Bronco Nell, by LeAnn Mathis, is a western tale about a girl who love horses and how they trust her and life. It starts when she is young and displays how much of a tomboy she is. Her mother wants her to be a little lady but she feels more comfortable in men's clothes and riding horses.
Finally, she gets her wish one day, when her father gets a bunch of horses to be tamed. He starts doing the job. Nell is drawn to the horses and they don't scare her which surprises her dad and is the source of dread for her mother. Because of this, her father lets her help by grooming and cleaning the stalls so the animals can get adjusted to her.
Bronco Nell is a true story about a real woman in history, and kind of her biography, although it is written in a very interesting way. You will like her spunk and her strength, for she is just a petite woman who conquers a world of men on the western frontier and makes a name for herself.
I enjoyed the story to the last page and would recommend it to anyone who likes women protagonists in a western setting. It does have a scene of a rape, but it's not explicit and only take a couple of paragraphs. Otherwise the tale is clean, real and very entertaining.
