Cupcakes in Paradise #2

Star Spangled Killer

Rate this book
Just when business starts booming for the busy summer tourist season in sunny Calgon, Florida, Melissa Beckett engages in a struggle of wills with a health inspector who seems to have a very negative agenda. When the new detective in town appears to be looking for reasons to shut her down, Chas and Spencer look for a motive, and end up putting themselves in danger, for the sake of solving a murder.

Izzy disappears to New York, but has a change of heart and comes back to talk with Spencer, only to find that things are worse than she thought. Will this be the end of the "on again, off again" couple? Will Missy's shop pass the nearly impossible inspection, or will the business that she worked in for her entire adult life have to close its doors forever?

Missy and Chas Beckett are enjoying life in Calgon, Florida. She is running her beloved cupcake shop and he is now retired from being a detective on the local police force and running his own PI firm along with their friend, Spencer. Missy is having trouble with the new health inspector and the boys are working to solve a murder to help the police. Tim, the local coroner and his assistant Fiona are embroiled in the mystery of who has been stalking her and breaking into her house. These are some of the most interesting and believable characters that you will ever meet between the pages of a book. The murder plots are always well done. You need to start this series from Book #1 to get the entire impact of what is going on. A must read for cozy fans!

Another great book. Missy is having a hard time and just feeling blah. There is a murderer on the loose and Spencer goes hunting for it. Chas was busy running his new detective firm and Echo is busy with her new baby. I love the characters in this book and all the sides stories. I love how the story lines keep going through the series and that Summer Prescott does a slight tie in to another series.
Love the series and a quick fun read.

The tourist season is upon Calgon, Florida. Melissa is very busy and looking to hire a new employee to help out with deliveries. After a prominent citizen dies, his wife demands all of the businesses from which he ate that day be inspected. She won’t allow an autopsy, but is looking for someone to blame for his death. Missy owns one of those businesses. The health inspector appears to have something against Missy and cites her with a long list of minor issues and closes the store down.
Fiona continues to be stalked by an unknown person who is seemingly dangerous. Her boss knows who the creeper is, but won’t tell the police. Instead he takes information to Chas and Spencer and asks them to help protect Fiona.
Izza heads to New York and refuses to answer Spencer’s calls and text messages. Will their relationship survive her latest attack of suspicion. Her brash publisher is most concerned with the completion of her next book, but sends her back to Florida to clean up her unfinished business.

This book has moments that flat out scared me. Tim’s past is back to haunt him and she is frightening. To me, Fiona’s storyline is a standout in this series. It left me with some unanswered questions. The plot moves at a steady pace and you don’t want to but the book down, unless you’re like me and it scares you into taking a break. The characters are well-developed and come to life. You must read all of the books with Tim’s story in them. It really puts things together for you if you haven’t read outside this series. I recommend all of Summer Prescott’s books.

Just when you think everything is okay, things happen - first someone breaks into Fiona's house and leaves some weird objects on her table with a knife stabbed into the center of it, then they set her garage on fire and then they attack her personally and she is hidden in a hospital for her protection. Health inspector comes to the bakery and does a health inspection that fails for obscure regulations that have nothing to do with food. A couple more bodies show up and things are getting very intense and it's a quick dive into insanity, no one understands why this is happening, then Spencer starts following a trail and discovers there is a serial killer causing all these deaths and warns Solinsky that if he doesn't provide protection for some people what happens will be on his head and Spencer will be happy to tell National Media that he was the one who didn't protect these people from a serial killer. Well, the twists and turns continue but the ending is a heart stopping shocker. Great read.

O. M. G. !!!!

I was extremely lucky to get an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. Even though this is only book 2, there have been a few series before this. Really though, O. M. G. !!! So, Missy and the other characters have been around and we have gotten to know them and I really live how some of the characters have been blended from another series. The characters and series are growing to epic proportions and getting more involved the further this wonderful story is going and this just may be the best book to date. The story is unique and is far from over. Life is never dull in Calgon, FL and I am positive things will never be the same again. There have been many murder already in this coastal town but a serial killer has set her sights on it now. I just couldn't put this book down. It's full of excitement. I can't even guess what might be in store for the gang in the near future.

A mortuary director's past can be creepy!

20 stars!!!!!!!
Timothy Eckels and Fiona were in a really bad situation, where Tim finally had to go to Chas and Spencer for help when the new idiot detective that replaced Chas.
There are some weird killings happening around town and Missy is a strong suspect and her shop is a target.
I didn't sleep much.
YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!
I love this series.

Serial killer on the loose

Really, really hated the ending. When the mortuary assistant's life is in danger she is confined to the psych ward of the hospital. Is the killer the same one who killed the assistant mayor and the homeless man? Can it be that the serial killer is tracking the coroner? The characters are getting better but frankly the plot, although well written, left me cold. Not one of my favourite reads.

Terrifying story.

This story is terrifying and fast paced. The plot centers around Tim Eckles and other characters from the Incredibly Sweet series. Very good book and am looking forward to the next (even though my heart is still trying to beat out of my chest!!).

Weird story.

I love the story. I was so sorry to see Izzy and Spencer lose touch. Missy is one tough girl. I felt bad for Fiona. I was also upset with Tim. He was not a upstanding guy in this story.

It's the 4th of July and Missy decides to start donating cupcakes to a homeless shelter. Fiona's soccer is back and ready for her vengeance. I like that the author is not tying everything up in a little bow in each book.
