Getting Your Baby to Sleep the Baby Sleep Trainer Way

Rate this book
Certified sleep consultant Natalie Willes, know also as The Baby Sleep Trainer, shares her effective and efficient sleep training method in her new book, Get Your Baby to Sleep the Baby Sleep Trainer Way. Thousands of families throughout the world have used the Baby Sleep Trainer method to help their infants and toddlers learn to sleep through the night and take healthy naps, all with the fewest tears possible. Backed by thorough scientific data and years of professional experience, the Baby Sleep Trainer Method offers parents a tried and true solution for children aged 16 weeks through 3.5 years. Step-by-step, comprehensive contents · The science of baby sleep habits · How to prepare your child’s room for optimal sleep · Discussions on cortisol and crying in babies · Creating healthy sleep habits with newborns · Exactly when and how to start sleep training for nighttime sleep and naps · Tips and tricks for multiples · Troubleshooting common sleep training issues and pitfalls · Detailed eat-wake-sleep schedules for children on 3, 2, and 1 nap · Sleep training toddlers and children in beds Praise for the Baby Sleep Trainer "My 5 month old was waking up every 2-3 hours at night and I was seriously sleep deprived. My sleep deprivation was affecting every aspect of my life. I read several books on sleep training, as well as blogs and websites. I was at my wits end. After following the program for two weeks, my child was consistently sleeping 11-12 hours a night and was on a consistent schedule during the day! This program has literally given me my life back.” – McKel Neilsen “Two months ago I was at the end of my sleep rope with our 6-month-old, boy/girl twins. Exhausted doesn't begin to explain it, I felt desperate. After using the Baby Sleep Trainer Method we feel like we have our lives back. The babies are happy and well rested, and so are we! We have our evenings back to cook dinner, spend time with our 4-year-old daughter, hang out together, and actually do things we enjoy. The process took commitment but has been absolutely worth every bit of it.” – Beth Oller, MD “Using the Baby Sleep Trainer Method, my daughter quickly went to a routine nap schedule during the day and sleeping through the night from 6:30pm to 6:30am! Also, rather than the exhausting and often unsuccessful rocking or soothing or feeding to sleep, we were able to put her down awake in her crib and she would fall asleep on her own in just a few minutes. It was just incredible." – Online Review

I wanted to be able to sleep train with the least amount of tears possible and with knowledge to know I was doing the right thing for when I felt weak. This book is straight forward-something my sleep deprived brain appreciated. I didn’t have to wade through endless fluff. I could start executing the plan immediately, without any confusion and insecurity. I don’t see myself being able to follow this 100% (such as following the nap time suggestions to a tee on busy weekends) but I like that she outlines key things to keep as your foundation. Sleep training isn’t something you should feel a slave to, and while I will do everything while trying be consistent and disciplined as possible, I feel like we have made it something of our own and are headed in the right direction. Just a few days of following her advice has already made a huge difference!

Side note: this program isn’t to be followed until the baby is 16 weeks. We had great success for the newborn stage with the Taking Cara Babies newborn online class.

Helpful book, but some grammatical errors and quite a bit of repetition. It would be even more helpful if they had a section at the end with all the sample sleep schedules and easy reference sheets. Overall, it was a good introduction to sleep training for me and gave me some things to think about while preparing to become a parent.

Super helpful for our family! Our six month old is now sleeping through the night and regularly sleeping three naps a day which has been a game changer. I love how she explains that falling asleep unassisted is a skill that can be learned just like sitting, crawling, walking or any other milestone and also how incredibly important sleep is for healthy development. Sleep training is a very personal choice for families but if you're looking to approach it I think this is a great place to start!

Informative, straightforward

I value the authors’ focus on consistency, preparing the sleep environment , explanation of REM sleep in infants and speaking with your pediatrician along the way. I do not follow all of the author’s methodologies as religiously as said necessary but I still found the book a helpful read.

- Okay, quick read
- The 2-star rating may change depending on how we go once we try this out...
- Sleep training sounds very daunting
- Found Natalie Willes on a YouTube video and she seemed very capable and experienced which convinced me to buy the book
- Hope it works
- Liked that things were explained with good (?) rationale

I wouldn't exactly call this a methodology when every age group is different and how you apply the 'method' depends on a range of factors. I read the entire book until the last page gave me the one situation that suits my kid.

To strict for me. I thought that this book would give me better ideas for getting my little one to sleep on their own but this was not something I was interested in.

I appreciate the suggestions for babies, but I don’t think I could ever lock a toddler in their room overnight and refuse to communicate with them the whole time. That feels abusive to me.

Makes sense conceptually

So far it makes sense. I'll review it again once i apply it in a couple of weeks, which is when my baby turns 4 months

Thank goodness this was a quick read. The text was hard to read in some areas because it was so light. It had some good info but it’s also hard info to implement.

Very short, practical guide to a very hectic and harrowing time. It’s a long blog post but I’m glad I put down the other books for a few days to read it

Some interesting ideas, and information. Method described is far too rigid, not for me.
