Well, an interesting story that brings the qualities of good teaching into the dimensions of ghosts and malevolent spirits.

A short story that presents the stresses and strains of a hardworking teacher who may be working too hard were it not for the fact that the apparitions are talking to him taking on a visible form, wanting to learn for themselves and thus mentor his struggling students.

I guess within a ghost story all bets are off and the author can use their imagination fully and forge new rules and conditions. The writer here is comfortable in this genre and equally familiar within the confines of the education system.

I really like the characters but struggled with the rules controlling the ghosts and their overall motives and purpose in their extra-curricular enterprises. That the long suffering teacher embraces them and incorporates their needs within his own timetable and workload speaks highly of Mr Fuggins, Freddie. This aspect elevates the book.

His additional effort seems to bear fruit as certain students excel in test papers but all is not what it seems and the new order slowly unwinds.

Scope to think and delight in the afterlife. A short story so nothing lost in the brief reading time required to enjoy this tale and plenty to be gained in valuing education and how we deal with death.
