A rake without redemption...
Reviled for gambling away his family’s fortune, Viscount Weymouth is just days away from debtor’s prison when he receives a mysterious summons and a most improper offer. By day, a mom/wife and business executive, by night, Ariel Atwell writes erotic romance novels. An ardent fan of weekends in the country, fine wine and the starting line-up of the Washington Nationals baseball team, she aspires in her next life to be more like Freya, the Norse goddess of love, lust, beauty, and sorcery, who was renowned for her ability to herd cats and for whom the day Friday was named. Ariel lives in a Victorian farmhouse in the Washington DC area with her husband of more than 20 years, two nearly grown children, one charming dog and two cantankerous cats.
So this author has three books out so far....I read the first book of this trilogy and although it was written well....it clashed with my ideals of romance and sensuality....i.e. I don't find it sexy when the man who is supposed to love you forces you into a three-some with a stranger even if he is doing it for revenge....I am actually very conventional and boring when it comes romance and love making....I have never found the multiple partner thing attractive....anyways...I have not read the Novella....but this second book in the series is awesome for lack of a better word. It is as if Ms. Atwell listened to all my problems with the first book and addressed them here.....I love the at times kinky but still very romantic love making....I enjoyed the many layers of each character as it was revealed and I definitely enjoyed the ending....Just the way I wanted it to end....I am actually really excited now and looking forward to The boring Duke's book....I wish it was out already.
P.S. there is a scene with the tavern girl which has confused a few people lol....read the scene and the following few pages carefully and you will know what is going on....I only knew what was coming because of a similar scene in her first book 😊
Started off well, Went off the rails half way through
I was quite enjoying this until a strange scene with an out of the blue asshole move happened midway through. If you later ignored that it happened (and the author seemed to) then it tried to resettle itself again afterward but there was just a weird vibe to the rest of the story. She writes the sex very well (even the scene that bothered me), but I have to connect with the characters also, especially at a certain point in the relationship and, for me, these weird scenes thrown in at that crucial point just ruin that and in effect the whole book.
I like the idea of Kirkwood and Gigi so I might give the next book a chance still, but if this strange and unpleasant aberration of the hero midway through is a recurring event, as it seems perhaps it is with Ms Atwell's writing, I'm afraid that will be the end of the line for me.
Note: there are spoilers in my comments which are reactions to above mentioned WTF scene.
I liked the first book of this series and would like this one too except the part when the Hero (not much an Hero) do the seduction to ....spoiler....(maybe just me since i dont see any other reviewers complaint about it)... Again Spoler Alert...
.....H seduced and had sex with 17 year old good girl virgin in private room at the inn whille the h waiting for him at their room. If the girl is a wench and thats her job I dont think I be bother by it. There's no remorse nor a follow-up what the h will do to him if she ever found out. I was skipping the pages to see if that'll ever happen but nothing. Why ms. Atwell u had to ruin your book wirh that scene..made me hate the H, what a bastard, jerk and totally unnecessary. It ruined my fantasy and of course the entire book *sigh*!😕 Had to give 2 stars, made the story totally unenjoyable. UGH!!
Here I thought I'd be reading about some shenanigans regarding sex and some misguided love between the main characters... But what I got instead was a freaking awesome love story about a grown woman who decided to take the reins (metaphorically, she dislikes horses) and find out what it's like to take what she wants. I honestly couldn't be more proud of her. Only one scene in the book bugged me to no end, but you'll understand it when you read it. It's very happily ever after. But not before some trials and tribulations.
I have looked forward to the Trilogy of the Cavanaugh's and I found it really different from the first book but refreshing with the new plot of adventure instead of revenge. Since reading her first book I am a fan and recommend them to read all of her books. She doesn't disappoint. Cudo's on your new book!
An enjoyable story of oh so proper Lady Cavanagh trying to find out about what she h as Bern missing in her sex life with the roguish Lord Weymouth. Romance, very spicy sex including some role play that at first I thought was 'real' . HEA.
