Life on Tajss can be hard. There's very little water, it's hot as hell, human technology has been set back to the stone age, and some of the survivors just want to cause trouble for everyone else. Despite everything, there is hope for the future of two races. Adorable half-alien babies prove love can conquer all.

This short story is part of the Red Planet Dragons of Tajss series and is not intended to be stand alone. It should be read after book five, Olivia's story (Dragon's Kiss), and is a quick look into life as a survivor for those who just can't get enough of the Red Planet.

USA Today bestselling author Miranda Martin writes fantasy and scifi romance featuring heroes with out-of-this-world anatomy that readers call 'larger than life' and smart heroines destined to save the world. As a little girl, she would sneak off with her nose in a book, dreaming of magical realms. Today she brings those fantasies to life and adores every fan who chooses to live in them for a while.

Though born and raised in southern Virginia, Miranda Martin is a veteran who's traveled to places like Korea, Hawaii, and good 'ole Texas. She's since settled in Kansas, the heart of America, with her husband and daughters, a cat, and wishes for a pet dragon or unicorn. When she's not writing, you can still find her tucked away somewhere with a warm blanket and her nose in a book.

As mentioned in the author’s blurb, this short story is part of the Red Planet Dragons of Tajss series and is not intended to be read on its own. It would follow book #5 and is a glimpse of life as a survivor, living in a crumbling dorm room and sleeping on the floor.

Morning comes and Sarah and Alicia prepare to start the day. They climb the stairway but halfway up the second story, random stairs are missing, making it difficult to navigate. As they walk, Sarah and Alicia fondly reminisce about coffee and simple things they miss. Without fresh batteries for the flashlights, there is only the gloom around them as they slowly pick their way through debris until they push open a door to the outside. Even under the protective dome, the temperature is 100 degrees with the rising of Tajss’ double suns burning the ground. With no running water, the smell of the bath house is horrible. Food is rationed and not very appetizing. And then each goes off to perform their work for the day.

This is a helpful transition piece into this series and will familiarize the reader with the difficult environment and politics going on as everyone struggles to survive. Yet as difficult as life is depicted here, there may be signs of hope for a better future. What could turn this dreary life around? What would it take to make any kind of significant difference? I definitely recommend reading this for a fuller impact as the author prepares us for what is to come.

Fans of Miranda Martin's saga of the shipwrecked humans on planet Tajss will love this short and suspenseful addition to the Red Planet Dragons series. It isn't really a stand-alone, so newcomers should start with Dragon's Baby and read through. That said, It's Getting Hot is a fascinating major plot-booster for the book(s) to come. In short order, it deals with the advancing menace of Gershom and his xenophobic Humans First hate group, as well as the dwindling resources available to the human survivors in the Zmaj domed city, and the unhealed rift between the Zmaj of the Tribe and the Zmaj of Ladon's city. It isn't all politics and skullduggery, though, with a hint or two at possible future Zmaj-human pairings. That's as far as I'll (no spoilers), but in its four short chapters this one packs a wallop - don't miss it!

***I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

I haven't been able to get and read all the Dragons of Tajss books yet but I have read one other book along with this short story. As the title implies it’s a quick and easy read since it is a short story. I really enjoyed it as it gives a reader a great but brief clue in as to the situations faced by the various books characters and the environment in which they live. The situation is dire and there's a hot game of politics being played by the various factions on the planet.

This little snapshot should help an individual a slight taste and flavor to the other books and whether they might appeal. I'll be getting more of the previous books as soon as I can but they're all on my wish list for now.

First, let's make it clear that this is not a full-length story. This is more of a prequel to prepare you for the next story. Since there is going to be a little longer time frame between stories than usual, the author is giving us this story. I loved this story and I am happy to have this look into the life on my favorite red planet to tide me over until the next full length book. With this "filler" information already in place, Ms Martin will be able to jump straight into the next story. Which means we as readers will get to enjoy more story-line about those "hunky" dragons we love so much.

This is a great little story to tide me over until the next proper book. This us the story of Sarah and is a great parallel story to the main story arc

We see how the survivor are living day to day and the immense lack of facilities and utilities they must struggle with like their dorms which are just beds on crumbling floors blocked and dark passageways with missing floors and not to mention the fetid bathrooms!!!! Bleuuurgggghhhh!

We also see more of Gershom and his propaganda war against the Zmaj and his attempt to cut off supplies of water to the rest of the city!

Roll on the next book!!!

Life on the planet Tajss is hard with very little water, the intense heat and technology as if it was the stone age (or so it seems). This is made worse as some of the survivors just want to cause trouble and not work together. However, there is hope as some adorable half-alien babies prove that love can conquer all.

This is a short little novella that looks at some of the problems and some of the politics of the current situation between the humans and the aliens on Tajss. Easy to read and understand. You would need to have read the previous books in order to understand the relationships between the different factions.

This is a short story that covers a day or two in the dome. It is also probably a set-up for the next full length story. This story really gives a taste of what life was like for the humans living in the dome. It also shows how desperate things are getting. It focuses a lot on Sarah and her thoughts and actions. I really enjoyed hearing more about past characters and the scenes with the babies were adorable. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.

A day in the life in Tajss

I nearly missed this short story because Amazon wasn't showing it as being part of the series, but am really glad I read it. This story uses the character Sarah to explore life in the city, to give us an idea how Harsh on is luring followers to his side, and points out the tons of tiny adjustments the humans have made from life in the ship to life in land.

Visidion's tribe and Ladon's city

Visidion's tribe needs a new place to live, but will Ladon let them move inside his cut? Sarah is working for Rosalind without anyone knowing she is grooming her to take over for her. Gershom is still being an ass and has found the pipes that control the water supply, making himself look good again. This book has all kinds of good stuff in it. Definitely worth the read.

New life

In a world where you have to work together to survive, our heroine is learning all she can. So much is riding on finding solutions to housing the remnants of the crash, life in general. This book reminds us of how the bigotry of a few can damage the whole. It also reminds us of the joys of new life.

This is book 5.5 which means its a novella. I normally hate novella but I was glad that I could see what the villain was up too. Not to mention Roslinda seems to like a certain Zmaj dragon. lol.. Another baby is born and the troubles just keep mounting. Nothing was resolved in this book but it was a nice treat so that the wait for the next one want be so long.

Short story with storyline transitions

This is a very short story that should be read between books 5 and 6 of the Red Planet Dragons of Tajss series. It also gives a little peek of what is going on between the 'human first' and the other survivors.

It will not make sense if you have not already familiar with the series.

Read out of order

I found out I missed this little Jewel of a book after I read books 13, even though I read this book out of order I was still able to read book 6 with no problem. This short story gives more insight into Sarah's story and how she became a spy for Rosalind.

this was more of additional

Chapters then a short story. Liked it but really not an conclusion of a story, just I would imagine a lead in for future ones.

Do not buy that it would take them a year to find where the pipes went. They would have dug up lines to trace them. And what happened to exploring outside power lines like the box with destroyed lines?

Short but sweet

This one was very short and didn't go into in depth explanations or backstory. It did give a decent glimpse into the inner workings of the division of the groups and set the stage for the next book in the series.

Short & sweet

This short story gets behind the scenes information about what Gershom is doing a bit. Sarah is being groomed to take over for Rosiland whether she realizes it or not. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

Good series

Short short story bridging books 5&6, and it was so good. A lot of things are developing in the human first camp. This series shows the awful side of bigotry. This is getting incredibly interesting.

👍

This is a good quick read providing some insight into the life of the survivors in the city and their struggles between much needed unity and those who manipulate masterfully seeking only power and their own lusts for it.

The Lines Are Drawn

There are betrayers in the mist. Food and water is short in supply. Some humans feel threatened by the dragons even though they are helping them to survive on this red planet. Excellent reading.

I'm not real sure why they didn't nip that Gershwin problem right off the bat. I don't believe that the aliens would put up with his crap. Banish him and his followers let them fend for themselves. They waiting for him to take over. It's ridiculous

Short very good read of 65 pages. I enjoyed the way it tells you about the trouble the city is going through and how Gresham is manipulating things, what will he do next?
