"I love this series! If you are a fan of Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake" series, you will most definitely like Rune Alexander!"~Niya
Rune Alexander captured a dangerous prisoner and turned her over to the Annex, unaware of the trouble that act would unleash on her Crew...
A small, dangerous group has slipped into River County, determined to retrieve Lee Crane from the Annex.
But Eugene has no intention of handing over his prisoner.
Then the group takes something that's precious to Rune. Something that breathes, and cries, and bleeds.
She pressures Eugene to make a trade--and prepares to take the decision out of his hands if he refuses.
But when he unintentionally loses their leverage, Rune and her crew must race against time to break down a wall of magic and save the battered life behind it.
And that may not be possible. Not even for Shiv Crew.< br/>

Laken was first published in 2008. After a few exciting years with her publishers, she struck out on her own to write the now complete Rune Alexander series, and never looked back.
She shares her Ohio home with three spoiled dogs, two fish, and a tenacious African Violet. She drinks too much coffee and continues burning up the keys of her trusty laptop, getting the stories out of her head and into her readers' hands.
I'm sitting here thinking about what I just read and trying to let my mind rest but it just won't let go. Ms. Cane has written another excellent chapter in the lives of Shiv Crew. What surprised me the most was that this book contained an epilogue and all loose ends were tired up in a neat bow. Is this really the end or will we be surprised yet again? Bravo Laken Cane!!!
What a read, ive read every book in the series and I swear every book is better and better. Rune is one hell of a person and monster!! She loves her crew and would go to battle for anyone!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Hanging out with my Shiv Crew, feels so good!!! I couldn't wait another second to read this one; when I received it, I tried so hard to savor it in delicious morsels rather than a thoughtless devour. It, uh.. kind of worked out... This lovely installment picks up right where we left off, and the name of the game is angst and darkness right away.
Characters who you thought you knew so well are showing growth, along with new and surprising sides of their personalities. It is interesting to watch how the same traumatic event effects and plays out in different people/characters (immediately and further down the line). Jack has a breakthrough moment in this one, and I develope this new love for him.
This book stays at a level 10, and I just can't relax when there is so much tension, and so much is at stake. How can one not love a series that jacks you up like that?! Rune is the badass to end all badasses, but this book pours emotion. So much of Rune's heart is on the chopping block in this one; so many different people hold pieces of this vulnerable heart.
BTW, could Kader and Grim be any cuter, anymore badass amazing?! It's hilarious how Rune talks to the year old Kader like she's nine. I talk to my neices and nephew like their adults, and they're smarter for it; no wonder Kader is a genius. I love these characters, love these books. Did I mention that I love these novels?!?! ❤️
The Rune Alexander series has to be one of the most brilliantly written paranormal series I have ever read. From the beginning, it is the fastest-paced, take-no-prisoners, no one is safe kind of read. The author has an incredible ability of writing that weaves these threads throughout the main storyline. These bits might not get their endings until future books, but when they do, it is so worth the wait. Book 10 is no exception. We finally get some of the answers, but not all. Which is great because it means Rune's journey isn't over! This time, we get to learn more about Kader, Rune's heart is wickedly tested, something that has weighed heavily on Rune since she had lost it finds its way back to her, and there is a heart-stopping shock to the system at the very end. While Rune and her team fight to get back what was stolen from them, the reader is whipped through the story at a breakneck speed. This is the kind of book you cannot put down, so be prepared and plan accordingly. I loved this book. Even after 10 books, the journey hasn't slowed, and Rune is still never safe. She is tested in every way possible in this book. And she may be losing the one person she cannot live without. I am hoping it is only temporary, but with Rune, you never know. If you can't quite remember all the previous books, it wouldn't hurt to brush up on at least the previous few. If you love a book that breaks the rules, Rune is for you. Such an amazing ride! Be prepared for an ending you never saw coming. You have been warned.
LAKEN CANE IS FINISHING UP THE LAST SILVERLIGHT BOOK AND THEN CONCENTRATING ON THE LAST RUNE ALEXANDER BOOK .
And now don't read further is you don't like spoilers
So I just read the last book of shiv crew and I wonder is this the last ? I am happy with the ending and also not. Maybe because I am a Z lover... but beserker was her love but is he really her soulmate ? I feel like Z was her soul mate and like I said maybe I am biased but the moment Rune realized she loved Z she couldn't let him go and it showed in everything she did. Even the ring Beserker got her was intwined with the ring Z got her. It feels like he will always compete with Z so is that real love ?. Yes I know that Z lost his memories of Rune but like he said he would always know he loved her. So everything is possible right? Also for me I really like to know who Kaders daddy is. Then there is Lex... I feel like the story did not have the happy ending I wanted and What will happen to Ellis.... who will die ?
Shiv Crew is always there to fight and protect - whether it’s for mankind or Other - but you’ve never seen Shiv Crew in action until someone takes one of theirs! Chasing Darkness is book 10 in the Rune Alexander series and sees the Crew in their most vulnerable position ever as they work to save a teammate and friend. All bets are off when the Crew is double-crossed by someone on the inside.
This is a fast-paced, mile-a-minute read with everything a fan of Shiv Crew would expect but with jaw-dropping surprises. I loved the development of Kader, who is just an awesome kiddo and will likely have her own series one day. But best of all…. Berserker is very much back!
I absolutely love the Rune Alexander Series. After each book, I often wonder how Laken will be able to top the most recent events. Well let me tell you, she NEVER disappoints. Book 10 is absolutely fantastic!! I love how each book continues to develop this beautifully dark and dangerous story of Rune's world. Being able to learn more about the characters (and there are so many!) it is mesmerizing. Yes, this has been one hell of a roller coaster ride from Book 1 to 10, but I don't see this coaster slowing down anytime soon. Definitely fast paced and sure to keep you up way past your bedtime! Bravo Laken!! Can't wait for the next masterpiece!
I'm not sure how, but somehow I stumbled upon the Rune Alexander books and at the time there was about 6 of them out and I read them all in a week. Don't regret a minute of that week. Or this day. Yea It was my birthday today I treat myself to Rune and The Shiv Crew.
It was fantastic. This whole series is. The whole book really kept me entrapped. I can't wait for more to know more about Kader, Baby Reign, where is Ellis going? Who is death going to take. All these questions
The end made me smile though. Not a bad cliffhanger:) Laken...get to writing
Perhaps my favorite of the series. Rue is a decent person finally, the baby is cute, there is a lot of bonding, and I love the Assassin. I honestly could care less about a certain someone back in her life as i was never a big fan and wish she would get more with Will, but the bond they all have is strong and really comes through with this one. The battle is the most epic of any book in the series and was awesome. We finally get a team reveal with Roma. There is a big twist with Annex and it was not fully surprising, but also a bit sad. The battle and the team standing together? Again, definitely my favorite of the series. Rune comes into new awesome powers as well.
There are books you where you end it then there are books that you wish that would never end! This Series is these books! I have never in my life ever gotten so hooked on a book that I cry when I'm done with it and not cause it was sad. Laken is an amazing writer that has been blessed with ability to be able to pull you into another world and makes you loose focus on the real one!
Kader is just a shining star in Rune’s dark world. Even when she chills out and does better, her daughter is like a balm that makes it easier to take on all the other bad stuff.
The twists in here were crazy cool. I enjoyed the bad stuff because they weren’t SO bad that I felt effected and affected. I enjoyed watching Rune with her people. It was just overall cool.
Laken Cane is a genius! I experienced every emotion reading Chasing Darkness. Rune Alexander is one woman you don't want to mess with. She is fierce, loyal and will let no one stand in her way of protecting her loved ones and getting what she wants. This book ripped me apart and put me back together like no other. I highly recommend this book and this series.
Laken always comes put swinging and she didn't disappoint at all! Rune is always doing something and it wears me out just reading about what she goes through! The love, loyalty and devotion in this book will you smiling and of course, it wouldn't be a Rune Alexander without bloody violence! The ending is dare I say sweet?
Would expect no less another awesome read!! Laken does not dissappoint, this series seriously just gets better and better. Fights scenes keep you on the edge , but its the characters love for each other as family that makes these books so great. Addicting really. Great job, im waiting for the next one.
Solid 5 star! Ms. Cane does not disappoint. The battles the crew faces, their personal demons, new and old villains, constant emotional turmoil, and amazing new surprises in the characters keeps this series alive and going strong. I love me the Shiv Crew in all their good and bad. Can't wait for more!!!
Many detractors want Rune’s life, one wants it in payment for Rune’s actions years ago and his partner wants Rune to get her mother, Lee Crane from Annex but a single-minded Eugene makes that impossible. The black-haired baby gets a name and much more while yet another betrayal has Rune and her crew re-evaluating enemy classifications and rankings. Rating: 4.25stars
Action packed with a twisting plot this one grabs you and doesn't let go! Well written, as you would expect from Laken Cane! Just excellent, Spector those of us who like the Anita Blake Series!
Laken Cane just doesn't disappoint. Her books are beautifully written. She transports you into Runes world without flaw. The Rune Alexander series is a definite must have!
I just love this series. Can't get enough. Well written , action packed, emotionally filled and very entertaining. The characters are well thought out and bring a great balance to each book
Another exciting experience with Rune Alexander! Such strong characters that never fail to excite and amaze me. Sad that there is just one book of adventure to read
Man oh man…. I love the new editions and feel so sad about the losses when it comes to the people gone. I guess I just expect the betrayals that Rune has to deal with. The Witch’s Daughter made me really sad! The ending of this book made me really sad too! Though I suppose it makes some people happy—the leather jacket and Z’s Christmas present. I just wanted to cry~ Not looking forward to how the Berserker has changed just no betrayal there too much to ask? Silly thing to wish for a Dark UF right?! I loved the ending and the nifty surprises we got to see. I can’t wait to see what she does with the babies in later books. I know they most likely will make me weepy, but whatever. I think this is the only series where I enjoy the angst.
