Jason Lex just saved the world. Now he's immersed in training as a new Rampart Guard to protect the shield that enables humans and cryptids like Skyfish, Bigfoot, and the Black Shuck to live side by side and danger-free. A summons from the League of Governors, the clandestine organization that presides over the human-cryptid treaty, takes a suspicious turn when Jason's dad and sister disappear on their way to League headquarters. Jason must find them before things go bad, so he follows their trail to London where he discovers the League of Governors may not be the benevolent organization everyone believes.
Injured and alone, Jason doesn't know whom to trust. After a shocking loss sends him reeling, news about his family forces Jason to make a terrible choice. When he learns of a secret plan to enslave the world, Jason must risk his life to defeat a powerful enemy and reunite what's left of his family. But can he stop a dominating adversary and again save the world before it's too late?

This is book two in The Adventures of Jason Lex series. If you haven't read book one, I'd recommend picking it up first! Book two begins with Jason training to be a Rampart Guard to protect the world from cryptids like Bigfoot and Cappas. After the events of the first book, Della is still severely depressed, so Jason's dad takes her to The League of Governors headquarters in London. They're hoping to get treatment for Della, but Jason's dad and Della disappear after they arrive.
Jason and Uncle Alexander hop a plane to London to find them, but things get even stranger. The passcode to get into League headquarters has been changed, and when they visit a friend of Uncle Alex's, they're attacked. Jason wakes up in the medical unit at League headquarters, where he's warned that things at the League aren't as they seem.
This was a great book for fans of the YA, adventure, and paranormal genres. It was an entertaining read that kept me hooked with twists and turns and betrayals! Jason is fourteen, but he faced choices and situations that would disturb an adult. He faced it maturely and that was refreshing. I loved Colleen, such a brave girl in a quiet way, and hope we get to see her again. Again, the identity of the 'big bad' was a surprise, and there were some revelations near the end that were pretty unexpected.
The narration was really well done, Brian Callanan performed voices for men, women, and younger children, and had a distinct voice for each of them. They fit the characters well, and I enjoyed his English accents. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
I always suspected there was something about the Tower of London...and now I know what it is. It's the home of the League of Governors and the perfect setting for Jason Lex's next adventure. While Sadie confronts her own perils back in Salton, Jason is off to London with Uncle Alexander to find out exactly is going on with Dad and Della. Once again he discovers that the world is far more complicated than he ever imagined--and once again the fate of not just his family but the entire world depends on his ability to outthink, outrun, and outlast mysterious forces he doesn't yet fully understand. It's a lot to ask of a 14-year-old boy, but he has friends to help--including Raymond and Colette, two new and engaging characters in the series.
Jason wears his heroism lightly, which is part of what makes him so appealing. He's a normal, impulsive, inquisitive teenager--who also has out-of-the-ordinary powers to protect and repair the Rampart that keeps the human and cryptid worlds in equilibrium. It's great fun to see the world through his eyes.
I read "The League of Governors" after "The Clan Calling," so I knew what was going on simultaneously back in Salton with Sadie an the rest of the characters from "The Rampart Guards." It doesn't really matter which order you read the books in, as long as you have the other one ready to go as soon as you finish the first one.
I hope we don't have long to wait for the next (and last) book in the series, so we can find out what happens to Jason and Sadie!
This book continues the ‘adventures’, or in this case the “misadventures” of Jason Lex. Jason’s father and sister, Della, flew to London to seek counseling help at the League of Governors. Jason has cause to be concerned when he and his Uncle Alexander can’t reach his father by phone. They decide to follow to London to make sure everything is alright. They quickly learn that things are not all right.
Jason and his Uncle are attacked. When he awakes he is at the League and learns that Uncle Alexander is in a coma. A stranger sneaks him a secret message and Jason doesn’t know who he can trust. Jason struggles trying to determine how he can save his family, and the world, from enslavement by a super powerful, mind controlling enemy.
I am glad that I listened to book one before book two. It was a little hard and frustrating imagining Jason fighting alone. The story goes on quite a bit with danger and little hope of a positive resolution. This makes it a bit dark. Still, I enjoyed the helpful characters and wondering how the other creatures might help defeat the evil. Again, I think middle graders would enjoy the danger and excitement… and it is adequately entertaining for an adult as well.
Audio Notes: Brian Callanan again does a good job with the narration, giving voices to the characters. His strong narration makes the story a fun listening experience. I enjoyed listening to both books.
I received this audio title from the narrator through AudioBook Boom.
If you have not read book 1 - "The Rampart Guards" - then stop now, and go read or listen to them. Now! What are you waiting for? This book as well as "The Clan Calling" will not make much sense without reading it.
The League of Governors picks up where Rampart Guards left off, and then Wendy Terrien raises the stakes to a whole new level. This book I felt did a good job at keeping my reading and on the mental edge of my seat. The danger and feeling that Jason was up against overwhelming odds really added to the intensity of this book.
One thing I noticed more than I remember noticing in Book 1 is the slightly more mature edge in the books. There is light swearing, the topic of torture and murder though not explicitly described. Overall this did not bother me but may raise the age of readers I would recommend this book to.
Brian Callanan did an excellent job of narrating this book. He definitely created the exact right tone for the book which made immersion into the story much easier.

I submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this book.
This series, along with the Rampart Guards, has been fantastic, with this story the best yet. I ponder what age group this series is targeted at, as although the main character Jason Lex, is supposed to be 14, the situations represented may be traumatic for a person of that age, reading some of the scenarios portrayed. The plot is dramatic and suspenseful, making it difficult to put down. I do other chores whilst listening to the audiobooks, so washing clothes and floors is no longer a chore. I found I read the night away, I was so engrossed. Again, I admire and applaud the skills of the narrator, handling the various voices of the characters, with apparant ease, which adds so much to the enjoyment of reading.
I had mixed feelings about the age of the hero after book one, and I still do to some extent, but that's resolving to some extent because of how well the books are written and how well Jason is coping with everything that's happening.
Speaking of happenings... there is a lot happening in this book, talk about big and complex, this story does not hold back. It's a trilling, grip the edge of your seat ride from beginning to end.
The characters are complex and the moral lessons within the story are compelling.
The narration is excellent, the character voices are great and the emotions of the characters and the story in general are conveyed.

Jason Lex is coming to terms with his mother’s betrayal and his new powers. His dad and sister are summoned to London by the League of Government. Soon Jason is worried when he does not hear from them as he and his Uncle Alexander fly to London but then find themselves caught in the mess.
Once again Jason has to save the world from evil as he must distinguish between what is true in a world of mind influencing serum. Will he be able tosave the ones he loves?
I wrote a review long ago, but for some reason it did not post. So here goes again....I am sure there are things I’m forgetting to include this time. Audible gives a fairly decent synopsis as do a few other reviewer’s so I will not expand on that. I never read/ listened to Book 1: The Rampart Guards. There are some things I need expanded upon and gaps filled by reading the first book, yet I did not have a problem understanding this story. It is a parallel story to Book 3: The Clan Calling.
This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and was wondering if I should listen to another because I found Jason irritating and his constant back and forth between loyalties and actions frustrating. However, I next listened to Book 3: The Clan Calling. I’m glad I did. Jason was put in a tough situation, but he kept allowing everyone to sway him. When speaking to one group of people he’d believe them and do as they recommended, then when he spoke to someone else he’d believe the first were lying and believe the second and do as they recommended. It also took way too long for him to figure out what was going on with his Uncle. I felt like yelling at the book and telling him to “smarten up and pay attention”. Listening to Book 3 made me realize it was not so much poor writing as a character that was written with flaws. I’m now more interested in listening to Book 1.
This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator (Brian Callanan) and I would listen to another. He did a pretty good job giving each character an individual voice. His pacing was good although I preferred to listen on 1.25 speed.
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review. Story 4/5 Narration 4/5
•audiobook• Usually, the first book in a series is "okay", and the story/author grows stronger and better. In this case, the first book is the best of the three. I should have stopped after listening to the first one. Ironically, I was offered credits for the second and third audiobooks and decided to pick up the first. So, it was no skin off my nose, just mediocre time fillers as I worked in my yard. Jason's actions and thoughts seemed to flip flop; he didn't become a stronger, wiser, or better person. Well, he did, then he regressed, then he took a half step forward then slipped back four. It was very uneven and confusing. And disappointing. Mr Callanan is a wonderful narrated and wasted his talent and time with this series.
