Queer Magick #2

Fairy Tales

Rate this book
Daniel St. James is dead, Holden Adams just sold his soul to a demon, and the sleepy little town of Stillwater, Vermont is on the verge of a rude awakening.

Struggling to come to terms with living on the other side of life, Daniel is more involved in the supernatural chaos that hovers around Holden than he ever wanted to be. Not only did his werewolf best friend imprint on Holden, but Nick's Alpha instincts drive him to see the undead--and Daniel as a newly minted zombie--as prey.

According to the demon Locke, there are perks that come with being the Whore of Babylon, but Holden has yet to discover them. He's still Heaven's public enemy number one and Locke is closer than ever to assembling an ensemble cast of the damned that Holden must bed in order to become the Harbinger of the Apocalypse. It's all a bit much for a former preacher's kid from Arkansas to swallow, but a redneck angel and the increasingly suspicious motives of Dennis Mills make it even harder to separate friends from enemies.

As Holden soon learns, the line between the two isn't always solid. Not in a town like Stillwater.

The Doomsday Clock is ticking, and a revelation from Holden's sealed past could be the revelation that changes the fate of the world. Unfortunately for the world, the Seven are closer to a nightmare than a dream team.

I did not remember this! I thought I did but I was clearly mistaken. Still a good story though I did skip some seeming boring parts. It's sad the series never finished and I'm told it never will. Sigh. Eh, that is life. It's not a show stopper though because while you don't know what really happens next, it's not hard for each reader to imagine their own version. I highly recommend LC Davis - excellent with the world building and snark. 😄

This was such a ride!!! This is not the end of the story but I wouldn't say it's a cliffhanger because it ends with a sort of temporary conclusion. The characters have done what they need to do at this point and the next book should pick up on the next step - whatever that might be.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and soooo recommend. Now, the continuity isn't always seemingly there (I was confused at times because a character would call another by a name I am not sure they are supposed to know yet), but the plot, the writing, the characters, the everything, was just so good!

Demons, vampires, changelings/fae, angels, apocalypse, whores of Babylon, heaven and hell, Lucifer and Michael, and Nick is also transgender. Oh, and a demon mother who is now loose. Add in some time travel and secrets being revealed, this book is action packed and it's not even close to over.

I can't wait to read the next book and I hope LC Davis can keep up the good momentum. I highly recommend this series so far. 5 stars for such a well thought out story.

“it was impossible to be afraid of whatever the darkness might be shielding when the scariest thing that lurked in the forest was purring contentedly in my lap.”

Compared to the first book, in “Fairy Tales” the author is juggling better all the different pairings and has managed to give us a stronger plot. Of course, this is a story that is more focused on the intricate romantic relationships between the many characters. But still the story managed to keep my interest.

If I could describe this book with only one word that would be “twists”, lots and lots of twists. You think the story will go in a certain direction, you know which characters will be couples, you know which of those couples you support and you know which characters you love and which ones you hate. All of a sudden, though, the plot changes direction, new couples are formed for you to cheer on and characters who you used to hate suddenly became very dear to you.

There was always something more to discover about every character. There were plenty of secrets, lots of insecurities and a lot of hidden pain. Every character chose to hide his secrets with a different way, some simply pretended that they are strong, while others chose to hide behind sass and humor.
“My, don’t you just look like the epitome of manliness and sophistication? Have I ever told you how well this end of the gender binary suits you?”

Towards the end, though, all those twists became almost too much. I felt that the change in the character pairings was too rushed and the reader didn’t have the chance to process all the new changes. Plus, there were some things that didn’t seem realistic or proper to me. I find it hard to believe that a character would be in the mood for sex so soon after his previous love interest was lost.

Another character was able to immediately change his mind and he went from hating someone to sleeping with him. The way some characters went from loving someone to not caring that they lost him seemed unrealistic to me. I wish the author had focused more on character development before making any decisions about whether there would be any changes in the relationships between the characters.

I voluntarily reviewed the free copy that I received.

Didn't enjoy this as much as I had hoped. Just found the plot swerves too sharp and the changing storyline mixed with the plethora of characters all a bit overwhelming. I spent a lot of time figuring out what was going on, who was alive, dead or just existing and where the Hell (quite literally!) everyone was. All in all I was totally confused which was a pity as it lessened my enjoyment of what was a good story. Obviously one I need to reread to fully come to grips with and I don't have the time at present.

Entertaining

It’s entertaining and the characters are well fleshed out. At times I felt bogged down in the details though.

Also, this isn’t a series, it’s a serial and I’m annoyed that again the story just stopped.

Ok. I don't know if I get the enough patience to do this in english, but I will try it.

This book was a roller coaster of emotions for me.

(f you didn't read it yet and if you don't want to read spoilers, don't continue this review) ⚠️⚠️

At the beginning I was so confused, 'cause the characters were acting so weird. Just like as if the author missed the notebook where was the personality of them. I barely recognized them from the first book. But at that moment I still like it all the TEA-DRAMA.

And THEN almost at the middle, 38%, I finally start liking what's going on. I absolutely loved Holden and Locke scene in the basement, what happened after that too. That cozy feels for Holden at home, learning magic, taking care of his (and Locke's) magic shop in the Victorian, which was in the middle of the forest. The introduction of the vampire... At that moment, I thought the book would be a 5 stars.

But then, weird things started to happen, the worsted of all of them: The time travel. I hate that plot. It ruined everything. And at that moment, everything just went down.

Just... What was the point of some things happened? Didn't have sense. *sight* I wanted me to like this book so bad. Really, really I wanted. But, sadly, didn't happen.

The only thing in this book that I really still loved it is Locke.

“Married for all of five minutes and the secrets are already coming out,” Locke said giddily. “How scandalous. I love small-town drama. It’s so tasty.”

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review as part of the Don't Buy Me Love program. I gave this book 3 stars because while I liked it, it has some problems that lowered my rating. One is that it really needs a good editor to catch some of the continuity errors. The one that really stood out to me was a werewolf who was naked and then a page later pulled a phone out of his pocket.

I struggled to finish this book. I did finish it, and in all honesty, it was because I actually like the style the author writes. My struggle came with the content. There were just too many love triangles and lying going on for me. I could not keep track of all of it. It also hit on far more supernatural (and I kind of mean like the show!) than I generally like to read. I suspect that someone in to that type of genre would like this as long as they also like multiple romantic ties that change rapidly. I do like the characters, and the author's style is flowing and nice to read. For me, it was the content that made it difficult.

I do want to thank LC Davis for allowing me to read this book. While it's not one I would likely have picked up on my own, it was worth the read, and I will likely pick up the next in the series to find out how it ends. :)

If the apocalypse was a queer soap opera, it might look something like this.

Fairy Tales is the second book in the Queer Magick series, and it continues to be just as unpredictable as the first. I was starting to think I knew where the story might be going, and then the author ripped up the rules and went in a completely different direction. I suspect that some readers will not enjoy this, but I was too entertained to be bothered by this or most of the book's other shortcomings.

The plot is often a bit over-the-top, which I don't always love, but this author is creative enough to make it work. Plus, for all the surprises, the story does start to come together and become coherent in a way it didn't in the first book. I love the characters, even when I kind of dislike them as people. I continue to enjoy the complicated romantic and sexual connections between the main characters.

I am pretty disappointed that the third book was supposed to be out in August but still isn't here. I need to know what happens next!

Wow what a great read.

I thoroughly enjoyed book second book in the Queer Magick series and can't wait for number three coming in August 2017.

If you haven't read this author before then in my humble opinion your missing out. The story is innovative and thoroughly entertaining, I couldn't and didn't want to put it down. It would take to long to tell you all the comings and goings on in these books but the basics are as follows.

Holden is a witch with a big secret, he is the Whore of Babylon and will bring about the apocalypse. To do that he needs seven concubines, a demon a vampire a werewolf an undead and three others but heaven and he'll want possession of him and it's up to his friends to help and protect him. Easier said than done.

Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed the first book in this series and while I liked this one, I got confused more often. Keep in mind that I've been reading way too many paranormal books this month so I'm sure my enjoyment was dimmed quite a bit. There was a bit much going on with so many twists and turns not to mention the changing of love interests which seemed a bit rushed. I did enjoy the way I hated a character then ended up loving them, felt a bit like a roller coaster. This isn't the end of their journey but I'm taking a break for a while.

I was reading this story with bated breath.
Lots of twist and turns, fabulous plot, loads and loads of dreams, some action and tons of mystery that kept me on my toes. I mean what more can I ask.
Loved the characters.

I enjoyed the story, maybe less than I thought I would, probably because of the many characters I had to keep track of and the twists in the plot. I'll be reading the next book in the series for sure.

I loved reading Queer Magick. It set up a wonderful plot for what could be an epic series. I just found this book falling a bit short.

I love all the characters as much as I did the first book. I just don't tend to like reading books that deal with demons and angels as much as this second book does. I didn't mind how much was in the first book, but I felt the storyline was going way different than what the first book kinda led you to believe would happen. I just didn't like the plot twists as much in this one.

Now, that doesn't mean I won't read the next book in the series. I still want to find out what will happen to everyone and who will end up with who. I am just hoping the plot twists will settle down some.
