Ghatotkacha

Rate this book
He may have looked like a demon, but Ghatotkacha was a guardian angel - always ready to help, always cheerful. The Pandava brother, Bheema, was lucky to have him as a son, for he saved his life more than once. And if it were not for this brave young rakshasa, the Kauravas may well have been the victors of the famous battle of Mahabharata.

Wonderful story about bravery when facing the unbeatable foe. It also teaches us that we should not base our opinion of others on their appearance. Ghatotkacha (G) is loyal and brave; but because of his horrifying appearance he is misjudged and not respected. The story of G forces us to look past appearances and 'see' what is in the heart.

This book contained all the major details of Bheema's demon son, Ghatotkacha, who is known to have destroyed a big part of the Kaurava army on the 16th day of the Mahabharata war. The part where Ghatotkacha squeezes Lakshmana's (Duryodhana's son) hand was really funny and it was good to see that Ghatotkacha had helped Subhadra as well. Overall, this book was great as it has all the major details about Ghatotkacha.

I didn't really enjoy this book. I picked it up thinking it would contain some story of Ghatotkacha's that I hadn't read before. But it was pretty much what is present everywhere else. I wasn't aware of the story of Abhimanyu, but that appears to be a folktale.

Overall, it didn't really have anything I hadn't heard before.

Filial love is very dear to the parents!

The filial love of Ghatotkacha helped his father, when his father was in trouble. Surely, he must have obtained his father's blessings - a blessed life!
