First book in the sizzling Mission Pleasure series…
Ruby has a secret. Beneath her prissy exterior lies a submissive in desperate need of a Master. After her past disastrous attempt at exploring her fantasies, she buried her cravings deep and told herself she’d be fine without giving in to them. Then she meets Joshua. He’s everything she’s ever fantasized about—and everything she’s feared.
Joshua didn’t start out wealthy—he’s an ex-marine who made his fortune after seeing his fair share of war. His wealth and lavish lifestyle are nothing next to his driving need to claim Ruby for his own. He’d give up everything to collar her for a lifetime, and he’ll have to use every sinful dominant trick he knows to make her let him in.
Inside Scoop: This book features a hero who knows what his submissive needs, whether it’s being tied up or being taken in public with the assistance of two other hot marines. Please note this book was previously published by Ellora's Cave.
Multi-published author, Scarlett Sanderson is a librarian by day and a romance novelist by night. She lives in suburban England with her husband and dreams of having Lara Croft type adventures. As a reader, she loves to immerse herself in sweeping tales of romance, fantasy and most of all, tantalizing erotica. Those are the elements she tries to weave into the stories she creates.
When not writing, Scarlett has a burning passion for history, good chocolate, great coffee and anything supernatural (especially if it includes the hunters Dean and Sam Winchester from the TV show Supernatural!).
Scarlett Sanderson is one of my favorite erotica authors, and Claiming Ruby is an older story of hers that I actually remember reading from a while back. I was asked to read and review it (since I have never reviewed it.) I’m once again floored by how much I just love her stories, and I really enjoyed this one!
Ruby is a bookstore owner, and she has a best friend Jaime who not only works with her, but has a job as a burlesque dancer with an act where she is a submissive. Ruby comes along with Jaime to help her when she does these shows, and they are usually at a private residence. One night, after the show, she meets a man who hits on her and she quickly learns that not only is he a dominant, but that he’s a rich businessman. Because of that, she wants nothing to do with him, especially when he starts sending gifts to her store to try and persuade her to date him. But his persistence pays off.
They end up together, but an old flame throws a wrench in the works and may just destroy everything he’s worked for with Ruby. Such a great book, even if at times you just want to yell at Ruby for some of her behaviors. I haven’t read the books of the others in the series, but I most definitely plan to! I think this was a wonderful start to the series!
Inside prim bookstore owner Ruby Romano beats the heart of a submissive; a woman that longs to be owned and controlled by the man she will call her Master. After a failed Dominant/submissive relationship however, Ruby vows never to give up control again. She refuses to give another man the complete trust it would require for her to submit. But a man like Joshua Quinn won’t take no for an answer. A former marine who has made a fortune in the business world, Joshua is used to getting what he wants. And after meeting Ruby at a burlesque performance and sensing her submissive nature, what he wants is Ruby.
At its core, Claiming Ruby is a story about one woman’s desire to submit, fighting with her fears of repeating past mistakes. With the right man, who is willing to show Ruby how to go after what she wants, will she be brave enough to face her insecurities and trust him enough to reach for what she truly needs? This is the first book of Scarlett Sanderson’s that I have read, but I will certainly seek out her older titles to see what I’ve missed. I enjoyed the story itself, as well as Joshua and Ruby. Joshua, although incredibly blunt, is likeable.
Despite having earned the nickname of “Iron Man”, many instances in the book provide insight into a sensitive side of the Dom that makes him human. And Ruby is a woman who is all too aware of her faults. Although a successful business woman in her own right, personally she is afraid to take a chance and lose her heart for fear of having it broken. From the beginning, Joshua’s intentions are true. He finds himself falling for Ruby, and rather than fight it, he embraces it wholeheartedly. But Ruby’s insecurities and flagging self-esteem will not allow her to believe that Joshua’s feelings are genuine or lasting.
In an effort to protect herself from further heartbreak and embarrassment, she refuses to accept that he wants only her. Ruby believes that Joshua wants nothing more than sex, even though his actions show his desire to nurture, protect and care for her. Joshua does want more than sex from Ruby; he wants to earn her submission.
Joshua’s fellow marine buddies Alex and Sebastien make an appearance in the story, and the interaction between the friends is almost comical. The discussions between the three brawny ex-soldiers regarding Joshua’s feelings towards Ruby made me laugh… I cannot imagine a relationship discussion, and the question “Is she the one?” being uttered during a poker game! But somehow, it works and makes them all truly endearing characters. I am hoping that the introduction to these men is Scarlett Sanderson’s way of setting them both up for their own stories in the future.
Ruby’s tendency to overreact and automatically jump to conclusions about Joshua’s fidelity frustrated me, but overall, Claiming Ruby is a quick read that provided an enjoyable way to spend an evening. With hot sex scenes and a wealthy ex-marine with pure intentions and a filthy, dirty mouth (oh, yes!), I enjoyed this story and look forward to seeing Alex and Bastien again in future books of their own.
Ruby Romano is the owner and operator of a bookstore. She has a job that she loves and enjoys. She lives is an apartment on top of the bookstore. Ruby is a sub at heart but she keeps it buried deep down inside her after a failed attempt. Her trust was broken and Ruby does not think someone can gain it back. I loved that Ruby was average sized and not some skinny minny. She was also intelligent.
Joshua is a not just a Dom. He’s a man that goes after what he wants in life. Joshua did not start out wealthy. He earned every penny through hard work and diligence. Now that Ruby has caught his interest he is going to pursue her until she gives him a chance to show her he is the right man for her. I loved how persistent he was.
The chemistry between Joshua and Ruby is powerful. I can easily see why Ruby is so wary. The sex scenes were passionate and creative. They make a great couple and I loved how Joshua listened to Ruby’s body and not her words. Ruby could get frustrating because she continued to listen to her head instead of giving him a chance.
I found Claiming Ruby well written. It was a quick read at 113 pages. The main and secondary characters were appealing and realistic. Overall, this was a great book. I hope we get to see some of the secondary characters get their own stories in continuing books. This is the first in the Mission Pleasure series.

Claiming Ruby by Scarlett Sanderson is not part of series but I hope we get to see some of the secondary characters get their own book. I chose this book because after reading the summery I wanted to know how this book turned out.
Ruby Romano is the owner of a bookstore and she lives above in an apartment. She is an intelligent woman who has curves in all the right places. While Ruby is a sub, she keeps it buried after a failed attempt at submission when her trust was broken, and she is not sure anyone can help her gain that back.
Joshua is a man who goes after what he wants. He did not start out wealthy; he earned every penny through hard work and dedication. Joshua is a Dom and can see the sub in Ruby that she tries to hide. He is very persistent.
There is a powerful connection between Ruby and Joshua. No matter how much each tries to hide or bury the connection it keeps them together. While Ruby is wary about submitting to Joshua, she still does it, unable to resist the chemistry. The sex scenes were not just imaginative but intense as well.
This book was well written with interesting and engaging characters. At 113 pages long, this book had a well defined beginning, middle, and end. Overall, this book was wonderful. I will be keeping an eye out for more book by Ms. Sanderson.
Just finished Claiming Ruby by Scarlett Sanderson Ruby is a young lady who has always know she was a submissive but had never had a proper Dom. She has always yearned for her wildest dreams to come true, but after a man who was no Dom mistreats Ruby. She is a bit shy of the Dom/sub relationship. Then comes Joshua Quinn. A man who cows what he wants and never takes no for answer. He doesn't realize it yet but, Joshua has just met his match.
Joshua has got to be the most patient man on planet Earth.
I liked Ruby to begin with and understood some of her struggle but, right around the last third of the book I could no longer sympathize with her. I mean pull your big girl panties up Ruby and get your head out of your backside.
