Avah Taylor thought she had already faced the worst.
As her coven’s chosen one, destined to receive a power that could kill her, Avah was forced to make the ultimate sacrifice when she gave up her mortal life to become a vampire, the witches’ greatest enemy. But just when she begins to adjust to her new life, even as she falls in love with her sire, the high priestess of her new coven is seized by Rogue vampires.
Guided by Avah’s visions of the past, present, and future, Avah and the other vampires set out to rescue their priestess, but their journey leads Avah to the discovery that the conspiracy behind her power runs deeper than she ever imagined. As her visions grow increasingly terrifying, Avah begins to wonder if she may not have a future at all.
Danielle Rose has created a seamless transition from the superb first book in this series, to this excellent continuation. I found this second book to be as good as, if not better than the first book.
The vampire, witchy setting is a great blend of two of the best paranormals out there, and Rose makes it even better by adding in the angst and fear that their world may be in danger. The story really does have you hooked within the first few chapters. You become so involved in the characters and what they are going through that you can't leave the story. I couldn't even skip a night or reading it.
The characters are still brilliant. They were created very well in the first book and this book keeps each character consistent with the previous book. We also get the opportunity to learn more about them, and really delve deep into how they think, act and handle stressful situations.
The pace was perfect. We had speedy moments to really give us the feel that there was danger and a reason to rush about and get things done. There were typical life moments, where we bumbled along and just lived through the characters for a moment. Finally, there were slower moments where we were given a twist or some detail to try and sort through, and come to terms with. Time to really soak it in.
Overall, I think this is a brilliant continuation to the series. It it one of the smoothest transitions between first and second books I have ever read. It is interesting, exciting and fun in so many ways and it will really pull you in and have you hooked.
I highly recommend this read, especially if you are a fan of vampires and witches.
**I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
An enjoyable continuation of the first book. I really like the originality of the plot. The story was well paced and I was excited to see more depth of the characters and a little more of a glimpse into this new world. I like the idea of a hybrid vampire/witch. I just wish there was more explanation with the power and stuff since she seemed to learn it in a matter of seconds. I do like where the story is going and am interested to read more about the characters. I'm still on the fence with the new characters but the others I'm liking more and more like Jasik and his brother. I look forward to the next book and where the series goes.
Blood Magic, the follow up to Danielle Rose’s Blood Rose, may be one of those few books where the sequel is even better than the original. Rose takes the world she created in her first book to new heights with secrets, lies, betrayal, and the threat of a vampire war that raises the stakes to new levels.
At the end of Blood Rose, Avah Taylor, a witch turned vampire, was left devastated when her new vampire coven was attacked and her priestess captured by Rogue vampires. Now, Avah’s life is in danger if she can’t find her priestess, and the arrival of a mysterious stranger brings with him prophetic visions that show everyone Avah cares about soon dead. In this book, some questions are answered and new ones raised when Avah finds out that the betrayal she suffered in the first book at the hands of her witch family went deeper than she’d ever imagined. Avah might be the only one who can find her priestess and save those she loves before it’s too late, but the odds are stacked against her. Avah is no longer sure who she can trust, and her visions become even more terrifying.
I feel like a summary of this book can’t do it justice. Danielle Rose shows incredible maturity as a writer and mastery of her craft with her keen attention to detail, well-drawn characters, and brilliant plotting that will grip you from beginning to end. I read this book in a day: I picked it up in the morning and couldn’t put it down until I had finished. It’s that engaging and definitely one you need to have on your bookshelf. This is the second book of a planned trilogy, and I cannot wait to find out what happens in the third installment. It’s bound to keep you up at night!
I am so hooked on this series!! Once I started reading I couldn't put this down. The high priestess have been taken by rogues. Avah and the hunters have to save her, but to do that Avah has to use blood magic to locate her. The only problem, she learns what she has been taught growing up is a lie. Needing the witches help, they go to Avah's old coven. What she finds there, her mother almost dead and her evil grandmother is ruling, puts her on the defensive.
After doing the locator spell, Avah finds out there are more like her then she was lead to believe. Also, that she can do more then she first thought, like go out in the sun and eat whatever she wants. After all that has happen, its hard to trust. Avah's one true constant is Jasik.
Using the blood magic, not only helps pinpoint where the priestess is but brings a vision of doom for the group. Who is out to get Avah? Will any of them survive???
I have been really enjoying the series. There are interesting twists and turns that keep you in suspense. The characters are very well written and I enjoy how they relate to one another.
The relationship between Avah and Jasak is very strong and feels right to both of them. Avah is exploring her powers and learning more which in some ways could jeopardize their bond. She is also learning more about the witches and her role as a chosen.
There is an intriguing storyline about saving their high priestess of the coven after she is taken by Rogue vampires. It ends leaving you eager for more stories featuring these intriguing characters.
*spoilers ahead; I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a review*
As witch-recently-turned-vampire Avah Taylor settles into (un-)life with her new vampire coven, she joins her fellow Hunters, vampire protectors of the coven, in conducting a search for their lost High Priestess, who was captured at the end of the last novel. While they roam across the Pacific Northwest of America, Avah learns more about herself and her abilities with the help of half-breed witch-vampire like herself, Sebastian. Together, with the help of Sebastian and a surprisingly large number of half-breeds, Avah and her coven’s Hunters discover a disturbing secret—that an army of Rogue vampires (responsible for most of the negative impressions given to vampires) has been building for quite some time and threatens the existence of both other types of vampires.
Like Blood Rose, Blood Magic is an interesting foray into the world of magic and a divergence from your typical YA/NA vampire lit. Though it is the second book in the series and intended to be read after the first book, I imagine Blood Magic would be a little difficult to pick up having not read Blood Rose. The recap in the first chapter of Blood Magic tackled an astonishing amount of information, which I had forgotten the series contained. In Blood Rose, it all comes slowly together, giving you time to process each piece. In Blood Magic, it comes all at once. Avah is a spirit-using witch, and a chosen one, and got the Power, and died because of Rogues, and became a vampire due to Jasik’s intervention, and there was a battle, and they lost their priestess, and there’s another vampire with Avah’s violet eyes. Remember? Yes, but it might be better to dive straight into Blood Magic after you’ve given Blood Rose a re-read. After you sort all this information out, Blood Magic goes smoothly on its way and builds its world out further with the introduction of and fleshing out of half-breed witch-vampires like Avah. Perhaps the most interesting parts of the novel come from watching those seemingly two different species combine, resulting in equal parts blood and magic, weaving so seamlessly that how could you even have pictured them separately to begin with?
Adhering to breed standards, Blood Magic, as a New Adult novel, contains a gratuitous amount of detailed sexual encounters. These are chiefly between protagonist Avah and her sire-love Jasik, whose romantic interactions no longer feel like they’re unfounded; Jasik and Avah now have a history fraught with danger, and their attraction to each other and desire to stay together feels natural and sweet. My biggest fear concerning them was the inclusion of Sebastian, introduced at the end of the first novel. Described as “sexy” and “a ladykiller,” I feared Sebastian’s charm and vampiric similarities to Avah would prompt my least-favourite trope of all-time in romance novels: the dreaded love triangle. Danielle Rose deviates from this formula masterfully. Though there is a growing attraction between Avah and Sebastian, after only a single kiss, Avah makes it clear that she is not at all interested in Sebastian romantically, and because we’re all adults here, Jasik (who has witnessed this scene) doesn’t throw a temper tantrum and drop Avah like a hot potato—they talk it out. And while Avah does keep her secrets, which results in another fight, it’s clear that Jasik and Avah care deeply about each other and behave at least like thirty-somethings (which one might hope from a 700-year-old immortal being), though as both Jasik and Sebastian survive into the third and final installment, I anxiously have to wonder if this trend will continue.
As always, Danielle Rose’s writing is practically flawless. Her word choice and syntactical variety delight me, a self-professed language nerd. Paranormal romance and new adult are not my preferred genres, but Rose’s skill in her craft makes the writing at least interesting to read and at most enjoyable where I had assumed it couldn’t be. Again, I applaud her writing skill, which is enough to make me want to read anything she has written, regardless of my interest in the subject matter. Though there were a few phrases I noticed repetitively creeping through (how exactly does an accent coat someone’s words? Is it necessary to keep mentioning the accent, or should it show through in dialogue?), the writing was pleasantly varied and descriptive.
Avah herself I had a harder time coming to a conclusion about. Some of the things she said I rolled my eyes at and thought, “Really?” But then I realized that of course Avah and I are not the same person. I was so drawn into Rose’s world that I somehow assumed I could control the action. Make no mistake, Avah is not a pair of pants to slip on and lose yourself in; she is a complex character with a distinctly stubborn and outspoken personality. Just because I didn’t always like her doesn’t mean that she isn’t a good character. Though she does seem to have a “favoured by the gods” thing going—she is often brought back from near-death experiences, she is skilled and learns new things more quickly than anyone else around her has or expected anyone to, she is seemingly attractive to everyone, including the bad guys—Avah seems mostly oblivious to these things and her reactions almost make those things less glaringly obvious. Almost. Perhaps the coolest thing about Avah, though, is that she is absolutely not helpless and refuses to be so. I know I cringed a little in Blood Rose watching Avah submit so fully to Jasik, but she has grown in this book, accepting and using the strength she has always had within her. In the next book, she may be unstoppable.
I enjoyed reading this book. Has it irreparably altered the course of my life? Probably not, but it is fun, it is interesting, and it is different from a lot of what crashes to the forefront on the waves of the great young-adult-vampire-romance ocean. I would recommend this book strongly to those who enjoy the genre and also to those who think the genre is oversaturated. Simply because a topic is popular doesn’t mean it can’t produce a few gems, and Blood Magic is one of them.
Blood Magic picks up shortly after the ending of Blood Rose and in the aftermath of the battle with the Rogue vampires and the kidnapping of Avah's high priestess. Avah and her team set out to track down their leader and uncover some closely held secrets and some new friends and enemies.
In this sequel, the relationship between Jasik and Avah is solidified, after some initial upset from the surprise guest at the end of the first book. There is more heat in this sequel than in Blood Rose and can't complain as Jasik and Avah mesh so much better in this book than in its predecessor. Avah's position within the coven is also much more stable, she's beginning to become more accepted within her team of hunters and her relationship with Malik has some of its kinks ironed out.
Danielle's world is once again a unique take on vampires and witches, blending magic and lore and creating something entirely new. The revelations in this book were surprising and Avah dealt with them with a realistic mix of maturity and anger at the betrayal of her old life. This was a satisfying and entertaining addition to the Blood series and I'm looking forward to Blood Promise.
Review! Blood Magic by Danielle Rose. Rating 4.75/5 stars! Don't be mad at me for the rating I have an explanation for it, and I am gonna write it at the end, as Grand-Finale. Ok, so Blood Magic starts right were Blood Rose finishes. Some big questions we had in the first book find their answers here in the second chapter of this series and I loooved it. I loved it. Really. What I mostly liked about Blood Magic is the character development, especially Malik and Lillie's characters: I appreciated the way they started trusting Avah, keeping their problems aside; in fact we get to see them all now as a family. The settings again were incredible, even if this time they had less details. Another important thing for me is the way Danielle chose to handle the love triangle. It was simple, Avah knew her feelings, but she wanted to be fully aware of her love for Jasik, so she came across a "problem" or two, but nothing too complicated (as everyone seems to like but me) and I loved this decision. Ok now let's see why I gave a 4.75 stars. The whole book was a 5/5 stars if it wasn't for that last chapter. I would have finished the book in the middle of it. I know, I am masochist. I have an addiction to book slumps that's why I would have ended the book THAT way (which I am not going to tell you because it is A HUGE SPOILER). It would have produced in me great sadness but it would have also left me without words... Like... NO THIS ISN'T HAPPENING. So yeah, 4.75/5 stars because I didn't really appreciated the last pages, even though guys this book's AMAZING. And always remember: don't mess up with the wrong witch!
Blood Magic picks up seamlessly right where Blood Rose finished (with the aftermath of the Rogue battle). The house is left reeling not only from the loss of their comrades, but also the fact that no one knows if their leader is dead or alive, and if that wasn't enough, it doesn't look like anyone is going to catch a break soon! We learn more about the mystery that is Sebastian (yay!), and believe me when I say that he will soon become one of your favorite characters (and possibly another love interest for Avah? ... I'll never tell! :p) There are major life-changing revelations and developments made involving Avah, and her growth alone as a character in this installment is nothing short of incredible. Danielle Rose's growth as a writer also needs to be mentioned- Blood Rose impressed me, but Blood Magic blew it right out of the water. There were more sexy times (which I enjoyed), but more importantly, both Avah's and Danielle's maturity (as a main character, and as an author, respectively) were very evident throughout this book. I liked it. I liked it a lot. So, basically what I'm saying is, I sure as hell can't wait for book 3!
The first time I met with Danielle Rose's writing in Blood Rose, I thought it's very good, high qulity and prime. Her writing style has the power to pull you right into the story.
Reading Blood Magic was an even more intense experience. I think Avah's character got more matured with all the things that happened around and inside her. I love how brave and determined is Avah, even in her hardest moments.
I still have a massive crush on Jasik <3 I love the Hunters, too, and Sebastian is a really interesting character.
It's going to be hard to let them go in the third and final book, but I can't wait to see what Danielle Rose has in store for us in Blood Promise.
Once again this author has blown me away, Blood Rose (book 1 ) was a wicked read and book 2 Blood Magic is even better. It picks up exactly where book 1 finished.. It was very well written and flowed with great ease and a steady pace. I love the characters, Avah is maturing and coming into her powers in ways that are surprising to all. I was very pleased to learn more about Sebastian. There was more heat in this book which was very nice. Magic, Witches, Vampires, High Priestess - every thing I love in a GOOD fantasy paranormal story and this has it in spades.. Overall this was a brilliant read and I cannot wait for book 3.
I received this for free in exchange for a fair and honest review.
wow wow amazing!!!! absolutely loved this book. non stop read. it was better than the first and now I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series for i am dying to find out where Avah goes from here. Danielle rose who are an amazing author and your books are amazing i cant wait for the third book in the series.
This book is awesome! Danielle did a great job of developing the characters more in this book. I did not want to put the book down because it was so suspenseful! I cannot wait for the next book!
Blood Magic is the second book in the Blood Books series and I don't even think I have the words to describe how much I loved this book. Have you ever heard the saying "Write the book you would want to read", well this is my book. This is the book I would have written if I were to write books (and maybe someday I will) and I can't even begin to tell you how precious this book is to me.
Avah is a vampire-witch hybrid that is finding herself in this new world. She is stronger than ever before and I don't just mean physical strength and powers. Because she was raised as a mortal witch to do what was best for her coven and to always think about the coven, plus to be the chosen one and give her life for her coven, her life was never really her's. Now she is becoming the person that she thinks she was meant to be all along and she is becoming a better person because of it.
There are so many things that happen in this book. One major secrets about Avah's past and future are revealed and it sheds a lot of things into a whole new light including the actual motives of her old coven. Plus things with Sebastian, the other hybrid, is starting to change Avah in some way, she starts feels a connection to him. While things around the other vampires that she is around is starting to get a little bit better. They seem to trust her more and her bonds with the other hunters is growing stronger by the second.
However things aren't all sunshine and roses and the group has to rally around some newly formed allies in order to get the high priestess, Amicia, back from the rogues. The relationships in this book are tough and they grow into something special, a bond that is unbreakable.
Danielle has done such a fantastic job writing this book. I am so invested at this point that if the final book doesn't turn out right I will be beyond devastated although I can't even see that happening. The plot is so good and I can't wait to see what happens next plus I love the fact that this take on vampires have hunters, hybrids, rogues and so much more. A lot of racism comes into play because everyone has such strong bias against the other races and it causes so many more problems that could be avoid. Also I sound note that the magic in this book is amazing, it gives off an elemental vibe, a charmed vibe and another thing that I just can't put my finger one, but it's all rolled up into one.
Blood Magic has everything that I could want in an urban fantasy with witches, vampires, hybrids, magic, steamy romance, battles, plots, familial bonds and so much more. One thing is for sure, Avah hasn't gone through nothing yet, even though the ending in Blood Magic left me teary-eyed , the big stuff is surely to go down in the final book, Blood Promises and I can't wait to see how it all ends.
Blood Magic is the second book in the Blood Books trilogy by Danielle Rose. She presents us with a deliciously intense story filled with jealousy, betrayal, love, and war. When I thought this series couldn’t get any more better than it already is, I was proven wrong.
Just as her relationship with Jasik is hotting up, Avah finds herself caught between his jealousy and her friendship with Sebastian. Like Avah, Sebastian is a hybrid who fulfils Avah’s request to train her on her abilities. During her training with Sebastian, Avah begins to discover what it really means to be a hybrid. This appeared to have made Jasik insecure and fuel his dislike for Sebastian. It annoys Jasik that Sebastian is a hybrid like Avah because that seems to make him understand Avah better than he can. Like I said, do not expect a juicy love triangle to overtake the narrative like Stephanie Meyer did with Twilight. Danielle puts the love triangle in this story to bed.
Although the narrative contains fast paced action it not as action packed as Blood Rose, as half of the narrative includes the hunt for the high priestess and Avah’s training for Sebastian. The more the narrative develops, the closer we get to finding the high priestess, the juicer the story gets. Like Blood Rose, I found it difficult to put the book down as I was eager to find out what happens next. There was a perfect balance between the fast-paced action and the milder action in the story. Most of the secrets are concealed, Danielle hit you with many surprises and things you just weren’t expecting. This makes the story even more thrilling.
Unlike Blood Rose, Avah’s old coven has a bit more involvement in Blood Magic. Since Avah performs ‘blood magic’ in the story to perform a locator spell to find the high priestess, Avah calls upon her old coven for help. Of course, this does not go smoothly, since witches and vampires are enemies.
Although Sebastian has a great personality and a good sense of humour, you can’t help feeling that maybe he has some sort of an agenda. So news travelled to his ears that there was a hybrid vampire in town, and that hybrid happened to be Avah. Suddenly, he lands on the doorstep of her new coven, but why? What does he really want? A place to stay, or does he know something? It is slightly annoying because Sebastian is such a likable character, you do not want him to turn out to be the bad guy in the end.
I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher, but all opinions are my own.
Note: This review contains NO spoilers
Seriously!?! My heart is still racing! Then the cliffhanger ending...really!?! Ugh! Can I have Book 3 now, please...hahaha!!! From Blood Rose (book 1) to Blood Magic (book 2), there has been a ton of growth with these characters. In this second installation in the Blood trilogy, secrets from the first book has been revealed, but other secrets come to light in this second book. These characters are thrust into an astounding amount of obstacles in which forces them to face several truths that questions themselves, especially Avah.
The start of the Blood Magic gives readers a short summary of the events from Blood Rose, essentially refreshing readers' memory of the events prior. Anyways, the flow of the story remains fast-paced and evolving. The characters are thrust into situations that seem impossible. The romance between Avah and Jasik to continues to grow; even their intimate moments got steamy. Whoa! And, more characters are introduced whom of which are connected to these secrets that have been revealed since the beginning. There are so many twists and turns to these characters that it kept me guessing to what is the truth...haha!
As this series continues to unveil the interesting twist of vampire and witches, I was completely fascinated with how Danielle Rose created and intertwined this world of vampires and witches... even hybrids. Whoa! Avah's struggle to balance both within herself is complex and emotional. I could pretty much "feel" her frustrations. I was completely immersed in this world, seen through Avah's vampire/witch eyes. I am no expert on either vampire or wiccan lore, but Danielle has continued to wow me on her imaginative and magical telling of this story.
No doubt! I NEED the next book...haha! That cliffhanger really got me! Danielle got me so emotional with Blood Magic that I was gasping for breath. Sheesh! This is an enjoyable read for fans of these genres. However, the cliffhanger...really!?! Danielle definitely has that knack to keep readers wanting more...even with those gut-wrenching cliffhangers. I seriously can't wait to find out what happens next for Avah and everyone else.
My actual rating is 3.75 stars. I’m having a hard time figuring out what to rate this book as I thought it was an improvement in someways but I also had a serious issue with a couple of things.
Not a lot of plot happens during this novel. Basically none at all, actually. But the author did improve upon character dynamics and flushed out her characters SO much more in this novel which made me really happy. I would have liked to see more of an Avah and Jasik interaction outside of the bedroom during this novel, but I LOVED the building of Avah and Malik’s relationship. I found the Avah and Sebastian potential relationship in this novel to be so annoying and I’m glad that the author ended it in this book.
The plot was just okay. I feel like it would have been nice to close out this book with knowing what the “big thing” coming for them was. It would have made the book feel more connected to the third book and set up for an exciting third book. I don’t mind the plot not being so predominant in this novel because I got to know the characters so much more which I enjoy more.
I had a VERY serious issue was the Sebastian Avah kiss. That is low key cheating, my friends. She kisses him back and then Jasik sees everything and is like “I just don’t want to lose you?” While she’s kissing another guy and lying to him throughout the book. I know she tells Sebastian that she doesn’t like him like that and was confused (?? I didn’t get this part) for some reason by thinking she was kissing Jasik but Jasik doesn’t know any of this. I’m sorry but I don’t understand how neither of those things could be a big deal. Those things needed to be talked about and handled properly and they weren’t.
If that was handled properly and I saw more from Jasik in this novel outside of the bedroom, I would have loved this book. The kiss was really upsetting. I plan on continuing immediately and hope that the author continues improving as she has so far (besides those two things) in the third novel.

Title: Blood Magic Author: Danielle Rose Age Level: New Adult Genre: Paranormal Romance Part of a Series?: Yes (the Blood Books series, Book Two)
*I was provided an advanced reading copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: Avah Taylor thought she had already faced the worst: as her coven’s chosen one, destined to receive a power that could kill her, she was forced to make the ultimate sacrifice when she gave up her mortal life to become a vampire, the witches’ greatest enemy. But just when she begins to adjust to her new life, even as she falls in love with her sire, the high priestess of her new coven is seized by Rogue vampires.
Guided by Avah’s visions of the past, present, and future, Avah and the other vampires set out to rescue their priestess, but their journey leads Avah to the discovery that the conspiracy behind her power runs deeper than she ever imagined, a secret that forces her to reconsider, once again, who she can trust.
With her abilities as both witch and vampire, Avah may be the only one who can locate her coven’s high priestess. But as her visions grow increasingly terrifying, and her life is threatened by both enemies and those she once loved most, Avah begins to wonder if she may not have a future at all.
Overall Impressions: As with the previous book, Blood Rose (which I reviewed here), once I cracked open Blood Magic, I didn't want to stop until I had reached the end. It was exciting, fast paced, and did a great job of moving the story forward.
The Nitty Gritty: Blood Magic is the second book in Danielle Rose's Blood Books series. One of my special concerns when reading a series is how it ties in with the previous book or books. Blood Magic does an excellent job dealing with both the previous readers and the possibility of new readers starting with Blood Magic instead of Blood Rose: the world is reestablished in one of two precisely written paragraphs, and then the action moves forward in a quick and fulfilling manner. As a returning reader I was neither bored by the recap nor made to wait long for new material. Ms. Rose struck an excellent balance.
And how was that new material? The short version is that it was entertaining and emotional. While there was a good variety of up and down beats, it was primarily a heart-pounding adventure akin to a super hero movie. The action started on page two and never really stopped. Even the pauses were page-turning pacing. My eyes widened, my pulse raced, I laughed out loud, there were events that surprised me, and I cried both happy and sad tears.
As for the new material, I was pleased to find that it added tension to the existing storyline, developed character, and added more depth to the world Ms. Rose has created for this series. It was skillfully done; everything in this book did double-duty.
Special Parenting Concerns: Sex Scenes: Avah is a bit older (in life experiences, anyway) in this book, and her relationship has moved into a phase of deeper connection. This has (very naturally) led to more exploration of the sexual side of her relationship. Consequently, there are two sex scenes (rather than the one in Blood Rose) and they are more detailed than they were in the first book as well.
Violence: This book's plot centers around a war between witches and vampires. There are vampires of varying degrees of violence. Fighting, blood, and death occur more than once in this book. However, there is never violence just for violence's sake, nor is there a great deal of detail put in to the gore. The coven Avah belongs to does not hunt for their blood. Instead, they get their blood from willing donors via blood bag. However, there are special circumstances in this book that result in facing the need to get blood from other sources.
Language: No (or very, very little) swearing.
Book Club Chatter: This book can open the door for a variety of discussions between parents and their high school and older children (or your book club!):
-This book does a good job of really highlighting how things such as racism, sexism, sexuality, etc (differences between people, in other words), can separate us--and how needless that separation is. What differences are in your life (or your child's life) that have caused anger, distrust, or other negative emotions to reign? Why did this happen? How can we get around these differences, working with them and working to understand them rather than allowing them to separate us? -What is courage? Is it the absence of fear or facing it? What are good ways to deal with fears? -With two books (of three) read, it is possible to begin looking for foreshadowing and making hypotheses about what will happen in the third book. -Now that you know them better, which characters are you favorite? Who do you identify with? Why do you like him/her/them? -Pick a favorite scene or two and discuss: a) how you would have handled it if you where a character, b) what writing elements cause this scene to really sing for you, c) what you wish had been differently--and how you think that would impact the remainder of the story.
You Will Like This If…:
You liked Blood Rose (although that may be a little obvious ;-) ) You like Twilight, Chosen, or Blue Bloods Authors such as Marjorie Liu and Sherrilyn Kenyon Books that blend more than one genre: this is a paranormal action romance, blending vampires AND witches, action AND romance. As a New Adult novel, this book could appeal to those who love Young Adult, New Adult, and traditional Paranormal Romances
My Rating: 5 Stars
It is an exciting book and I am glad to have a copy of it; I am confident I will read it again in the future. I do wish that there had been more development in the character relationships--I feel a bit too much of it was done off-stage, in the short amount of time that occurred between books--but this is minor. To have spent more time in this arena would, I think, have drastically slowed down the pace of the book. And that is not something I am sure would have improved the story or experience overall. The bottom line: I can't wait to read the next one and am very grateful that it released on June 28th!

I was given this ARC for my honest review After all Avah went thru, she didn't think it could get any worse. I would love to give 10+ stars if I could! A must read It would be helpful if you read the first book in the series. The team are going on a journey that could bring them closer or tear them apart. Many twists and turns, with a few surprises thrown in. Happy Reading!! Avah Taylor, 21, super witch/vampire, had a small affinity for the elements, she was a "chosen one". But little did she know, the true meaning, of being a chosen one, until now that is, and betrayal of the worst kind!
Avah, trained every day, with Sabastian ,sometimes hours at a time. The more time they spent together, the closer they became. Avah and Jasik were falling more in love as each day passes, she finally found her place, a new family, if you will. So much has happened since that fateful night that her blood family turned their backs on her. After the abduction of their High Priestess Amicka, they meet up with meet up with more witch/vampires coven, to start tracking the Rogue Vampires, that took Amicka.
Thank you Danielle Rose for writing this amazing series!!
We got to learn so much more about Avah, she is my new Book Chick, I love a girl vamp who has a mind of her own, knows what she wants and goes after it as best as she can, she became a much more defined Vamp/witch or Hybrid as they are known.
I don't want to give too much away, but I cried so hard at some places in this book, but then I love a book that makes you cry in a good way, Malik seems to be warming up to Avah, but then emotions like those will bring anyone closer together, I hope this is the start of a relationship that grows.
All the characters have grown and have become a beautiful family unit, there is still animosity between a couple but its family and that happens, regardless of whether you are human, vamps or witches.
Danielle's writing is growing on me with each book I read from her, she writes how I love to read, as though you were reading a script, it helps make me imagine all the scenes and how they happen in my mind
I know a lot of you don't like cliffhangers but you will enjoy this one, there is a happyish ending which should keep you going until the next one comes out, one of the reasons I am really looking forward to Book 3
Blood Magic picks up where the first book leaves off... But a few months later after an attack of Rogue Vampires. The new coven of vampires have accepted Avah as one of there hunters. But Avah has some special gifts being that she is a hybrid Vampire. A vampire with all of her super chosen witch powers that she got from the ceremony and a special hidden secret that we learn about in Blood Magic. This is a super fast book.. meaning once you start reading it you can't put it down. There are surprises that come out that you won't expect to happen. Avah is super smart and catches on quickly as to what she needs to do while learning about her new ability as a Vampire/Magic user. If you want to know what surprises and magical secrets... You need to read Blood Magic... I did and loved it
A very exciting journey that I need ore of now! This series has it all...Magic, Witchcraft, Vampires, Rogues, Seers, Healers, Action, Drama, Romance, & Mystery Galore!! My first experience with Danielle Rose's work was with Blood Rose & I was completely hooked. I enjoyed her magical twists & exciting adventures, & could not wait to get my hands on book 2!! Blood Magic did not disappoint! She has created a whole new take on hybrids with an alternate vampire witch relationship. A very exciting journey that I need ore of now! I am sooooo eagerly awaiting book 3 (Blood Promise)...it seriously can't get here fast enough! https://jenisbookshelf.blogspot.com/2...
The second book in the story of Avah as she learns to live as not only a vampire but as a hybrid vampire/witch learning to develop the new powers she has gained, learning from Sebastian another hybrid. This story is an amazing follow on from Blood Rose. After learning secrets kept from her the whole time she was growing up changes everything she thought she knew. Along with the fact that the high priestess of her vampire coven is missing, taken by the very rogues that tried to kill her, Avah and her fellow hunters have to talk to the very coven that have swarm to kill her in aid to find her new high priestess. I would definitely recommend it to any reader. This review was written on behalf of Amo and Sarah's book corner.
I received and eARC of this books provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. That doesn’t affect in any single way my thoughts and rating on this book.
There is no way that by reading book is making to want more stories about witches and vampires combine!!! Shame on you Danielle. This books follows were the first book left behind. A lot of action pack in it. The battle between the rogues and the hunters us really though. Because the hunters are trying to kill them all, but something bad in this books is about to happened. Avah plays a big part of this coven of hunters (want to know more you got to read it)
Avah just confess more of her love to Jasik. Jasik, is turning to be the man I needed the most in such a live we are living here. I know this is just fictional, but we all women know we need sometimes a man by our side just like him, right? Jasik is the best hunter that this coven has and when his caught up with a major problem between the war that has happened between the Rogues and them has left him wrecked and to become a lider just like Avah. I won't give to much of details, because otherwise I'll have to hide the entire review for spoilers.
What has being stuck in my head is how this two love each other. Not that is cliché or anything similar. Also to see other vampires in the coven finding love!!! I know, I love vampires way to much and witches too. This book is the perfect match between action scenes such as war, sex scenes and much more. She truly make another good book that everyone will love it.
This second book took place at the end of the previous one, the priestess has been abducted and Jasik, Malik, Avah, Lillie and Jeremiah are preparing to go and retrieve her. They’re going to find quite unexpected help with Sebastian and other hybrids.
I liked this second book which offers us a little more action, we also discovered more about hybrids and their powers. This promises a rather impressive final battle, as in the first book I would have liked to see a little more magic. However the story is interesting enough to keep us going.
I have a lot of trouble with people who hide the truth from their friends and I admit that I had even more trouble with Avah. She hides something very important to her vampire friends and especially to Jasik with whom she shares her bed, and I don’t like that. She should know that lying isn’t good and that the people concerned will be even more hurt.
The relationship between Avah and Sebastian is interesting and I would like to see Sebastian linger a little more with the small group. I think the 3rd book will bring us many answers and I hope that Sebastian will find his happiness, as well as Malik.
I had a very entertaining time with this book, Danielle Rose is good at writing scenes of actions but also sexy and hot scenes. I like that the relationship between Jasik and Avah is so strong, they love each other from the beginning even if Avah had difficulty in admitting it. She has no hesitation about the person she is in love with.
I cannot wait to read the third book and find out who is the big bad guy or the big bad girl …
Blood Magic is the second book in the series and I highly recommend going and reading book one first, you won't be disappointed. It picks up basically where it left off, our hero vampires are trying to find their leader and will stop at nothing to get to her even if that means teaming up with unlikely groups. Avah is figuring more about who and what she is with each day. Blood Magic is action packed, a new twist on your paranormal stories that leaves you needing more.
Book two brings Avah and the hunters, along with Sebastian in search of Amicia. Along the way Avah begins to tap into her abilites more and also finds out some secrets that may affect her and her life with Jasik and the vampires. Faced with an epic battle, they all must put aside thier worries and focus on staying alive. This story provides us with more information about the hybrids and future events. I am excited to see what Book Three brings.
Note: I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest reviews.
This was even better than Blood Rose! The story picks up right where the first book ends and is just as fast-paced! I still love Jasik! The love he and Avah share is just so beautiful! I love the fact that Avah begins to learn her new abilities and her dynamic with Sebastian. I'm not okay with the way this book ended, but all in all still was a good read!
Entertaining and enjoyable reading, action, danger and heart pounding adventure in this magical continuing journey. Recommend reading book one before reading this one.
Avah Taylor is powerful, sassy and a strong willed survivor as a witch turned vampire. Lots of exciting adventure and danger unfolds as their world is turned up side down and inside out. Enjoyed reading about this magical world with intriguing mysteries unfolding and look forward to the next installment.
