“The point in history at which we stand is full of promise and danger. The world will either move forward toward unity and widely shared prosperity—or it will move apart.” President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Six Time Patrol Agents are sent to the same day, 14 February, in six different years to keep our history, and our timeline, from being destroyed.
1929. Gunmen massacre seven people in the infamous St. Valentines Day Massacre. Al Capone is consolidating his grip on the Outfit in Chicago.
1945. President Roosevelt, heading home from the Yalta Conference, stops on the Great Bitter Lake to meet King Idn Saud of Saudi Arabia to discuss a relatively new topic: Arab oil. And a Jewish homeland.
1779. Captain Cook, famed explorer of the Pacific, meets his fate in Hawaii.
278. Saint Valentine is beheaded near the Milvian Bridge.
1945. The Dresden Firebombing. Kurt Vonnegut is in a slaughterhouse as the first bombers appear overheard.
1946. The ENIAC computer, programmed by six women, is unveiled to the public. The press thinks the women are simply models.
The mission, as always for the Time Patrol, seems straight-forward: keep history intact. No matter the cost.
But this time, things go very differently than in previous missions and one of the team members must make the ultimate sacrifice.
Besides my own interests, I read whatever my wife tells me to read-- she's a voracious reader and has wide-ranging tastes as my reviews show (she also always has the TV remote and she's always right about what to watch). I read a lot of nonfiction, mostly for research. Some of my favorite books are Lonesome Dove, Mystic River, LOTR, and an array of science fiction classics including the Foundation series. Our house is covered with books, although I finally broke down and started reading eBooks, strangely enough on my iPhone. Since I carry it pretty much everywhere, it means I always have an entire library of books with me.
I'm a West Point graduate, former Green Beret and a New York Times Bestselling Author. I've sold over five million books. My newest series begins with New York Minute, a thriller set in New York City in 1977.
I love using history and science in my books. My Area 51 series pretty much had me rewriting our entire history of civilization.
Cumbersome, tedious, informative, and yet somehow compelling and satisfying.
VALENTINE'S DAY: TIME PATROL is a story told through many different points of view, and tries to accomplish that simultaneously. Needless to say, that can't be done in written format. Hence the cumbersomeness and tediosity of the book. I would've preferred Bob Meyer to not keep jumping around so much, but it is his creation, after all. The book coalesces at the end to bring the story to a well constructed conclusion. This seems to be an extension of Meyer's ATLANTIS series and the shuffling POV's are not bothersome in that series. There are copious facts presented, both historical and scientific, in those books as well as this series of books, albeit more so. I recommend anyone who likes this book read that series.
We all dream about time travel, wondering what would happen if some tragic events of the past could be changed or avoided.
Time Patrol of Bob Mayer travels into mankind history not changing it but keeping it intact for the sake of stability of present and future of our timeline.
Each book in Time Patrol is a kaleidoscope of incredible adventures, some sad, others funny and childish, but all of them superbly written.
I open each book of Bob Mayer anticipating the joy of his incredible imagination and superb writing and each of those books makes me happy longing for those probabilities to become a reality.
It was great story with lots of history. I can't wait for the next part to come out. As I noted before there are words in sentences that don't belong. A sentence with quotation marks started but never finishing where the conversation stopped. At the end it calls The Bounty; USS rather than the HMS that it is. Again Mr Mayer is a great writer. I loved other series and I truly hope this is just a glitch in the Kindle edition.
Always a great read when I pick up a Bob Mayer book. Started with area 51 series, then Nightstalkers, the Atlantis and Time Patrol. This book is fast paced and fun!
Really like these books. There entertaining and informative. A fun read all round. You would not go wrong reading this series. Highly, highly recommend you read all Mr mayer works. Keep on Truckee Mr.Mayer.
Love these books, the history, the adventure and the team. I am still confused so have to keep reading. Lara is now part of the team and active but don't know her story.
