I hadn't heard of this author until a friend sent me her copy which she treasured but was now ready to share. She thought I'd enjoy it and she was right. I have enjoyed reading this delightful book. It's from a bygone era yet remains modern as in today's busy stressed lives city dwellers continue to look for an 'Escape to the Country' . Roberts in a wonderfully chatty style relates his sudden yen for a cottage in the country. The way in which he becomes an owner of Pilgrim Cottage and the adventures of discovery in the realm of gardening are amusing delightful moments. So too his discovery of his neighbours and the wisdom of octogenarians and a nonagenarian living nearby. The country tales surrounding folk lore interspersed on his gardening journey and around his discoveries of landmarks around the area in which his cottage is placed. I'm delighted to find that a publisher is reprinting some of this author's work and will ad him to my list of authors to keep reading.
