When ex-Lieutenant Cole Outstar joins up with an interstellar military lightyears from The Federation, he's certain his troubles with his fellow humans are over. That is, until he discovers that his kind are feared as an unkillable demon-species out here in the Lascardian Empire, and there's only one other human around that could have set the example - his new boss.

The insectoid-run Lascardia has been at peace for years, but everything changes when one of her imperial gains rises up to break their chains. As the empire falls under attack at their most vulnerable point, a secretive opposing force prepares their ranks. It falls to one loose-cannon Greater Lieutenant, the recently-recruited Cole, and their fireteam of genetically and mechanically modified misfits to stem the tide of aggression and go beyond the call of duty. But in the rush to save his new home and drive back the shadowy menace, Cole begins to hear a voice in his head, and it has some pretty interesting ideas- is it telepathy, or insanity?

A science fiction adventure like none you’ve read before, as an unlikely team of professionals stare down the death of their civilization at one end, and the people they strive to protect at the other.

Valiance starts immediately where Defiance left off, and it is an amazing book. Cole is still the main character, or one of the main characters. The story starts after Cole accepts the job in the military ranks on the planet Arda in the Lascardian Empire, where humans are feared. Lascardian empire is populated by highly intelligent insectoid creatures of approximately human size and very interesting culture.
Apart from Cole, there is mysterious The Human, three Ardians, Azi Hoss and Eqarne, and a very funny android Coffee. Their interactions are very entertaining and some of the dialogues and speeches did make me laugh, but the story is very serious and not a laughing matter, as the little crew of misfits is trying to save the Empire against all odds.
Seriously, I love this author and this story is written in his style that I love so much. As most of his works, this story is situated somewhere within his Omniverse. It is action packed from beginning to the end, quite unpredictable at times, full of cool technical terms, and the characters are incredibly well developed and interesting. And yes, regardless of my initial reservations, I do very much like Cole now. And the insect people are great as well.
I love how the author expands the Omniverse with every story he writes, and every time I feel like I am transported right into the centre of action. There are some secrets in this book that I do not wish to reveal, but if you like Nocturna League, you will love this series as well. I am immediately starting with the next book.
Series is best read in order: Defiance (Voidstar Empire #0.5), Valiance (Voidstar Empire #1), Eminence (Voidstar Empire #2), and more books have been announced.

Somewhat Humorous Satire With Heavy Anime Theme

“Variance,” is a somewhat humorous satire, that relies heavily on an anime theme. As anime isn’t an entertainment choice of this reviewer, the book’s continual references were wasted.

Neutral recommendation and fully read via Kindle Unlimited.

Just bad!

A total waste of time and memory space. I will delete immediately, downloaded for free and regret the effort. Reasonably well formatted and edited, but for me this book misses the mark by being too flippant and trying too hard to be cute when a story was wanted.
