during my move in oct so sigh. protect your books man. anyways, i’m avoiding kaito-angst from flesh & blood so still taking a hiatus from that series til next year but i still wanted the isekai, fantasy, historical element and so this series it was. let's begin:
juri ebihara is a 2nd year high schooler with a pretty face who hates it when people be like, “yo son, you look so pretty”. pretty boy can fight and has no problems kicking asses and winning fights both inside and outside his school, so if people think he’s weak because of looks alone - think again. overall aside from having the reputation of “don’t fuck with him” he’s your normal HS kid who keeps to himself, got a group of friend, try to be the son who protects and wants to take care of his widowed mother, and well. juri is like us. trying to live life drama-free.
except his foreign-looking english teacher, who transferred to his school last semester, hates him. like literally hates him. juri doesn’t know why but let’s just say… teacher hates him to the point of actually killing him.
so juri dies but not really ok he does but he gets reincarnated ok actually not… let's backtrack. right before he actually dies, like seconds before he took his last breathe (he was drowning so he wasn't breathing lol nice one, me), someone saved him by… byyy… teleporting him into ANOTHER WORLD.
he’s literally in another world with his smartphone. long ass fuck story short, his english teacher look-alike, in this legend of king arthur-esque world, was the one who saved him. his name is garda and he’s the brother of the bastard english teacher WHO is actually this bad ass magician in the royal palace named merlin. merlin killed the “god’s child” of this world who looks just like juri and merlin wasn’t satisfied with this and traveled to juri’s world thinking the god’s child's soul and juri is one. gotta kill ‘em all.
by the way, the god’s child of this isekai world is named juri by the way. yeah...
so garda was like, well fuck can’t have the masses know god’s child fucking died (300 years ago the king of camelot pissed the witch off somehow and so witch was like BRUH FUCK YOU and cursed the entire land where no one cannot leave the country’s border. like. see that wall. trying crossing it, OH YOU CAN’T. trump would probs be all over that witch like MAGA, i need you. so people don’t wanna be stuck in their own country for like ever apparently, so only way to reverse said curse was to use the child born in the very place the witch pointed out (THANKS?) since only that child can save them. hence the nickname of god’s child. he’s kinda a BIG DEAL seeing as HE'S THE ONLY ONE TO BREAK THE CURSE so can’t have him dying now) and so garda, just like merlin, traveled to juri’s world and managed to save him before merlin could kill him off.
but garda didn’t save juri because of the kindest of his heart. he really wanted juri to pretend to be “god’s child” for a year and if he does that, he’ll return him back home. juri was like FUCK THAT SHIT but when he realized there’s no way of going back home until the following year when the time barrier reopens, he’s left to well. fend for himself alone in the unknown and hopes he lives or do what garda wants and live like a king.
‘cept this world is way different from his own. think medieval times. and also the customs like… underwear just ain’t a thing. it’s like the author of this book wants to expose his buttcheeks in the cold air during times when they give him this customary gown to wear and he’s like lol ya’ll better give me some damn pants.
tons of things happen in this story. juri got a cool ass fuck sabrina the teenage witch sailor moon looking black cat with a white crescent on his forehead, who turns into this MADA FAKA in the end. this cat. love this cat.
juri’s dilemma is that the real, now deceased god’s child got powers like healing and juri is just a normal boy so playing pretend is going to be way harder than he thought. merlin is still out to get him. juri does meet the king, queen, and the two princes who both fight for juri’s attention.
TWO THINGS. ONE, ONE OF THE SONS - ARTHUR - BAD ASS IN THE BATTLE FIELD WHEN HE’S WIELDING HIS SWORD - obviously he’s the seme of the story despite his lil bro mordred also having feelings for juri. not great about future king arthur is, he raped juri way before he knew juri was a god’s child and hmmm. this is one of those uke falls in love with his rapist story :/
TWO, HOW THIS REVERSING THE CURSE WORKS: GOD’S CHILD AND ONE OF THE PRINCES HAVE SEX, AND THEN THE GOD’S CHILD HAVE A BABY. THAT’S HOW YOU BREAK THE CURSE. da baby. which is why after 300 years, the curse hasn’t been broken. BECAUSE TWO MALES DON’T MAKE A BABY….

this entire plot is like lawls x infinity and beyond because i had tons of questions while reading this like wtf and why the fuck and how the fuck, but then there’s a HUGE ASS PLOT TWIST in the end which changes everything yet MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. so. like basically. everything i just told you, you might as well toss it over your shoulder. or not. i hella won’t know until the next volume if this shit is furreal, but i hope the story doesn't deviate from this plot twist because ME LIKE.
this series was soooooooo not how i expect it. i knew it was isekai, but not like this lol. but juri is hilarious, he doesn’t give a shit and he got a smart mouth and a fist that can pack a punch. arthur, despite the rape (he mistook juri for someone else, which. bruh. he was trying to run away FROM YOU take the fucking hint), jeezus, but despite that. he seems like a cool asf dude… he really cares for juri. and before people give me shit, UM FUCKING MAYA IN HIDOKU SHINAIDE. HE WAS AN ABSOLUTE ASSWIPE I’M SURE WE CAN ALL AGREE, AND NOW PEOPLE BE LIKE KYAA MAYA AND NEMU. plus the other kajillion BL with its seme be rapin’, uke be lovin’ trope.
illustrations were plenty and… okay. i absolutely LOVE the cover illustrations and maybe i expected too much when opening the book, but i was kind of meh with the inside illustrations. there was one drawing though with arthur in his knightly manly armor. sexy asf.
because of that HELLA plot twist in the end, def gonna read the next volume. overall, funny and amusing as hell. i'm interested in how yakou-sensei will take this going forward. til then.

I have been ignoring this series despite being a big fan of the author because I’m tired of isekai stories and, most importantly, the isekai here is based on the story of Camelot and King Arthur. In my mind, thanks to the wonderful mm romance, Student Prince, if it’s a BL story that sets in Camelot, it should be Arthur x Merlin, or at the very least, a threesome with Arthur and Lancelot. But neither is the case here, so I hadn’t been real keen on reading it, until Amazon Japan runs a 50% points back campaign so I bought the first vol to try out. This is much better than I expected. It really shows that isekai story written by a skilled veteran writer can be so refreshing, even though the initial setup is kind of cliche, like MC was summoned to be the god’s child, but that’s because the original god’s child in Camelot has died and they look exactly the same and basically the same person in a parallel universe. The books has also so many mysteries, like why people born in Camelot can’t leave Camelot but others can. It’s also nice to read an isekai story where it really needs to be an isekai for it to work. So, I end up buying the rest of the series, including the spinoff that sets in a parallel universe that Arthur doesn’t exist and it’s just MC and Lancelot.
