A quickfire read, bringing a crickety and newsy twist to the familiar rom-com genre. Bad boy cricketer rediscovers good girl marketer, who was also his childhood friend and sparks fly.
You know the girl and boy finally get together but the glue is really the setting in which it is played out. Brand endorsements, celebrity brawls, CSR initiatives, media gossip, gropey Dilliwalas, dildaar Dilliwalas - all find place and bring a smile often enough.

This was fairly middling book. I must admit I was eager to read this book after reading the reviews and checking out the ratings here and in Amazon and was disappointed that it didn't match that expectations

The author's writing style contains liberal use of regional language, not that there's anything wrong with it but otherwise I had zero problems with her style of writing. The chemistry between the leads was great, the girl camaraderie was enjoyable but my problem was with the storyline. The so-called history/past incident that transpired when the leads were barely teenagers felt serious beyond age. I do not know of any normal teenagers who discuss aspects of love of their lives with the girl's father and the father taking them seriously and trying to keep them apart with a flimsy excuse. It was filmy and unbelievable. If i were their dad, I would have told them to focus on their studies and career and told them to worry about other stuff later. This aspect for me derailed the remaining book because the whole meet up in their adult life is overshadowed by this incident in the past!

And for a book with a cricketer, I was looking forward to one match or something around it and there was nothing. So we have a bad boy cricketer (who is secretly not a bad-boy) who is out of action for disciplinary reasons. Even those weren't interesting enough, it was mentioned as passing references and the whole focus was on that one misunderstanding of their teenage life leading up to where they are now.

The saving graces were the good humor, the snarky banter, the chapters with the Trio, their playful and innocent phases of their childhood. Rest was just romantic drama, just not my cup of tea.

This book was definitely a fun read. It was a complex, layered book filled with relationships that seemed dysfunctional or aloof yet connected together in threads and had strong bonds with each other which diminished over time or due to lack of proper communication amongst themselves. I like the character of the protagonist Nidhi who is trying to create her career yet is going through personal upheaval on meeting Vikram after twelve years. There are multiple emotions that Nidhi goes through yet she holds on to her personality which is strong until she breaks down and shows her vulnerable side as well. The urban context and setting makes it relatable. The strong bond of friendship between Risha, Tanvi and Nidhi despite their diverse personalities makes it even more relatable, most of us have those 1/2 friends who know everything about our lives yet do not know all about our lives and our experiences in childhood. I could not put this book down and was excited seeing this after reading The Wedding Photographer. I would not classify this as a chick-flick, there is much more to the book and the layered characters and their weaknesses and strengths make it interesting as well as an urban read.

Hats off to the author for portraying Nidhi's character and yet showing her life differently and focussing on her individuality and making her a real, relatable character who is trying to make a mark in the world. Wishing her all the best and this definitely makes fiction exciting and fun. This book is far from frivolous and a must read.

I've read 'The Wedding Photographer' by Sakshama as well, and loved it so much, I was eagerly awaiting this book. Trust me, it is no less. The same wit, quirk, emotions and sharp observations, though in an entirely new setting. I loved how characters from her previous book were interspersed here, and seemed no different than how I remembered them. I love her coherent writing style, which makes the book practically unputdownable. Even if you are a new reader, you'll like it all the same. There will inevitably be a few moments when you will end up laughing out loud. I think there's finally hope for readers who have been looking for good books in the Indian romantic comedy genre.
Do give this breezy read a shot, recommended!

Not at all as per my expectations. I expected a lot after the 1st novel but this failed me in many ways. I apologise to the author if I am being a tad too harsh but it's a rip-off. I could see right through it. I wonder how other readers couldn't, for their are limited books of this genre (Indian romcoms) and if you have read even a single Anuja Chauhan novel, this book will lose it's novelty. And especially to Chauhan fans, warning, tread carefully. So through this review I have achieved the impossible. Without mentioning a single detail of characters, subplots and quotes, I have given the biggest spoiler. That is, if you have read and loved and cherished Anuja Chauhan's Pricey or Bittora or Zoya Factor, this is exactly that, except blended in a mixey and partially so.

Devoured this crickety romance real quick!
It's an easy breezy, quirky read with affable characters. I loved the raffish, scintillating chemistry between the lead characters - Vikram and Nidhi. The fact that this book was about childhood sweethearts falling for each other at a later point in life made it more appealing to me.
Sakshama is not only a fabulous writer but a beautiful person inside out. I am looking out for her upcoming book. Meanwhile, let me get hands on her debut novel. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors!

I finished it within 24 hours. It is un-put-down-able, light, humorous, witty and romantic read. It made me weep at page 190 and grin furiously at page 250.

Loved Dhariwal's writing style, i could detect the cheesiness of a few dialogues inspired by bollywood's romances. Added Dhariwal to my autobuy author list.

Sakshama is one of my favorite authors from
across the border and I just can't miss any of her books. Her writing style is sassy and her stories are so relatable. I fell in love with her first book the wedding photographer and was anxiously awaiting for her next book and she totally blew me away yet again with her gorgeous descriptives , spot on dialogue, brilliant characters and storyline . I finished the book in a matter of hours with such a wonderful plot and writing made it impossible to put it down. The protagonists are great and their romance even greater. There is something warm , sweet and fuzzy about childhood romances and sweethearts and Sakshama has captured it so perfectly in this book from the innocence of childhood bonding to the complications when one reaches adulthood. I had fell in love with Vikram and Nidhi characters in the previous story "The wedding photographer " and absolutely fell in love with them in this story Vikram character was so multifaceted and multi dimensional that there was no way you couldn't fall for him and Nidhi had a everyday normal girl feel you could see yourself in her and connect to her and identify with her dilemmas . This book was a beautiful , emotional , fun and absolutely fabulous love story which made me laugh with its witty dialogue and funny situation and to top it off brilliant writing and strong characters. I am literally sad that the story ended so soon I felt like I wanted more of these characters specially since I had been waiting for so long for this new book. I am now hoping to read Rohan and Nitisha story and Shortys story. I hope Sakshama writes her next story soon and doesn't makes us wait too long for the next story or I might have to ask Vikram for #vikramkigaliyan and that might make her gives us the next story soon. Anxiously awaiting for the next book. Definitely this book is a must read!!

Disclaimer: A Huge Thanks to Penguin India for providing a review copy of this wonderful book. But the thought, opinions and feelings expressed in the review are entirely my own!

Sakshma was my first ever #authorsigning (TYSM to @penguinindia for that opportunity) – and I fell in love with her almost instantly. Not only is she adorable, she was this cute little human that I wish I could have picked her up and carried her with me home *winks* - in totally a cutesy stalker way, ofcourse :P

But I had loved LOVED The Wedding Photographer (Read My Review ) – and my expectations from her second book were already very high, even before meeting her in person! :D

In The Wedding Photographer, she gave us the brooding hero Arjun. (who still remains my boo!); and a wonderfully sassy heroine, Risha – but here’s the twist in the tale – Man of Her Match is sort of like a prequel to Sakshama’s debut book! You meet Vikram and Aditi in The Wedding Photographer; but they are already an established couple there, so I  was not that curious about them; to be honest, I was more invested in Arjun anyways! :P

But as usual, Sakshama delivers a romance meant for Indian Hearts! <3

Vikram is the bad boy of Cricket (and I do love me some bad boys!) while Nidhi is a good girl, though a little loud mouth! Told in two warring perspectives of past and the present – we see two story arcs coming together flawlessly in this book!

Not only was it so freaking enjoyable to a Delhi girl, you have to know that I fell in love with my city all over again!

Best friends in childhood, now sworn enemies – Vikram and Nidhi have to work together on a campaign; and even though they swear that they hate each other; their past feelings end up coming back to the front, especially when they start working together! :D

I love reading romances; YAASS! I love me some HEA; but I rarely read romances by Indian authors for somehow they lack the punch. Sakshama is the only author to have broken that barrier – and I think, she has now made it so that I automatically end up buying all of her future books as well! <3

It’s an absolute treat for lovers of breezy romance. It’s an beautiful, emotional, funny take on love with such colorful characters like the trio added in. I truly enjoyed the book and finished it in 1 sitting, which I think will happen with most of us who decide to read this…and read this you must!! Cute characters, funny settings and great love- all ingredients for a good read. There were many moments were I was laughing out loud. It’s just a shame that it got over so soon…after living Risha’s and Nidhi’s love stories, will have to wait for Shorty’s story now to complete the trio…though I hope Sakshama doesn’t make me wait too long.

Just like Sakshama's previous book, it was difficult to stop once I started reading. Her wit, the build up of the plot and the simple, unassuming manner in which she writes keeps one hooked on. Her expression of emotion through the characters is extremely relatable yet the story takes us away from reality. Waiting for the third book already!

I grew up in the '90s and this novel was a pleasant reminder of the good old days. My favorite part is the Nidhi Marwah diary bit. I mean didn't most 13 year-olds have a diary that had a standard line on every alternate page thar read...
Dear Diary,
Today was the worst day of my life! The author has kept the story real and that for me stands out.
The emotions are raw and the characters vulnerability is well described. A fun romantic read with just the right amount of drama.

I don't read books by Indian authors because I don't know... maybe because I've tried so many and they somehow didn't live up to the hype so I am always wary of them and always stay out of that section. Then I was assigned to read The Wedding Photographer, Dhariwal's debut book and lo and behold she has a fan!

The way Dhariwal writes is just so easy and flowing, there is nothing over the top or absolute unnecessary and her books just suck you right into the story and make you love all the characters, doesn't matter if they are the main or secondary. Trust me, you will ALWAYS end up falling in love with them.

And when Dhariwal writes swoon she means business because you will fall so hard and smile this HUGE smile!

This one was way better than the previous book by the author. After the first book I wasn't expecting much from this one and I think that if the reason this book was beyond my expectations for me.
The characters are almost the same and they are amazing.
After this I can surely say that the author has improved her writing fast and very amazingly.

First of all, I just need to say that I loved this book a lot. It totally uplifted my mood. I bought this book months ago, and I don’t know why but somehow I was never too eager to read this. And now I totally regret not reading this the day I bought it. Its a lovely book and I was so engrossed in reading that I finished the whole book in one go.

After reading the book I am totally in love with Vikram. He is so adorable and so funny and sooooo cute. What I loved most about the book is the friendship between Vikram and Nidhi. The way they always supported each other and wouldn’t mind throwing some punches, just to protect their best friend simply moved me. Mind you, it’s not only Vikram who is ready to defend his friend but Nidhi can also punch anyone who would try to say anything rubbish about Vikram.

I have a hypothetical question to you guys. If given a choice who would you choose your best friend or love of your life? Very difficult question, right! But now imagine your best friend and love of your life is the same person. Very few of us are that lucky. So imagine how would anyone feel, if you get to lose that one person.

That is what this book is about. It’s about about love and friendship and the pain you go through on losing your best friend. This book is so simple yet so beautiful. I am in love with this book and I am sure if you will read this book, you will love it too.

Okay! Loved, Loved and Loved this ♥️

Rating: 4.5 🌠
Pick it up if you want to read a perfect Desi romance with kind of tom boy FMC & again kind of playboy MMC

Another Book of Sakshama Puri Dhariwal I enjoyed so much reading which I ended up finishing in almost 4 hours (☆▽☆)

Nidhi is just so hard to resist, from being ambitious in what she wants to being so in love with everything in her life. We get to see her as an adorable kid who just falls in friendship with Vikram to a responsible adult who can't just stop falling for him again (but this time in love with him)

Vikram is actually so fun to know. He definitely doesn't come as a playboy in any of instances. I just thought when I read the synopsis I thought of a different storyline than the one that was written. So yeah he was cute, obviously handsome & somehow his emotions were so strong that made me feel for him ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ

The story starts from their budding friendship, from having their back to fighting for each other. I didn't have a feeling they fell in love with each other at age 14, might be because it was not emphasized strongly but they did care & had a beautiful friendship that just makes them fall for each other after years. The moment they meet again, the lingering tensions & stares & so much teasing it was so fun to read. That phase of their relationship has my heart ♡(> ਊ <)♡

Desi Elements ✅

Which I obviously loved & adored (✿ ♡‿♡)

And reading about cricket even though I don't have much knowledge about the sports it just has a separate emotional connection. I guess growing up in the nation that just gives so much love to that sport does that me (๑˙❥˙๑)

I was a little disappointed with Nidhi's father for doing what he did but at least he realised & it didn't turn out to be a toxic relationship. I just kept on laughing when Vikram & he had a conversation toward the end.

This book fell short in terms addressing the sensitive topics like it did in "All that Sizzles". It had the potential to talk about them & it was intertwined into the story so it would have really made this a great read.

Vikram is one of the most famous cricketer in the country not only for his playing but also for his temper and bad reputation. After being banned for 5 matches he has to improve his image . He decides to become ambassador for News today education campaign but he has no idea he will meet Nidhi there. Nidhi is Brand manager of News today this campaign is first step towards her dream. She is not going to screw it up because of Vikram. When they meet childhood memories along with old chemistry comes alive again. Can Vikram and Nidhi put their stormy history behind them? Will their partnership have a second innings?

I loved this book. It was perfect. Nidhi was strong minded and caring character. Vikram was a charming, headstrong loyal character. I don't even know why I loved them both this much but I really loved them. The side characters were also amazing. The trio was so great. I loved them how they supported Nidhi and Vikram. I love relationships in this book. Nidhi's friends were also so great. I loved the romance. I loved the humor. Their flashbacks were so great. Their was just so good chemistry in the book. I loved it.

If you are looking for a second chance romance, great friendship, best side characters, good relationship, teasing, Humor. I highly highly recommend this book. Just read this book I loved it .

This is the first Indian-published book I have read after 2 years. To be honest, I am quite surprised at how much I enjoyed the book and delved into it completely. Looks like I have finally found an Indian author whose writing style is exactly my reading vibe. I just loved the Hindi Phrases used here along with the 'Dilwalo Ki Dilli' references. Moreover, it is a Cricket romcom which gives it extra brownie points, the characters deeply resemble Anushka and Virat to me. Vikram's aggression and Delhilite persona and Nidhi's Tomboyoish the passionate and amiable personality, strongly remind me of Virat and Anushka.

It could have been 5 stars that I was sure of but the third act breakup messes it up. The fact that Nidhi didn't trust him over the tabloid articles, made it even more frustrating. To me I loved Nidhi but I can't help but feel agitated at that moment. For God's Sake, you knew that guy for 12 years and still you don't believe him. He was telling you that he loves you, you are his one and only, and he wore his heart on the sleeve for you but you just let your harsh judgemental thoughts get over you. I was disappointed. Because for me if there is no trust between two people, then there is no healthy and successful relationship.

Apart from the last 40 pages, it was an excellent read that I enjoyed thoroughly. Can't wait to read Risha's book !!!!!!!!!

XOXO

The book is a wonderfully written romance that explores the story of how 2 people, who fell in love as kids, get a chance to rekindle the romance when their paths cross again. What worked for me in the story was the fact that the plot is kept simple and no unnecessary details have been added to create complications in the lives of our protagonists. The premise is well executed and you see the sparks of attraction between Nidhi and Vikram throughout the story. I liked how the past is revealed slowly and each reveal unravels a specific piece of the past. The scenes between Nidhi and Vikram are well-written and were quite enjoyable. I liked that the tension between Nidhi and her father is explored as a part of the plot right till the very end. The climax is well executed, and I loved how she presented the entire scene.

The characters are well crafted and their character arcs are nicely executed. I liked the way the development of Nidhi’s character happens throughout the story. He relationship with her friends, father and Vikram highlighted some very different shades of her that made the story interesting to read. Vikram’s character as a famous cricketer madly in love comes across beautifully and I loved how his story has been shown, and the fact that what is written in the press could be far from the truth.

This one was bad. I really enjoyed the first one, and liked Nidhi & Vikram, so I had high expectations for this one, I was really disappointed. Shouldn't this book be the first book in the series? Idk why author decided to make it second book because everything happening in this one happens ages before the first one.

The reason I disliked this book so much is the FMC and the story line. The FMC has no backbone or standards whatsoever. She never stood up for herself in front of her father, she did it towards the end but she still didn't act strong in that confrontation. I believe she never would have told her father about kuku if Vikram wasn't there. Also, another thing I hated about her is her values & stands. She didn't trust Vikram when he said he's not a playboy. Fine. She didn't trust him when he said Natasha is not his girlfriend. Fine. Why the fuck are you kissing him then you dumb hoe? Why would you kiss a man you think is in relationship with someone else. And if you so don't wanna be the next conquest of his, put some boundaries.
The story overall was very boring. I hate her father. I also should've dnf'ed it earlier.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for the hot cricketer and salty best friend
I wanted to love this book more than I did... The premise was spectacular. What's not to love about a second chance, enemies to lovers romance involving a bad ass media marketer and a sexy pro-cricket player? Not much, it hit most of the right spots. The characters were great, and the chemistry was there. I think the problem(for me, YMMV) was that there were plenty of sparks and smoke, but no fire. I will say that the banter between all the characters was witty and fun, and I LOVED the extra-parental trio that Nidhi had. Every time they were on the page I smiled. I also liked the writing style, it felt like watching a bollywood movie complete with miscommunication, at least one terrible male love interest, difficult parents with a heart of gold, and a happy ending.
I recommend this to anyone who loves a bollywood rom-com, and closed door/low spice romance.

Ms. Dhariwal, if you ever read this, can you please never stop writing.
I have read all three of her books and honestly can’t decide which one I love more. What a fantastic little love story. Short and crisp and absolutely to the point. No excessively flowery language, no cumbersome details, just sheer genius is how I would describe her works.
The last 2 romance novels I read, I found myself snoozing through. But this author doesn’t let you snooze for a second and instead gets you soo involved in her short and sweet love stories that you can’t help but ooh and aah at every page.
Loved this installment just as much and both the central characters as well. Feisty Nidhi and Handsome Vikram make for such a fairytale couple.
Please adapt her books into a series or movies.
Absolutely amazing.
Must read Indian romances for sure.

This was so hilariously bad. The author tried so hard to make the MCs like Americans living in India but failed badly. No Indian girl brought up in a conservative house (and every single one of her friends too) guzzles alcohol like that, that too when she has to take her dad's permission for just staying late at work. (She's 26 btw, not 6). Bewdi kahin ki :/

And the so called misunderstanding, her dad is soooo strict but FMC at 14 years of age, tells him she loves the neighbor boy. (Yes, using the word 'love') and the dad in turn tells the MMC she hates you. This good for nothing fellow (MMC) believes him and that's it. If at that age, I had dared to say the word love in front of my Indian dad, he would have left hand prints on my face first and then broken the front teeth of the neighbor next.

I had enjoyed 'The Wedding Photographer', Dhariwal's first book, so I started this with high expectations. And it is enjoyable, but I found myself skimming pages towards the end because I found it predictable. I couldn't read it all in one sitting, so maybe that contributed towards the feeling of disenchantment. And also, it is difficult to read an entire plot centred around an issue that could be resolved with one conversation. But compared with some other romance writers I could think of, Dhariwal's books are promising, and I'll probably read her next book as well.

This another romcom of the year for me. I was given this in a giveaway and unfortunately didn't get a chance to read it till now.

Its another breezy read which you can finish it while waiting for your flight/TRAIN/BUS. Vikram is unapologetic brash cricketer who loves his childhood sweetheart and noway can get away from her. It's a nice built up but feel its a it overstreched. We need a bit more tight noose over imagination..

A simple love story of Nidhi Marwah a journalist & Vikram a hot-headed cricket player who shares a past. I like the way the author narrates the story by including a fun banter between Nidhi and her friends. I was surprised to see Risha the protagonist in Sakshama's previous novel The Wedding Photographer I am eagerly waiting for many more books from Sakshama Puri Dhariwal. I just love her simple writing style and understanding & the plot devoid of unnecessary drama.

3.5/5 stars. Cricket romance.

This was my first ever indian romance and my first cricket romance. It was cute. Vikram was dreamy, but that was probably because I kept picturing him as Virat Kohli. Its a quick read. My one gripe is the westernization. What's with the green eyes and brown hair? They're indians. Give them black hair. Especially as kids. At least for the adults I can accept dyeing.

6/10 might read again. (Physical book not ebook)

It’s a fast read, characters are likable and plot of childhood sweethearts reuniting is also good.. but there are so many cliche moments and the whole drama happens because of communication gap.. which seemed blah.. unnecessary use of heavy words doesn’t make novel great.. could have been DNF for me but I just wanted to see how they clear out the confusion at the end.

My favorite line - dad saying to his daughter “because no one messes with you and gets away with it “
