Kendrick von Schiller was born in Germany to a military family. Though she didn't grow up there, she dreams of returning. In the meantime, she spends her life pursuing multiple forms of artistic expression. A fan of costuming, the Renaissance Festival, swords and sorcery, the fantasy realm is a second home that writing only brings her closer to.
When she's not busy writing, she can either be found reading, drawing, or crafting in a plethora of mediums, including leather and metal. She's also a fan of lounging around the house in random ball gowns... because, why not?
Thoughts and detailed updates can be found at her blog on WordPress - as well as random posts about the Renaissance Festival, crafting, and a slew of other things:
Fura dropped her piece on the board of the most dangerous game… in book 2 of the Nyte Fyre Prophecy, Isle of Hell. I will not get into spoilers in this review, but this is one of those books that you just have to read and process on your own.
After the events of the first book, I really had no idea where this story was going to pick back up, though I must admit that the continuing adventures of Fura and Kyiani traversing the shadowy lands of Skeltonshire was not at all what I was expecting. Upon looking at the map and the brief mention of this forsaken island in the first book, I had imagined Skeltonshire as a sort of Mordor-like wasteland filled with general run of the mill basic evil… I was not expecting the drab and (almost) colorless land of Skeltonshire to produce so many colorful and intriguing characters, one of which, and now quite possibly my favorite new addition is Frieden.
Isle of Hell is a brick… a little intimidating when you first look at it, but it is amazing how quickly I actually made my way through its pages. Despite its size, I brought this book with me almost everywhere I went so that I could read a little here and a little there whenever I had time to venture back into that world. There were points that I couldn’t put it down, and it had me constantly wondering what would happen next. Despite the fact that this story takes place primarily in one location, (where the first book was more of a traveling adventure) I found it amazing that this story never really felt like it lagged anywhere. Also, much like a brick, I feel that Isle of Hell is a necessary addition to building up the world that is The Nyte Fyre Prophecy.
Where the first book ended in a way that was still somewhat of cliff-hanger, I felt satisfied where we ended, knowing that the adventure would continue whenever we were able to get back into that world again… This book on the other hand, though ending in a good place to conclude the events of their adventures on this island, I am practically aching with anticipation to find out what happens next!!
This book is definitely not for the faint of heart, taking some of our characters into some rather dark places, both physically and mentally, but if you can handle the darkness, I recommend this book to anyone who loved the first one and the fantasy genera in general.
Kendrick Von Shiller hit the ball out of the park with this one, and I can honestly say that this book (and series in general) is easily fitting itself into some of my favorite Fantasy books I’ve read to date!! All I can really say to conclude this is, Bring on Book 3!!!
