I came across this book at The Book Seller while I was visiting Grass Valley. I'm always interested in books by local poets. They are inconsistent; this one was a lovely surprise. The three voices are distinct but companionable. The poems are heartfelt, thoughtful, and strong.
It was good to come across this 1998 book by a younger Dan Bellm, Forrest Hamer and Molly Fisk. I say it that way because I just discovered these poets in the last two years, either in person at readings or through hearsay. The book consists of unrelated poems by the three writers interwoven with each other. The effect for me was of life itself - big life topics like growing up, death, and history popping up as they do in our individual lives somewhat randomly. I imagined that these three poets were in a writer's group together, and it made me feel good about my own three-person writer's group and what we are accomplishing together.
