A weary father struggles to keep his two children safe, warm and entertained during Christmas-time inside a tiny mountain cabin during a brutally cold winter while something other than the wind howls in the forest outside their four walls.
I’ve been writing for many years, but only recently did I start publishing. Soon after that I was lucky enough to land a job as the Editorial Assistant for the Ralls County Herald-Enterprise. Now someone actually pays me to write, which is pretty cool. I graduated Wellsville Middletown High School in 1993, and after a short stint in the Army I traveled, mostly in the mid-west, though I've been as far north as Seattle and as far south as Pensacola. I haven’t done anything amazing like single-handedly save an entire tribe of Ugandan children from Ebola or serve overseas and save my entire squad from a tribe of Ugandan children with Ebola, but I love a good story, whether I’m reading one, or writing one.
Along with the independently published American Revenant zombie apocalypse series set in and around Hannibal, Missouri I dabble in horror, thrillers, and science-fiction, mostly in short stories. I’ve also written several short screenplays with plans to eventually script a feature-length film.
I live in Hannibal, MO with my wife, two daughters and one dog.
A family staying in a cabin up in the mountain. A man and his 2 kids spending Christmas living on limited means has to make do with what they have. A monster lurks outside. Great short story, I would like to see this expanded into a novel. Enjoyed this story.
