The Lost Canvas pumps up!

I didn’t buy this manga but my brother actually bought the complete manga collection of the saga, therefore he lent me this volume to be able of reading it. My brother bought the Spanish translated version but I am choosing the English edition to make the review easier to work and to avoid having to do a bilingual review. I apologize in advance if I’d mispronounce some name or term on English since I am actually reading the books on Spanish.

This manga volume collects “Saint Seiya – The Lost Canvas” chapters #16-24.

Writer & Illustrator: Shiori Teshirogi

Based on the original manga series Saint Seiya created by Masami Kuromada

ALBAFICA RULES!

While the protagonist of the original series was Pegasus Seiya, a bronze saint giving tile to the franchise of Saint Seiya and therefore, here, in The Lost Canvas, the protagonist is Tenma wearing the Pegasus Cloth, once again, a bronze saint, any fan of the franchise will tell you that the best goddang thing in the franchise are the Gold Saints, which here in The Lost Canvas fortunately are in the good side…

…since in the original series, most of them were managed as antagonists in the iconic “Twelve Houses” saga…

…and fortunately in following sagas they were once again, champions of justice, especially in their own OVA series Soul of Gold

…but a really cool thing in The Lost Canvas is that they are heroes rightaway, ready to protect Athena by any means until their last breath…

…and now, finally we can read the first real battle of a Gold Saint against one of the Three Judges of the Underworld!

Griffon Minos aka “The Puppeteer”, one of the Three Judges of the Underworld, is sent by Hades and Pandora to invade the Sanctuary and killing Athena…

BUT

…first Minos and his group of specters, will have to face none other than…

…Pisces Albafica, a Gold Saint so powerful that he’s considered a whole defensive barrier on his own! Albafica is in control of several roses’ fields around the Sanctuary, the near villages and even between his house, the Pisces House and the Patriach’s Chamber…

…but they’re not regular roses’ field as you already may guess, oh no! They’re poisoned roses of several colors, red, black and white, each with different effects, and Albafica is in control of all of them and since he’s in contact with those poisoned roses for so many time, a downside is that he opted to remain out of contact of people since his blood is already toxic to anybody else.

A young girl admires to Albafica since he met him in the past, and she’s told his story and why he avoided contact of the rest around him, and she’s praying for him since she knows that she and her village won’t get any harm if Albafica is out there, battling for the safety of them and the Sanctuary.

Meanwhile, Yato and Yuzuriha found Tenma, and after battling against Mandrake Fyodor, an specter, they explained him that they were sent to get him back to the world of living, but first, they have an additional mission, one which is pivotal to assure thee victory of Athena’s army against the hordes of Hades, due that Hades is literally the Master of Death, his specters don’t remain ”dead” after being beaten in the world of the living and Hades can bring them back to “life”, so Yuzuriha was told to find a very special tree in the Underwold to stop for good that unfair advantage of Hades’ demonic hordes against Athena’s righteous army.

This definitely is the best volume so far, of the three that I’ve read (and I knew that it’ll be that way since I watched the anime adaptation) and maybe it’d fair to give 4 stars to the first two volumes and this third one a full 5 stars rating, since it’s indeed far superior and more exciting than the two previous ones, but I won’t change my initial rating of those volumes, since after, they were pretty good too, but it’s clear that The Lost Canvas story started to really pump up here, with (obviously) the first real battle of a Gold Saint.
