Roma Raine used to be like any other detective on the beat--solving crimes and picking up random girls at bars after work. But after he came along...She changed. There's not one aspect of her life that he didn't steal from her. Now she thrives off control. Needs it, even. Why shouldn't she after all she's been through? Right when she's spiraling beyond the point of no return, a new Lieutenant gets hired to lead up the SVU unit across the hall. Will this woman be the one thing that can save Roma Raine from herself? Or will Roma be the thing that breaks her instead?

Can understand why this book as mixed ratings... its very dark, deep, approach's sensitive issues and its based from the view of just one character.
But i fucking loved it! It had me hooked, i didn't put it down (forgot to feed the frigging kids!) . 2 characters, both lovable, both have there own demons to fight, both helping each other through there issues.
I thought the blurb for this sounded familiar and I was right, I first read this as a Rizzoli and Isles fanfic, and it made more sense for those characters, as one was a detective and one an ME. Maura’s character traits also made more sense than Harper’s do here, because the social awkwardness has been removed. I also highly doubt that a lieutenant would be able to date a detective from the same precinct, or possibly at all, although it was interesting that the more dominant character (supposedly anyway) had the lower ranking job. There were also some spelling errors and missing words, so it could have used a bit more of a polish.
The Roma character has been through a horrible trauma, and her personality has manifested in relationship to this. The story is told from her point of view, so Harper is only seen through Roma’s eyes, leaving her less fleshed out. The interactions between them are fairly cute though, especially since Roma was nowhere near the bad ass she thought she was and crumbled in the face of Harper’s charms pretty easily. 2.5 stars, rounded up.
Difficult book to read in some places. Definitely a trigger warning for abuse/sexual abuse. It doesn't go into great detail but enough that you definitely know what happened to Roma. My other issue was it's all first person narrative from Roma's point of view. Would have liked to see Roma from Harper's POV. I had a hard time believing Harper as a Lieutenant in SVU was so submissive for lack of a better descriptor. There were also sooooooo many typos and at times even calling the characters by wrong names. These don't usually bother me....however, this had so many I found it very distracting. Even with it's issues, this book was a decent read. The sex scenes were steamy. I'm not exactly sure why...but I couldn't stop reading it. I'm planning on reading the sequel as well.

I gritted my teeth to finish Chapter 1 and cannot continue. Extremely poorly executed 1st person writing style and unlikeable narrator threw me off the wagon.
This was so adorable and I honestly didn’t know what the hell this was going to be about. I like that it wasn’t super dramatic and that Harper was the way she was. Had she been a drama queen, this story would have irritated me. I do have to say that the word fuck and fucking was used so much I’ll probably say it in my sleep haha. Either way, this was sweeter than it seems and a pretty easy read. I recommend it.
I was hooked on this book from the beginning. It was a story of broken, imperfect people in Roma and Harper, and how they begin to trust again, heal each other, and ultimately find love. The author's writing style in this book reminds me of Eliza Lentzski's style in books such as Call Me Hero. Losing Control made me laugh, cry, and believe that everyone can find their soulmate. I look forward to reading the next two books in this series.
Wow...so good I had to buy it after reading on Amazon Unlimited
Awesome read. There were still some questions I felt were not answered but I am hoping the follow-up story will answer. The chemistry, love, and understanding between the characters is undeniably strong! Starting book 2 now!
This is a seriously great book. I couldn't put it down once I started it. Two people who are broken and hurting in there own ways meet and help each other heal. Lots of love, sex and romance in this book and it was an all together great read.
Not what I expected at all. Five years after she's brutally assaulted, a detective fights to regain her very being. I almost gave up early on this book because I did not want to read another detailed narrative that featured a woman being physically tormented. Not so in this book, instead, we witness its aftereffects on Roma Rainey in every moment of her life. Enter Harper effing Rose as Roma affectionately calls her who has her own sad story. Together, they help each other find their way. There's some action and hot a heavy sex scenes but my favorite part of the book was Roma's strong voice and the building of her character.
