Hiring John

Rate this book
A promotion sends Londoner Britain St. James across the ‘pond’ all the way to Sin City, USA -- Las Vegas. But success isn’t smelling quite as sweet as she realizes she’s middle-aged, single, and with no manly prospects on the horizon. Having no one to share her achievements with sucks, and her man-hungry assistant, Kathy, doesn’t count! As the melancholy sets in, the complimentary drinks flow, and Brit decides that “When in Rome…,” she should do as the Romans do, if the Romans hired male escorts! Before she loses her liquid courage, she makes the call, ordering herself a hot, man-sandwich!

J.D. Russel is stuck sitting in boring seminars in what is supposed to be the adult playground of America babysitting his boss’s annoying son. Sure, Jesse is also his coworker, but J.D. doesn’t care. Recovering from a bad divorce, he craves fun, excitement, and just a little depravity. When he meets a saucy redhead who whisks him off to bed, he feels his prayers to the powers that be have been answered.

Sexy hijinx ensue when Brit hooks up with her man-for-hire. Mistaken identity turns to miscommunication as one awkwardly hilarious one night stand brings two lonely hearts together only to tear them apart. Can they overcome crazy first impressions, and will Brit ever be able to live with herself again after hiring John?

Xaviera Snow is an American author of steamy romance, comedic romance, and scintillating erotica. She's a wry wit, and unapologetic provocateur. Her turn-ons are progressive thinkers, self-deprecating word jugglers, and Rocky Road ice cream with a side of snark. Her turn offs include tunne- visionists, blind believers, people who never ask 'Why', and men who leave their socks on. (Gah! Please remove the socks!) She enjoys, strangely enough, news and politics, which she contends should never be watched either sober or clothed, and she loves to laugh, drive with the windows down and the music cranked up, and take chances.

A book that delivers in terms of its tags: Romantic, Humour and Erotica. It is a modern day adult farce once a popular genre with mistaken identities, compromising situations and in more stricter times literally caught with your trousers down.
The first thing I liked about this book is that it is written from a woman’s perspective. Brit is a successful banker and has foregone much and sacrificed a great deal to follow her career.
She is a great friend and it was enjoyable to read of their plans for an evening out and attitude to alcohol, having fun and sexual freedom. I still feel not enough has been written or accepted into U.K. culture to say that such behaviour is both healthy and natural.
She is celebrating a promotion and as a result of her progression in the financial institution her first task is to attend a conference in Las Vegas.
She takes her best friend who has previously acted as the fixer, PA of her colleague who can not attend this year.
The inference being in the world of banking and financial confidence can this newly appointed executive Brit with Kathy’s support win and sustain clients used to more male dominated environments.
I loved the ease of the writing that makes female interactions so natural and funny. I was convinced by the reality and sense that Brit having succeeded in her business goals should reflect on her emotional and physical needs.
I liked that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas but due to the cosmopolitan attitude and sexual norms encountered both women bring something back from the USA not envisaged when they set out to work hard and party harder.
The confusion, social norms subverted was hilarious. The sexual encounters were both good humoured and intense at times.
It demonstrated in a fictional account that life can begin at 40 for Brit. I hope others will read this short entertaining account with the spirit it is written with throughout. It is about getting the most out of life; not always making the right decisions but finding strength in all circumstances. Above all it is the story of female friendships that endure and support even in difficult situations.
I loved the drama in the club overheard and unavoidably involving some drag artists. Pure Vegas but delightfully witty and summing up why this is such a pleasurable read.

Cute, screwball, mistaken identity, comedy of errors, romance novella. Very light, no depth or angst to brood about, though Brit the heroine is feeling a bit past the age of desirability and in need of a jolt to get her back in the game. Jello shots seem to provide the necessary magic and then it's ALL HER!😜

Alcohol & mixups

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas supposedly. When Brit has too much alcohol and hires a male escort things go awry. She makes a mistake in thinking the guy that approached her table was the escort. J.D. is in Vegas for work and finds love that he didn't think he would ever find.

Brit has just received a promotion to department manager.  She finds out that she is going to have to go to a banking convention in Las Vegas.  They are sending Kathy with her as she has been with the previous manager in years past.

JD is attending the accountant convention at the same time with his bosses son Jesse.    They have attended their first day of meetings, went to eat, then went to the casino.  JD heads for his room since they have earlier meetings in the morning.

In the meantime, Brit & Kate have also attended their first days meetings and Kate talks Brit into a night of dancing.  Kate limits the number of shots she drinks do when the waitress brings little cups of jello she thinks they will help neutralize the alcohol.  Brit & Kate are dancing having a good time when  a man that looks like a Viking comes on the chance floor and starts dancing with Kate, Brit decided to go back to the hotel.

Brit finds a flyer for  a discreet escort service, decides to call and make a date for the evening.  While on the phone she decides she's hungry and goes to find s place to eat.  But runs into JD and thinks he's her escort.  They go to his room and the scene plays out.

The escapades begin.  If you want to know what happens read the book.  This is a quick read, you won't want to quit reading until you get to the end.  This is a very enjoyable well written book.
