NOTE: The novellas in this book have been previously published, but have undergone edits prior to re-release.
Four steamy dystopian novellas rereleased in one fantastic collection.
Raw Heat
Serena has spent her entire life in the underground, hiding with the rest of humanity from the werewolf plague above. Then she begins taking care of Connor—a werewolf the humans have captured to experiment on, in the hopes of uncovering a cure—and finds her entire belief system shaken.
Connor isn’t a vicious animal, hell-bent on the destruction of the human race. He’s kind, thoughtful, and above all—absolutely delicious. The feelings he’s starting to inspire are sending Serena out of control…lewd, filthy, glorious feelings, which could cost her job as a nurse. Not to mention her life.
Lust and love between a wolf and a human are strictly forbidden. But for Connor, Serena may be willing to break all the rules…
Almost Real
When Margot signs on to pose as one half of a married couple for the cloning company she works for, she doesn’t expect her partner to interest her in the slightest. It’s just a job—albeit one that comes with a fake marriage. To an undeniably sexy fake husband.
Sergei is an immense stone fortress, cold and calm and—worst of all—so compelling Margot can hardly stand it. She’s supposed to be protecting and maintaining the labs, but all she can think about is unearthing the man beneath the controlled façade and wrapping herself around him.
Even if the man she uncovers is far more than she ever bargained for.
Past Pleasures
No sex? No women?
When Kate agrees to a mad experiment with something as insane as time travel, she expects exactly what Professor Waites had suggested: dystopian nightmares and possible barbarians. So when she finds herself in a future where women no longer exist and the men have no idea what they've been missing, she can't seem to catch her breath. Especially when the men in question - the darkly handsome Tem, and his starkly beautiful companion Aley - are so curious and ready to learn everything she has to teach.
Including all the past pleasures they never knew existed.
The Horizon
When Quade swoops in to save his archenemy, Sol, from bloodthirsty Cybers, he doesn't expect to find himself almost torn apart, terrified beyond imagining and even worse - pumped full of some terrible drug that makes them both half-mad with lust.
Now they're trapped on Sol's tiny spaceship, and the tension between them is rising. Every argument threatens to spill over into passion, every glance and touch is agony.
Charlotte Stein is the RT and DABWAHA nominated author of over fifty short stories, novellas and novels. When not writing deeply emotional and intensely sexy books, she can be found eating jelly turtles, watching terrible sitcoms and occasionally lusting after hunks. I saw this book on BookTok from a reviewer that said they didn’t like it, and listed a few reasons. All those reasons sounded like something I’d probably like!
Finding a new-to-me author that writes like this is so exciting. Especially one that I’ve never read before, so I’m binging. I plan to re-read the ones I liked and do full reviews then.
Raw Heat: 4/5 stars Post-apocalypse. Werewolves/humans. Phew, that was some lusty writing.
Almost Real: 5/5 stars Marriage for work. Clones/sexy bodyguard. The angsty foreplay is SUPER intense!
Past Pleasures : 3.75/5 M/F/M. Time travel to the future. I really needed an epilogue, but the story was fun.
The Horizon : 2.5/5 Space battles. Plus-sized lovers. This one was odd but still steamy.
Everything by Charlotte Stein is raw and honest and sexy and boy could I go on. Serious question, where is all the erotic sci fi? Seriously? I need more of the genre in romance and erotica so badly. Each of these stories had something sexy and futuristic and I haven’t seen anything resembling these stories to be honest. I can’t wait for Stein’s next book or collection of stories or even one page flash fiction if she wants to go there. I will read a thousand page book if she is ever inclined to go THERE. Anyway, if you love romance, space, the supernatural, dystopias and threesomes and so many sexy times then you need this book NOW!
An eclectic mix of dystopic novellas, with my favorite being Almost Real, a sci-fi marriage of convenience story that is filled with so much angst and slow-burning yearning I thought I would explode.
I really wanted an epilogue for Past Pleasures, so we could see Tem and Aley's reactions!!! Of all the stories in the collection I think this one had the most potential for a full length story. What happened to society to get it to what's happened in Tem and Aley's time? How do they move on from there? What happens when ANYONE finds out about Kate? SO much potential here!!!
Charlotte Stein has an amazing way of grabbing me right by the heart by creating characters who are mired in self-doubt, but find the perfect other half of themselves. These stories are like that.
Then there's the fourth story in the collection, which had me laughing out loud. I can't wait to tell someone that they are "made up of ass." Hilarious.
Lots of angst and living in the head of each main character. Steamy sex. Not much background or things happening outside the character’s relationship(s). Exactly as expected from this author.
