The Power of Building Productive Friendships cuts to the core of creating caring win-win relationships, solving people problems, and rising to the top in business and life. Tony shares the principles and methods he used in building productive friendships with top CEO and governmental leaders around the world...as a respected international busnessperson. He presents pertinent ancedotes and penetrating insights from his wealth of experiences, as he teaches you how to meet more people, build finer relationships, and better nurture the ones you have.
Author talks to the reader as if they work in sales or in some other client-orientated industry. The insights are still relevant for other people but keep this in mind.
The author fails to provide any actionable, practical tips apart from providing and receiving two business cards (which isn't that revolutionary). Other tips include being a mirror when speaking to others (and actually listening to them), calling people by their name and smiling.
The author instructs the reader to have charisma or become a "people magnet". But HOW? The substance is missing. Something like a script or blueprint I can use immediately.
The majority of the text is centered around CARING about others (their needs, aspirations, challenges), which I guess is what it takes to build productive relationships. Perhaps it's that simple.
One thing I admire is the author's infectious zeal and optimism.
What this book will NOT tell you: - How to be the star in the room - A practical guide for handling social situations - Elevating your charisma - How to begin and hold a conversation to anyone - Any psychological phenomena we experience and how you can exploit that
This book continues from where Dale Carmegie's " How to win friends and influence people" left off. It inspires me to work more on working on relationships new and old. I enjoyed reading it.
