Finally! A strong Intelligent professional Black/African American lead heroine/character that doesn't take any shit, but carries herself with class... and gets her Asian man!
While I did enjoy the book, there were several things that stuck for me. The time line was laid out at the start of the book, and at the end it seemed to be rushed. The story seemed to be hurried to a close, with the beginning being given more depth.
The story was cute and sweet. I would not describe this as a rom com by a means. I wish there was more of an epilogue or something. The ending felt rushed and incomplete
Addictive Behavior introduces us to a strong, intelligent Black woman (Leah) who doesn't take nonsense. Her connection with Michael (her Asian love interest) is refreshing. The early stages of their relationship are charming and endearing.
However, the pacing of the story feels uneven. The initial build-up is engaging, but the conclusion feels rushed and abrupt. The timeline, initially laid out, seems to be neglected towards the end, leaving the reader wanting more. A more extended epilogue or a glimpse into their future would have provided a satisfying conclusion.
While the story is cute and sweet, it doesn't fully deliver on the romantic comedy promise. The lack of comedic elements and the rushed ending diminish the overall impact.
Despite these shortcomings, Addictive Behavior has potential. With a more balanced pacing and a stronger focus on the romantic comedy elements, it could have been a truly enjoyable read.
