In the aftermath of the attack on his brother and his family, Canute is coaxed into joining forces with another vampire family in the hopes of ending a long feud between two rivaling clans vying for control.
A false pretense…
Under the guise of a Kindred bond, Canute finds himself used as a pawn in some war he wants no part of. Angry, confused, and unable to trust himself, he loses his already tenuous control and becomes berserker, losing himself into the night.
Fighting with fear…
When Canute wakes up, he finds himself in the presence of a young man named Haru, who ends up being his true Kindred. Afraid that he’s still beguiled and unable to fully trust so soon after an immense betrayal, Canute has to fight past his fears and his weaknesses to accept his Kindred. Between immense betrayal and a war where no one can trust their judgment, can he learn to trust—and love—again?
CANUTE is an M/M vampire romance with no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a happily-ever-after. Expect magic, a little angst, and just the tiniest bit of darkness!
Frey Ortega writes erotic romance, primarily of the gay variety. He lives in what a friend affectionately calls “the south-easternmost part of Spain,” which is an archipelago called the Philippines. He’s a graduate of the Royal, Pontifical, and Catholic University in Manila, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. Primarily, he works as a writer, a novelist, sometimes a video game journalist, and overall a homebody who spends way too much time on the internet.
I must say that I liked this book more than I did the first in the series. I found Canute a much more likeable character than Cyrus was and I just adored Haru. I liked the majority of this book took place in Japan. The only thing that I was disappointed in was the ending. I wanted to read about Haru fitting in at Chateau Sanguine. Alas, we didn’t really get that.
Overall, it was a good story. If you liked the first one, you would definitely like this one. I’m of two minds as to whether or not you need to read the first one in the series in order to like this one. I don’t think it strictly necessary, but it would give you insight into this world and show you how Cyrus and Ranmaru met.
Deception, heartbreak, hope, fate, love, and passion. That is a lot for one book, but I wouldn't want it any other way.
Haru is so innocent in many ways. He has a special purpose in the paranormal world, but once he sees Canute, his purpose changes. Canute and Haru are Kindred and finding Haru after want Canute went through was good timing. I thin he would have been lost if Haru hadn't rescued him.
The cover was wrong because Canute had blond hair. The writing was all over the place and difficult to follow. The characters were stiff like cardboard and came across very simplistic. Lost interest and DNF @ 40%. Returned to KU @ 0%.
This was a good follow up. Poor Canute being used as a pawn in a very powerful siren's plan. This siren was so powerful that no one could see through all the deception.
