He came back to be with his “soulmate” but spent nearly until the end sexing up the “town slut”. The guy went on and on about how beautiful and sexy the ow was and how she was a great lay and gave the best blowjobs. In the meantime he also is “fighting” to get h back but enjoying sex with ow, a woman he knows h hates and apparently he doesn’t like but I’d do sexually attracted to he can’t resist as soon as she offers him a bj or sex. What kind of a moron thinks it’s ok to chase his ex whilst still thinking there is nothing wrong about sexing up another woman at the same time?? He says he’s technically a single guy but then why chase h and try to convince her you love her madly but at the same time can’t keep your d**k away from ow? This was disgusting and not a romance. The h was pathetic for not making a bigger issue of the fact he was sleeping with ow whilst pursuing her. I know now this author is not for me!

Soooooooooooo many issues with this book. . .

Actual rating: ZERO STARS

WELCOME TO SPOILER TOWN. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!

This book is entitled His Obsession . Apparently, when you are obsessed with someone, you spend as much time and energy as you can by fucking someone else. Just saying.

Jake is back in town, and we're introduced to him in Chapter 1 when he comes into Mia's bakery to see her. For me, this visit felt as though he was just re-entering town, and that seeing Mia was his first stop. As I continued reading I found out that I was wrong. Turns out that by this point Jake had been in town for a while. But anyway, one of the main things I noticed in this first chapter was that Jake was quick to make a declaration of love for Mia, saying: "We have loads to talk about. . .For example how I never stopped loving you." So I said to myself, that this author is actually going to write a book about a hero obsessed with his number one lady love. Awesome!

How wrong I was.

My spidey senses started tingling as soon as I reached Chapter 3. "Welcome back, Jakey. . ." Sofia purred in his ear as she placed a well-manicured hand on his shoulder. So I'm thinking, Oh shit, here we go! And we did. But first, Jake again declares: "One way or another, I will win you back, Mia. . .I've made plenty of mistakes in my life but leaving you was the biggest one." Then at the beginning of Chapter 4, he thinks to himself Mia [is] my soulmate. He sounds like a winner, right? Wrong.

Because also in this chapter, we catch back up with Sofia, who we first met in Chapter 3. Here is how our so-called hero described Sofia: Sofia was a hot girl and she could be a lot of fun, but most of her talents landed themselves to the bedroom where she did not need to do much talking. I tried not to spend any more time with her than was necessary without putting something in her mouth. . .It was obvious that Sofia knew I was only using her until I got back with Mia. Oh, and if that's not enough to make you hate this guy, how about this: Not only was she someone that Mia hated with a fiery passion, but she was also Donovan's ex-girlfriend. FYI, Donovan is Mia's twin brother, and supposedly one of Jake's "best and oldest friends." Does he need any more reasons to NOT choose Sofia as the one person to have as a fuck-buddy??

Long story short (because I am increasingly losing my patience with writing this review about this horrible book) Jake continually goes on and on about how much he enjoys fucking Sofia. She is such a talented lover. She knows how to suck dick. She has all kinds of addictive acrobatic tricks in bed. She's enticed him into dabbling into BDSM with her. Oh, Sofia this, and Sofia that! And, people, details are NOT spared in these numerous Jake/Sofia sexual encounters. Sometimes, they go on and on for pages and pages!

After reading, I am convinced that Sofia is His Obsession , not Mia. And for her part, for all her talk and refusals of getting back with Jake the Snake, Mia finally does. Even knowing that the entire time that he's been back in town "trying to win her back," he's been fucking Sofia.

Goodreads needs to add a zero-star rating.

Just ok for me ...

I had really high hopes for this story but unfortunately it was just ok for me. Mainly because I feel I got an unedited version of the story- wrong words, major typos and the heroine's mother is referred to as Sandra in one chapter and Jen later in the book. ...also I was told they were both celibate and in talking to someone else who read it, it was said she hasn't been with anyone in 5 years but that is NOT in my version- I read it twice! That being said in going to review the copy I read.

I never could understand the premise that a man had to break up with a woman because he joined the military. He loved her so much yet he joined the military and chose to leave her behind. I can understand her being angry. However, what I can't understand is purposely keeping the fact he had a child from him. So not cool. Barring a few circumstances (if he is dangerous or abusive for example) I don't feel a woman should make that kind of decision for a man. She didn't want him to leave the military and come back to her just because of a child - well tough, swallow your pride and let him make his own choices.

I was told that they were both celibate, however upon reading it, she was with one other person. It wasn't clear if he had been but he had a condom in his pocket and I would venture to guess if you've been celibate 4 years, you don't carry them around but who knows.

-ow drama - the "town slut" kept flirting with him and at one point kissed him. He freaked and pushed her away. He did nothing to encourage her.
-no om drama
-heroine tries to push hero away
-just ok epilogue, not very far into the future

This was a big fat DNF for me. I got to 50% and said " I'm done with this trash!" Got really sick of hearing the H talk about how much he loved the h, while he was screwing the town whore and then loses his shit when the h starts dating someone else. I had to quit reading because I knew they would end up together eventually and that thought made me wanna puke. After reading some other reviews of this author, I see that "not safe" seems to be her MO, so I'll be adding her to my "do not read list".

Mia and Jake

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I didn’t really enjoy it as Much as I thought I would. As soon as I read the part where Jake fallowed Sofia into the work bathroom I wanted to stop reading and delete the book. Mia was his world he loved her so much yet he threw Sofia in her face every time he got the chance and had sex with her. In my opinion he should have concentrated on getting Mia back and not led Sofia on he didn’t even like her and new Mia hated her. If he wanted Mia so badly he shouldn’t want sex with anyone else it just doesn’t add up in my opinion makes no sense for that reason I gave this book only two stars

DNF! Didn’t even read like 5 chapters... if I could give it 0 Stars... I would..
H claims to be in love with this girl and says that she is his soulmate and no one else for him.
In the book there is basically the town "skank" that’s hitting on him all the time, to start with he rejects her but basically a chapter later he is getting a blowjob from her saying how hot she is and that she gives the best blowjobs.
I stopped after this, I felt sick..
sorry author, you’re on my do not read again list.

Reading a couple of other review's I'm wondering if I read the same book or its been edited/re-written? I'm checking, hang on....

Not sure but comparing notes with some of the very thorough reviews, it would seem it's been scrubbed clean of ow drama completely, so it reads nothing like how some of the reviewers have described it. Not sure if the edit is what made this a super short read, just something sneaky about changing the book so materially.

I loved J.L. Beck’s “His Obsession”. It was so good that I couldn’t help but re-read this story over and over. Jake is back home for good and realizes he wants to get back with Mia, the girl he left behind but first he has to find her. He broke her heart some 4 years before but he thought he was doing the right thing while doing it then when he left to join the military. Now he is home and he is ready to claim Mia for he never forgot his love. Mia refuses to let anyone have her, her or her heart because of how Jake broke her heart. Both were faithful to one another not realizing they were still faithful. Mia is a strong woman, especially after all that she has gone thru. See Jake left her something when he broke her heart and left her behind. What will Jake do when he realizes what all he left behind? Will Mia let Jake back into her heart and her life?
This is a Beautiful and emotional 2nd chance romance for 2 people who never gave up on love and on each other . How they ended back up together is beautiful in the telling- That’s not to say there isn’t anger and angst in the beginning but overall its emotional and filled with love , joy, and forgiveness. And Lola is adorable… she will steal your heart as she did everyone else’s.

This is a short quick second chance at love romance. Jake left Mia 4 years ago after joining the military. He thought it would be better for her after he realized that he was going be serving in a combat unit. When he left he didn't know she was pregnant. Four years later, Jake returns and he wants Mia back. Mia was crushed when Jake left. When he returns she is still angry and hurt. Jake has to do some groveling and convincing to win her back. With some work and minor obstacles they do get their HEA

I loved Jake and Mia's story. I have always loved JL Beck's books and this is no exception. Jake left Mia when they were younger to join the military. He did it to protect Mia at the time but he didn't explain, he just left breaking her heart. Trying to mourn the loss of Jake, Mia finds out shes pregnant and now more than ever she's through with Jake, or so her minds says, but her heart says different. This is an a story of true love and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Um, I'm out of words. To be honest I didn't finish this one. I just couldn't. When I see a seconcd chance romance I expect a romance not a man who wants his second chance but until the moment will come he can fuck an other woman. And ok, he does it once, twice but come one I was like at the 35% of the book and they fucking like rabbits but he still try to win the heroine....
Really I can't understand it but it's the author's imagination and the brain actually is free to work as it pleases. Some people like it and some people don't.

Waste of Time..

This book ended at 50% by the way, the rest is just fillers. Secondly, the writing is so juvenile it was cringeworthy. The dialogue was just plain asinine. There are spelling and grammatical errors interspersed with rudimentary reasonings. Mia, the heroine behaved like a six years old with a temper tantrum. Without resolving the abandonment issue the H and h were having sex like bunny rabbits. Not only that, their daughter's age was really not determined. She should be three, but she was talking like a thirteen year old. This is a mockery of what a book should be. Wasting of my precious time.

For me, this was a fair read but not one that would encourage me to purchase this author again. There were way too many grammatical errors and missing words making this experience anything but a smooth read. The ending came upon me quickly and I would have liked seeing a bit of their journey, especially telling the family.

I liked this short story. I liked the storyline and both hero and heroine. The only thing that irritated me was that I wanted Mia to hurry up and get back with Jake. I could see sparks of chemistry between them and was rooting for them to get together. I liked the relationship/bond Jake formed with Lola and would’ve liked more scenes of them together.
I wasn’t a fan of Sophie and wished someone would give her a slap!
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an enjoyable read.

Four years ago Jake left to join the military. Now he is back and determined to win the woman he loves back. Mia was heartbroken when Jake left, but she powered through when she learned of her pregnancy. Four years later and Jake is back in her life. When Jake turns up at her bakery she makes it known that she hates him. But with the secret of her daughter she soon finds herself with him again. Will Mia truly give Jake a second chance? Will Jake get his girls for forever?

JL Beck has written a great love story. I enjoyed reading this book.
Love can withstand the test of time, a man's stupidity (even if he thinks it right thing to do), a young woman's broken heart filled with love and a pregnant.
Jake and Mia wear lovers in high school but Jake joined the military and broke up with Mia. Thinking it was for the better.
You will never guess how Jake reacts to Mia having a baby girl not knowing it was his baby girl. Look out. If you thought he wanted he back when he first came home you have to see what he thinks when he finally figures it out Lola is his baby girl as well. Does Mia let Jake back into her heart for a second time?
This is a must read, its a short story and you will love all that Jake and Mia do to get back to their HEA.
I voluntary review this ARC copy.

I know this is supposed to be a novella of sorts or a short story but I would’ve loved to see a lot more from this story. There were so many things I felt were left out and I craved the emotions I knew I’d get from those situations. I’m an absolute sucker for hidden baby romances and I loved this one. But I want more! I hate that it ended at about 50%. I would have rather it go for the full length than get that extra book.

Another hit for me. Jake comes back from the military and straight into Mia's life again. These two have amazing chemistry together, even after all the years apart and the history the have. Things have definitely changed and Mia has a big secret. I loved the story and the second chance that Mia and Jake have together. Can't wait for the next one!

Holy wowza!!! This book sucks you in and doesn't let you go till the end. I absolutely loved it! It has just the right amount of drama to keep it interesting but not enough to make it unrealistic. I think this might be my new favorite by J.L. Beck!

I was obsessed with His Obsession. Jake is back home for good and is ready to claim the woman he left behind. Jake thought he was doing the right thing four years ago when he broke Mia's heart and left to join the military. He never forgot her and knew he would be back the first chance he could. Mia refuses to let anyone have her heart again, especially the Jake. Even if he's back and not the young guy who left her heartbroken and shredded. He's a man now and is determined to break down her walls. Mia has to be careful because her life is no longer her own and Jake will have to decide if he's willing to share Mia.

His Obsession is the best J.L. Beck has written to date. We are guaranteed alpha males, steamy scenes, instalove and HEA's in her stories and His Obsession is the best one so far.

El libro resumido en una cita:

"I could easily give Jake a call and he would come right over and do anything I wanted, even with the scent of Sofia still on his body. And I wouldn’t care about it."

En conclusión Mia es una tarada que regresa con su ex, quien mientas trata de conquistarla pasa la mayor parte del libro teniendo una relación con Sofía ( vi mas una relación entre Sofía y el H que entre H/h)

This is another example of JL Beck's writing that is short, sweet, and to the point. I've read a number of her other books, and it's one of the better ones. If you've never read her stories, this has everything you normally see in her books and would be a great first book by her. If you've liked her stuff in the past, then you'll love this one!

The couple here is not as fully developed as they could be, but you get little snippets. Mia is a strong woman, getting pregnant young and keeping the child while also still pursuing her dreams as a single parent baker. She has many conflicted feelings regarding her ex Jake, and you'll see that. She's understandably hurt by him, and she has enough respect for herself not to fall for him right away, even though her body wants to. Jake was in the military, and now that he's back, his only seeming thought is Mia. The story is titled appropriately because of it, since Mia is all he thinks about. If you like your guys utterly devoted and willing to admit to being owned by a woman, then you've found yourself a new book boyfriend. The chemistry between them is hot and off the charts, and you can tell they missed one another a lot.

Overall, the story is short. Longer than her last couple stories, but still short. This story is very much about how they get their second chance at love, with not a lot of background leading up to it, or stuff after. The love/lust they have for one another is intense and is always present, but it has fierce competition with Mia's initial fear of being broken again, and that takes up a lot of pages. Jake to his credit owns being a father well and tries to fix his mistakes, which goes a long way. The plot, however thin, is there, and the two fight for their HEA, which I loved seeing. The story moved very fast, as is typical of a JL Beck book, and there were definitely a bunch of grammar errors as well as a few details that were off that annoyed me. If you're looking for a hot, short, sweet story, this is a great one, unless you like perfect grammar. Then I suggest passing on much of JL Beck's books.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
