I LOVED how this book explained what Sadie was going to tell Jason at the end of League. Such a great addition to the series. Ms. Terrien better get the next book out stat!

This is book three in The Adventures of Jason Lex series. If you haven't read the others, I'd recommend starting with the first book. This book explains what Sadie was up to in Salton Idaho while Jason Lex was in London. It doesn't contain any spoilers for Jason's story so it could be listened to after book one, The Rampart Guards. Sadie was my favorite character in the first book and I was happy to see her have her own story!

When the story begins, life has gone back to normal for Sadie. One day after school, she comes home to find her grandma collapsed on the floor and a strange older man with his hands on her grandma's throat. Sadie leaps into action and drives the man away. Sadie's grandma is taken to the hospital, but the doctors can't find anything wrong with her.

At home, strange things begin to happen to Sadie's grandma and everyone around her. Sadie starts to suspect that she's the cause of it all. When she finally learns a dark family secret, she's heartbroken and forced to make a choice between saving herself or staying to fight for her family.

Sadie intrigued me in the first book, she's a martial arts loving computer geek with a mysterious past. She was home schooled and couldn't leave the town limits. I couldn't add up all the little clues myself. When her backstory was revealed, I thought it was a great twist. I loved the two sweet squabbling grandmothers, and Brandon was too cute!

I do think this series is for older YA readers, even though the characters are fourteen they all dealt with some adult issues. One theme running throughout these books is that adults, especially parents, lie or are untrustworthy. There were a few heartbreaking moments that had me tearing up. It was a great read and the mystery had me listening all day, while hoping it wouldn't end.

The narration was excellent as usual, Brian Callanan did a great job with the character voices, especially Sadie's voice. They were consistent not just through the book, but through the entire series. He pulled me right into the story and kept me engaged the entire time. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

I first fell in love with Sadie in the first book of this series, "The Rampart Guards," and I was thrilled when she got her own story to headline. Sadie is nobody's sidekick--she's a funny, smart, courageous, ass-kicking hero in her own right. While Jason has to travel across the Atlantic for the next episode of his adventure, trouble comes looking for Sadie right at home, in not-so-quiet Salton.

It's exhilarating to follow Sadie on her journey as she confronts truths about her family and herself that she never suspected. I was also happy to be reunited with other familiar characters from "The Rampart Guards," including Mamo and Mrs. Fallon as well as the dogs Shay and Finn, who once again are Sadie's faithful friends and protectors.

One of the pleasures of reading this book is the way it subtlely intertwines with "The League of Governors" and Jason's simultaneous exploits in London. It doesn't really matter which order you read the books in, but if you read "Clan Calling" first you'll want to have "League" close at hand so you can dive into that story just as soon as you've finished Sadie's saga.

I can't wait for the concluding book in the series to find out what happens next to both Jason and Sadie!

This book follows on from book one but changes to following Sadie instead of Jason. It takes place in the same time frame as 'The League of Governors' which follows Jason.

I was impressed with this story, it took small details from book one and created a compelling story line about Sadie, her family, and her families history. Far from being a sidekick in the series this book set up Sadie as a key player in her own right.

It was compelling listening with many things not happening as I was expecting them to, I liked that it kept me guessing.

The narration is excellent, once again Brian delivered clear and distinct character voices and the delivery really helped draw me into the book.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Although this is book 2, the previous book only barely gets a mention, with this story concentrated basically on Sadie, and changes in her life, due to inherited powers she had, up until now been aware off.
I listened to the audio rendition of this book, enjoying it immensely, due to the diversity of voices used and the drama the reading enhanced .
I am looking forward to the next book in the series, to see if Sadie, together with her friends, can catch the current leader and prevent future assassinations being carried out to ensure that the current leader is not overthrown.

My review is based on the Audiobook. A great continuation from Book 1. There is so much pressure on Sadie in this story and she just wants to live a normal teen life. I love seeing the characters develop more in this story. I like that the fantasy does not take over this story. The narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the story and characters to life. Looking forward to more.

I wrote a review long ago, but for some reason it did not post. So here goes again....I am sure there are things I’m forgetting to include this time. Audible gives a fairly decent synopsis as do a few other reviewer’s so I will not expand on that.
I never read/ listened to Book 1: The Rampart Guards. There are some things I need expanded upon and gaps filled by reading the first book, yet I did not have a problem understanding this story. It is a parallel story to Book 3: The Clan Calling.

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and was wondering if I should listen to another because I found Jason irritating and his constant back and forth between loyalties and actions frustrating. However, I next listened to Book 3: The Clan Calling. I’m glad I did. Jason was put in a tough situation, but he kept allowing everyone to sway him. When speaking to one group of people he’d believe them and do as they recommended, then when he spoke to someone else he’d believe the first were lying and believe the second and do as they recommended. It also took way too long for him to figure out what was going on with his Uncle. I felt like yelling at the book and telling him to “smarten up and pay attention”. Listening to Book 3 made me realize it was not so much poor writing as a character that was written with flaws. I’m now more interested in listening to Book 1.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator (Brian Callanan) and I would listen to another. He did a pretty good job giving each character an individual voice. His pacing was good although I preferred to listen on 1.25 speed.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

This was the worst out of the series.
Sadie became a shadow of the person she used to be. She was mostly spineless throughout the book and indecisive. We don't find a wiser and more mature Sadie who lived through the first book.
Her grandmother was even more flawed and different from the first book. In this one, she claims her secrets were to "shelter" Sadie, yet she's happy when Sadie makes a decision blatantly the opposite of the reason why the truth was kept from her!
To ponder the three books, the first was the best of the series. It was better plotted and written. The League and The Calling are a shoddy attempt to the series.
I could still recommend the first book. (It was a stand alone.) From there, it seems like the author was jumping in the bandwagon to create a series ... but fell behind the carriage and face planted in the dust.
Mr Callanan did more justice for the book and characters than it deserved.
