Ethan has spent his entire life not wanting to admit that he’s gay. He didn’t feel like he had a choice. His mother has been clear, since he was a child, that she wouldn’t tolerate what she deemed deviant behavior. However, on the very day of his engagement dinner with Rachel, he realizes he can’t pretend any longer. When he tries to call off the wedding, though, Rachel hints that she’s known all along he was gay and threatens to kill him if Ethan does anything that jeopardizes their engagement. Compelled to start his life anew and be true to himself, Ethan seeks shelter in his grandmother’s house, the only place he’s always felt happy and safe. It’s in this heartening background that he runs into Daniel, the son of the former property’s caretaker. Daniel is a lifelong fantasy of Ethan and someone he hasn’t seen in over thirteen years. Dan has grown into a big, strong man, a man’s man whom Ethan simply can’t resist. Caught between a hurricane of new emotions and desires, his smothering mother, and Rachel’s threats, Ethan will have to find the strength to battle for his happiness. James spends most of his time looking at his computer screen, trying to summon the magical words that make the ingredients for a great story. He dreams about being able to move people and becoming a great writer one day.
He writes contemporary gay romance and erotica but he wants to write about much more. His mind is filled with sci-fi gadgets, swords, wizards and dragons and he has trouble trying to choose one theme. Maybe one day we’ll read something starring sinewy heroes battling giant dragons in tight pants. But the romance will always be there. And the abs. And the happy endings – James is a sucker for them.
James draws inspiration from everyday life, books, movies, songs, pictures and much more. Almost everything can ignite his desire to write but not all will end up on his stories. James is an indie author who relies on friends and a growing base of lovely beta readers to help him with his stories, ensuring that each book is better than the previous one.
Whenever this author has a book release i'm always excited to see what we're going to get. In this we meet Ethan & Dan. Ethan who's mother is an over bearing, homophobic, money loving woman that does not care at all about Ethan's feelings. For her it's all about how her friends in her social circle and keeping up appearances. Then we've got Dan who's having to swallow humble pie and go back to his roots in a way. While neither are openly out as gay, Ethan is the one who hides it more so than Dan. What follows is a fantastic journey where we see Ethan realise he an no longer live a lie and hurt others even though this puts his life in danger. This really was, yet again a fantastically written story with, yet again, a believable plot. I though Ethan, Dan, and Ethan's nan were brilliant characters and especially loved the way in which Ethan's nan dealt with his mum. Definitely worthy of 5 stars!!! Loved It!!
James has grabbed my heart again. This author has a wonderful way telling a story that is told in the most realistic way. He writes how life can be so cruel and mean just for being different. And it’s one thing to be judged and treated badly for being something others feel they have the right to do, but when it’s your own family, that’s a whole new ballgame. It still troubles me that anyone feels they have the right to judge anyone else. We all are human, and we all bleed red. James brings these issues to his writing and also brings the love that we all need.
Ethan is a young man that has been engaged to Rachel set up by his mother. Ethan has recently come to terms that he is gay. He’s not one that really ever considered that he was but knew something was different. He has been with Rachel for 5 years and told her he had to wait for marriage to have sex. And, this has kept his mother off his back. His mother is all about looking good and anyone better not dare make her look bad. Both these woman in Ethan’s life are very venomous. They are evil and could care less about Ethan. The only positive woman in Ethan’s life is his grandmother, who lives two hours away, where he loves to go to get away.
Dan, on the other hand, has always known he’s gay. Dan left years ago to make a life of his own, but due to recent events with his business partner screwing him over, he’s back to work for Mrs. Attwood. His deceased father worked for her until his death and Dan was raised here. Mrs. Attwood loves Dan and treats him just like family. As far as she is concerned, he is family. He was the boss of the staff when he worked for her and now, Dan is doing the same thing.
Ethan has come to terms that he’s gay and calls off his engagement with the horrible Rachel and heads to his grandmother’s place to get away. He walks into the staff house thinking it’s vacant and low and behold, there is Dan in nothing but a towel. After a brief confrontation, he rushes out and soon realizes, that this man is the same man he saw naked when he was 10 years old. These two have a rough start, but that doesn’t stop Ethan from taking the big leap and kisses Dan before he rushes away back home. Ethan gets a call that grandma is not feeling well and he rushes back out to her place. This is where things start to bloom with these two. Dan learns that Ethan is a virgin and it scares him. He loves that he is, but it scares him because he’s sure Ethan will want more experience and get bored with him, so he breaks Ethan’s heart.
Then there’s Ethan’s mother that refuses to accept that Ethan is gay and how dare he make her look bad. And of course, Rachel will not let him call off the wedding, and she becomes stark raving mental. How will these two ever find their happiness? Will they survive Rachel’s antics? Will they get over their own fears? So many questions I can’t answer for you. You will have to read to get these answers for yourself.
My first book by this author and I will definitely be reading more by him. Dan was strong and forgiving but also hardened by life. And Ethan was.....sweet and fragile and naive and....and then he became something beautiful, blossoming before my very eyes like watching a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. This was a beautiful picture painted with words.
I'm do not know where to start with this review for a James' newest book. I'm pretty speechless as just how good this book was, how his writing has progressed since the early days and just how thought provoking his words really are. This story begins with Ethan, feeling he has to conform to his mothers ideals and he feels forced into situations that make him so unhappy. He has a lot of work to do, a lot of changes to make until he finds the peace and happiness he wants & needs. Daniel also has had a rather difficult time and had no choice but to move and start over, never believing that he would have to work at the same job his father had just to make ends meet. It's a very different scenario than he had imagined. The two men meet in perhaps unfortunate circumstances however they were not totally unfamiliar to each other as they had had some brief dealings with each other a long time ago, but would their preconceived notions actually work against them?
We have what you may call a slow burn romance, with both Ethan & Daniel having to fight their own demons, having to learn to trust each other and letting go of their own ideas/ ideals to find true happiness. We also have a great cast of side characters...we have Nan...oh how I loved her! She was fantastic and gave this book a homely feel. We also had Tracy, another character that warmed your heart. But we also meet Rachel and of course Ethan's mother...Grrrr. Every book needs characters that make you want to scream, cry out and throw your kindle...well here they are guys...but they were integral to the storyline no matter how agitated and upset they made me during the story. The storyline was a clever one, Ethan in particular was a character that you had to really try and understand, you had to look below the surface because at first glance he seemed shallow and a little obnoxious, but this is where James' writing skills come into play because by the end of the story he was endearing and one of my favourite characters to date.
James is a talented and very favourite author of mine who never fails to deliver an interesting and all consuming story...if you have read his earlier work then you will see the growth in his writing here...he gives himself completely during the process and always writes with intensity and a great passion. It's because of that that I was desperate to get to the next page whilst not wanting the book to finish! This book has a serious message whilst at the same time providing us with a sprinkling of humour, a touch of nostalgia and a whole heap of emotions. This is his best writing by a clear mile and I urge you to pick up this great standalone romance...you will not regret doing so. Before I go I do need to mention THAT epilogue...jeez it had me smiling like a loon...butterflies in my stomach and left me feeling all warm and fuzzy...thank you thank you thank you! Great cover...I love it! Eek I'm rambling so time to go 😁
Such a beautiful story of life and love!! Sometimes life can be unforgiving until you realize enough is enough! Ethan has spent his life in the closet hiding who he truly is trying to make his own mother happy with the rich lifestyle she leads. But after 5 years of pretending to love a woman, proposing marriage....never touching her all those years and his feelings turning to hatred, he decides he can't do it anymore. After breaking it off he goes to his grandmas farm for much needed solitude. He meets a man he once knew as a boy that is working for his grandma. Daniel is a tall, handsome man who comes back to the farm that his father once managed. When he meets Ethan again he thinks of him as a rich snob..But he quickly changes those misconceptions. Ethan is a virgin, scared of the mm lifestyle he knows very little of. Daniel wants to give him the taste he needs. This is a great coming out story and a love that quickly grows!! Ethan was dealt with a homophobic mother and a crazy fiancé. He needs Daniel to bring him through. HOT, Sexy, and a deep love! Love this story❤️❤️
For months now I have struggled to pick up any book and have it grip me like this book did. This is a beautiful story and I am so glad I finally read it. The characters are believable and endearing and it's such a great storyline I grabbed it to read every chance I got . I'm certainly going to check out this authors other work. I absolutely loved it.
This is a wonderful story of standing up for yourself and finally believing in you and being true to yourself.. I loved Ethan and Dan!!! This was my first book by this author, but it definitely will NOT be my last!!! Highly recommend!!
I loved how this story wove back and forth between Ethan and Dan seeing where their relationship started and where is was moving on instead of all the obstacles life put in their way.
