Love Is a Rebellious Bird

Rate this book
AU in which the boys still make music. Louis is the concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra, Harry is the New! and Exciting! interim conductor/ex-cello prodigy who "has made Mozart cool again" according to Esquire Magazine (Louis hates him immediately, which is definitely why he internet stalked him in his dark bedroom late at night that one time), and Niall is the best. Zayn and Liam are around too.

Don't hum Bolero.

One of my top fave Larry Stylinson fics mainly because of the way it was written. This reads like a real published book. I felt like this was a lot better than many mainstream/published books I have read.

This novel is filled with a whole lot of angst pining, doubting and belittling oneself. I love the small glimpse of the past and all the music references. I also felt the transitioning of the two points of view are seamless and bring a stronger bond of reader to the book.

Great great read. I think this was my third time reading this and I would very much read it again.

Rating: 4 stars? Maybe 3.5?

This one was so good. I've been meaning to read it for a while and I'm so happy to have finally done it. I read it so fast for being a little over 700 pages. It was so addicting and I couldn't stop, I found myself staying up late to finish this one.

Harry is the new conductor for their performance and it's a one sided enemies to friends to friends with benefits to lovers type of situation? They knew each other from before when Louis used to bully Harry at camp and that's one of the best plots here. Just seeing Harry try to handle those conflicting emotions. It's so interesting because I typically hate the whole "bully actually is in love with them" plot line, but this book makes it work. They're older, Louis is 30 at this point and remembering the summer together when Harry was once 15. I love that they're looking back on that and seeing how that could affect their relationship now and Harry's unconditional love for Louis regardless of all of his defense mechanisms and mean moments. I just genuinely love the vibes here and the writing is so amazing. The details are incredible and it read like a published book.

My only problem with this book is the miscommunication trope. I abhor the trope and every time it's used it feels like a scape goat plot to me. It felt weird here and I understand that this is most likely not the authors shortcomings but just my personal preference in books. I also didn't like how much smut this had. I loved it as first but there was just so much and I don't have a problem with how many times it happens as much as when it happens. They get horny during emotional times and while I understand sex, I kind of just wanted to see a heartfelt, tender moment where they cuddle in bed without sex. This feels like it would've been monumental for a relationship that started off as a friends with benefits type of thing. Instead, I started to feel like the horny sex scenes were weirdly placed after a very hard conversation towards the end. Maybe it would've worked if it had been emotional sex instead. Also the epilogue was cute. It flash-forwards to them in the future, 80 something years old with children and happy. It gave me the feeling that they were going to die but they didn't.

Overall, the angst here was incredible. I am so in love with the guilty feelings and the conflict of fake hating each other but being supportive anyways and dealing with what happened in their past. It was brilliant and I also adore the orchestra vibes. It gave me a new appreciation for classical music.

I LOVE THIS FF VERY MUCH. IS FOR ME THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FF LARRY AND IS MY FAVORITE BOOK! This story is beautiful. First because I LOVE classical music and seeing the guys play this genre, which I play with the piano, makes me love this ff right away. Second the setting is gorgeous, the fact that the background location is London I really liked; but even cooler is the fact that they're at the LSO, the best place for this story. I also like the weather a lot. It takes place throughout the year, a very cool idea that makes us understand the events better. When I started it I thought it was set at the beginning of the last century, but then I realized that we are in this historical period and it's even better this way. Third I love the characters. Harry is my favorite because he is super cute and super sweet. You can see right away that I love Louis very much and he does everything to get their relationship started. Louis on the other hand is a character I hated for many chapters (especially when he hums the Bolero). But in the end when he realizes he loves Harry he manages to apologize and give birth to one of the most beautiful love stories ever. The other three are also central to the story and are really amazing. I seriously loved this story so much and I recommend everyone to read it♡

Having a fanfic reading renaissance and had to revisit one of the classics - I still maintain this is better than a majority of new adult fiction that is currently published.

not sure how to feel about this anymore…
used love it but i kinda have doubts now. the plot is actually not bad but the sex?? wayy too much and unnecessary at times (even for a fanfic)

makes me kinda sad that i NEVER would’ve believed you if three years ago you told me i’d change my mind about this fic.
