I've read political books before and I'd recently read the Communist Manifesto but I wasn't all that well up on Marx and so I later read this book, too. It was an introduction and contained the background information I wanted to know. I would recommend reading this before or side by side with anything by Marx himself if you're new to his work.

This volume presented in a user friendly beginners style, outlines the life of Karl Marx and his varying theories and philosophy... An appreciated feature are the highlighted definitions throughout the chapters and also the supporting timelines and references used.

Simple, concise and readable. Very basic but helpful guide. Marx is difficult to read so this type of guide is useful to those trying to get to grips with Marx's works and ideas and the context of his life and times.
