The SCION SAGA SERIES resumes with Adam struggling to pick up the pieces of his youth after having lost both his biological and adoptive fathers to the Iksha. Discovering that someone he'd once despised may now be the only living link to his biological mother, encourages him to fight aggressively through psychological counseling while Carly's robbed of her human right to grieve her parents due to her leadership role among the Descendants, though her budding relationship with Jo provides much needed solace.
With the Iksha momentarily neutralized, the Descendants have bravely decided to join life on the surface by moving from their underground safe house in International Falls to Piure. The biokenretic Hexacuh casted around the City, meant to protect them, proves to be a double-edged sword when a lurking evil is discovered trapped within the City limits.
As graduation approaches, many teen woes weigh heavily on Adam's mind, seemingly causing it to fracture into dual personalities. After his symptoms grow beyond his control, Carly leaves in search of answers but returns with a cure that's beyond what anyone could've expected, forcing Adam to face a part of himself that he never thought he'd live to see.
Cālix is the published author of the Young Adult Sci-Fi/Fantasy series, the Scion Saga [Opaque, Split Adam, Specular]. She's a certified paralegal and a member of SFWA and RWA.
In 'Scion Saga's' thrilling sequel, the narrative plunges further than 'Opaque,' broadening the universe surrounding Adam and Carly. The sequel offers substantial character growth for both protagonists, as well as the supporting cast, propelling the storyline ahead. Initially, Adam's character was an enigma to me, but as the tale unfolded, I began to grasp his complexities and even developed a sense of empathy towards him.
The writing skills of the author are flawless and I was engaged throughout the book without getting bored. The World-Building was quite captivating to read. It is filled with action and adventure and I really had a great time Reading it. I will definitely recommend this book. Grab your copy today.
The second installment of the Scion Saga Series, Split Adam, definitely felt way more YA than the first. But, if you loved the first, I think you'll still be excited to read the second.
This book was just a tad less action-packed than the first novel, as the Descendants all get to know each other and head to school with Carly and Adam. All of them are faced with challenges, of both the human and Descendant kind.
Adam seems to be losing his mind - has he just lost too much and done too much. Carly fights to save the boy she loves while leading the Descendants and grieving the loss of both of her parents. Others have lost parents, other family members, and have left home to follow Carly and Adam. Adam and his mom are trying to learn how to live this new life, with new weird powers.
How will they all survive all of these changes and deal with prom and graduation? Those are hard enough for regular high school seniors. I really enjoy the interactions between the varous characters, whether they're friendships, rivalries, romantic, or familial relationships, the author has done a good job. This book seemed to focus a lot more on developing the characters, the relationships, and the high school experience. It also developed some new relationships, and brought out some new, surprising characters and story arcs.
The way these teens are allowed to live with each other seemed a bit unrealistic to me, but the situation is extreme and it is made clear that there is no R-Rated action happening. And I feel very much like the dad in "10 Things I Hate About You," saying that, but I'm from the South and it's not how we did things when I was growing up. It's also a fantasy story, even if sometimes urban fantasy blurs that line so well.
I personally enjoyed this book more than the first one, because I didn't know that the taboo subject in the first book was uncomfortable for me to explore. Now I do, so I feel it was a good experience for me. The taboo subjects in this one weren't ones that were uncomfortable for me, and are very common where I grew up.
Who's It For?
This is a young adult novel, but it's the type that adults will also enjoy. It deals with some taboo and mature themes, so I would advise caution with younger teens. There is a lot of violence, disturbing imagery, and sexual discussion/innuendo, so keep that in mind.

Here is my review for Split Adam by Calix Leigh-Reign
This was a fantastic follow up story and I really enjoyed reading it although it’s pretty intense. The plotting was excellent and the writing was beautifully done to draw the reader into the story. I found the book hard to put down and I wanted to carry on reading to find out what happened next. I found most of the chapters are long ones although some are split into smaller parts. I like the cover design of the book and find it very striking. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series as I have really gotten into this series and I’m enjoying it very much.

I'm really enjoying this series. I love the cover. Full of action from the start. I do love Adam and Carly. I couldn't put it down. Dylan I didn't know what I thought or felt about him. Twisty and gripping. I did like the others in the group Val, Sage, Krill, Ksenyia, Evan, Jo. Vikki grew on me. I did like the pictures in the book. I did like the ending and I can't wait for the next book. 5*.
Split Adam is book 2 in the Scion Saga Series by Calix Leigh-Reign and it was so good. It’s a little bit slower than Opaque, but we learn more about Adam, Carly and even Adam’s mom.
Carly starts to realize something is wrong with Adam like he is losing his mind because he is forgetting moments of time, things and events. He isn’t acting like himself. Carly is on a mission to figure out what is going on with Adam all while still grieving the loss of her parents. Adam and his mom Joanne are bonding and getting to know each other again. Adam is still learning his powers while his mom soon learns that she may have some special abilities of her own. Their lives are so crazy with everything going on, but they have to factor in their high school prom and graduation.
Calix did such a great job with the characters and how she lets them be teenagers even though they are dealing with adult issues. I love how strong she made Carly, but with a loving heart. Adam is unhinged at times and his jealousy of Carly is too much. Though this book is slower in action it makes up for it by focusing more on relationships, character development, and not letting them miss the high school experience. I can’t wait to read Specular. Thank you to Love Book Tour and Calix Leigh-Reign for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.
After the first book I was not sure how the second book would be. I did enjoy the first one but unfortunately Adam’s personality was just not a hit and it made me a bit ambivalent if I am honest.Thankfully book two to me is a lot better than the first and we get a lot of character development and growth, particularly for Adam but he still irks me a little bit. That said Carly and Vikki are brilliant and more than make up for it.
I do enjoy the world building and magic in the book. The writing is generally good and enjoyable again making it easier to read. The only other issue I have is the relationship between Adam and Carly which does seem a tad, well a lot toxic at times. It does make it a bit awkward to leave. Still this was a solid 3 to 3.5 stars I have rounded up to 4. I would say if you plan to read this you need to read the first one to fully understand what is happening and appreciate Adam a little bit more.
What a brilliant follow on to Opaque! It starts right where Opaque left off, which I love! This book has excitement and mystery from the start. The mystery with the vial of serum, the weird attitude of Adam towards Carly and the apparent love between JoAnn and Evan, what is going on?!
This book grips you early on and I wanted more! I still love the characters and feel that their character building is done well. You really feel for them and feel like you know them. I'm still curious about Afrax and the Desendants abilities and cannot wait to get stuck into book three!
So much happens in this book and it keeps you engaged and wanting the best for them, I don't know how Specular - book three - will top this one but it'll be exciting none the less! Bring it on! I still love Sage and the others at Afrax, they need their own backstories or character building, maybe a spin off coming in the future?
This is the second book in the Scion Saga, and I honestly feared this would be a let down after reading Opaque, but actually I think it’s better. That said, if you read Split Adam as a standalone book, you will be hopelessly lost within half a chapter. You do need to read these books as a series.
The plot delves deeper than Opaque allowing for some great expansion of the world in which Adam and Carly live. There is a good amount of character development for Carly and Adam, and also for secondary characters, which helps carry the story forwards. I wasn’t sure if I liked Adam at the beginning, but I did get to understand him, and even feel some empathy for him.
Overall, I enjoyed this well written, enjoyable, second book in the Scion Saga, which I’m happy to recommend to supernatural fantasy readers. I gave Split Adam, by Câlix Leigh-Reign, four stars.
I absolutely LOVED reading this book.. Once again i was sucked in straight away, it gripped and obsorbed me within its very pages!
I still love the Adam and Carly duo.. enjoying the way they deal with things together, although feel carly was trying to distance herself from everyone and do everything herself like shes some sort of powerful being (which she kinda is but still feel like shes stronger within the team, where everyone has there strengths).
I really enjoy the the powers that all the characters possess and how they use them. I feel that the story line flows nicely and keeps you gripped all the way through.. I liked the twist of Adam and Dylan and thought it was different..
Literally can't wait to start the third book to this series!! Also I had to buy the second book in physical copy but its not due for a few weeks yet..
I read the first and second books one after the other for review purposes and to be perfectly honest I wasn’t overly impressed with the first book, I enjoyed it but there wasn’t anything about it that blew me away, this concerned me because I couldn’t see it getting any better. However, upon starting the second book I found it had a different feel to it which I liked!
In my opinion this cannot be read as a stand-alone, if I hadn’t read the first book then I would have been completely lost.
I definitely enjoyed this one much more than the first, the characters are presented and developed well and I found this to be a sort of offbeat, poignant and often playful continuation of the first book, and I have to say that I do feel compelled to read the third instalment!
I thoroughly enjoyed re-immersing myself into Adams world. It took me a few chapters to remember who was who and what had happened previously. (That's a me issue, not a book issue.)
Adam continues to grow, both as a person, and a 'Descendant', learning how to use and control his powers. I loved seeing Carly and Jo-Ann's relationship grow as well. I think most girls would want a mother-in-law like her!
The story is well paced with plenty of action, but also lots of 'quiet' moments where we get to know the characters better. This book continued the story from the first in the series really well.
Calix has managed to build a solid and believable fantasy world which fits seamlessly into the real world we inhabit.
This is the second book in the series and I really need to read the first one to fully understand the characters past. I felt quite lost reading the book. I thought there were too many characters and trying to remember everyone and names of places I was puzzled and this made it hard for me to connect with their emotions or understand where the story was going. I will be reading the series from the beginning because I've read some great reviews about the first book so I can make a better judgement.
However, I loved the cover to this book and it would of caught my eye on the shelves. And the blurb grabbed my attention instantly I was looking forward to reading this book.
I’ll start of by saying I’d definitely recommend for you to read the first book Opaque before diving into this one as you get to know all the characters in the first book. Split Adam jumps straight into it and I think you’d be a little confused if you hadn’t read Book 1.
Book 2 of the Opaque series follows Adam and Carly and their group of descendants trying to find a way to protect themselves and still live above ground.
There is a lot of character development which is much needed for a personality like Adams. Carly is just as fierce as ever and i personally love how she finds the time to daydream about books.
I really enjoyed reading the chapter that featured the Dagaal Tournament, it was really fun to learn about all their abilities and seeing different partnerships work together- Vickie is such a bad a$$.
I absolutely cannot wait for book 3 while Split Adam answered a few questions I had from Opaque, Specular will answer what we all need to know… Mainly what are the Iksha up to? And why have they been so quiet??
After the first book, I absolutely needed to see where the story would go next and Leigh-Reign did not disappoint in Split Adam. Let's start with the exploration of the secondary characters in the book. I was captivated by the natural way the author explored the other characters without taking away from Carly and Adam. In Book 2, Adam explores his insecurities and learns a different way to love himself, Carly, and his mother. I don't want to dig too deep and spoil the book for anyone. I'll just say that it's spectacular and I cannot wait until book 3 releases.
I'll admit I'm unsure how to review this book! I feel like I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this book! While I enjoyed the premise and the world building/lore in the book there was something just a bit off for me! I found non of the characters likeable and ones I liked in the first book I didn't really care for and really disliked Adam and Carlys relationship I found it really toxic and possessive. I'm unsure if I'll continue with the series as I'm interested in what happens in the sense of do they catch the bad guys but not what happens to the characters!
The second in the Scion Saga picks up much more swiftly, in part thanks to having got to know the vast amount of characters in book 1, and in part because there's a lot more going on in this book. I really liked the development of the relationships between all the Descendents, the themes explored seemed fitting with their maturing. A couple of the threads from book 1, which had been left open, have now been answered, and it seems to be setting up for a final showdown in the next book. There's lots of action and excitement that made the pages fly by. Can't wait to read the next one!
Adam and Carly are back in book 2 of the Scion Saga, Split Adam, by Calix Leigh-Reign.
I’m still finding myself in a love-hate relationship with Adam. He had some redeeming moments in this book, but I think I’m a grudge holder, so I’m still not 100% in Adam’s corner on this one. But… I see potential.
This book felt more like intermission during a play. We had time to leave our seats, mingle with the other people in the crowd, watch relationships develop and learn more about the powers each character has. I was glad about Jo’s role, and Carly continued to be the driving force behind the story for me. I don’t want to give too much away, because the parts I liked best were spoilery, so you’ll just have to check it out for yourself!
Stay tuned for next month’s review of book 3 and the continuation of the Scion Saga!
