I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have always been a fan of Alice in Wonderland, and this version is a great jumping in point for a new interpretation of the classic story.
It is the story of two different houses, I guess would be the best word for them, of Fae, the Seelie and UnSeelie. I found the intro unclear as to how it related to the story, but as the story unfolded, it became more clear. There is a curse that is mentioned in the beginning, and the way that (I think) it was revealed is well written.
This is a love story, plain and simple, although the way that the two main characters were thrust together beckoned back to a time of arranged marriages to help kingdoms. The male protagonist starts the story as a player, and when he sees his intended, all thoughts of playing the field quickly vanishes. The female protagonist had her heart set against marriage, well, that is until she sees her husband to be. I was hoping for a little bit more development in the story of why their love was destined, as it were, but this could come in future books, as this is the first in what is currently a five book series. We shall see.
The story is well written, with the minor problem mentioned that I had with it above, and will be well worth reading for anyone that is a fan of Lewis Carroll's tale of Alice, or anyone who likes romance. I, for one, do not call myself a fan of romance, but I am looking for the next novel.
I would definitely recommend this book.
