Philomena Black has decided the next step of her life includes being a bride. When she finds out that she’s been placed as a Mail Order Bride much more quickly than she expected, she’s off to Nebraska and her new life. Unfortunately, upon arrival, she finds that her new life isn’t going to be what she expected.
But Lewis Meyers has no desire to marry. Finding himself in charge of his brother’s children, and wanting to see them taken care of appropriately and to alleviate his responsibility with them, he uses an agency to hire a housekeeper. But marriage? No way!
As Philomena seeks an alternative to being a mere housekeeper, Lewis sees the men lining up to court her and finds himself inexplicably jealous. Soon his heart yearns for this wonderful young lady to become more than a children’s caretaker, but is it all too late?
The question remains: will Lewis ask for her hand in marriage? And, more than that, will Philomena accept?
Philomena’s story is one of the amazing tales in the Western romance collection, Young Love Historical Romance Volume 2, by #1 bestselling clean Christian romance authors, Misty Shae and Terri Grace.
Each story is a great read in itself, and can be read alone, or even better read them all as part of this adventurous feel good series.
How frightened Philomena must have been to come across country to be a mail order bride, and then to find out Lewis only wanted a housekeeper. Although, the author did not portray Philomena in that way, here she is in the west and no prospects of a husband to protect her. So, she accepts the housekeeper position for at least some money and a safe place to stay. Fortunately, the pastor's wife has something else in mind. Lewis comes to love his housekeeper and doesn't like the fact that men are coming around and courting the pretty housekeeper. Lewis's thoughts are hilarious because there is no way any man can keep himself completely separate from his household. I like Philomena, but had trouble even liking Lewis because of his stupid thoughts. It's a good story with a typical mail order bride ending.
This is a very short read. It didn’t seem long enough for the couple to develop real love for one another but enough of a read to get the picture. Regardless, I love all pure read mail order bride stories. They always leave a smile on my face when I’m finished reading.
I love these stories that can be read in an afternoon. It is so easy to get caught up in the romance and particular challenges of Philomena and Lewis and the kind people helping with them. Actually, two of these short and sweet romances could be finished in an afternoon. Misty Shea is a master storyteller.
A nice quick read in between testing kids. I expected a much longer book when I downloaded, but I am glad that it was one that I could finish in a short reading. Loved the strength of Philomena who knew her worth as a woman and a potential wife. She didn't just settle.
