Jess in on the hunt for Lane Jefferson, which takes him to the town of Calico, Texas, where things don’t seem right. The temporary governor of Texas has seen fit to appoint three hired guns as his county sheriff and deputies. Jess knows the three men and knows they shouldn’t be wearing badges.
He hangs around Calico long enough to sort things out, but then he gets an urgent message from United States Marshal Frank Reedy. It seems his good friend, the female bounty hunter only known as Wildcat, has murdered a man in New Mexico Territory and now has a price on her head.
Jess, knowing that she would never kill without good reason, enlists the help of both Reedy and Bodine to safely escort her to Stratton, but a lot of angry and hungry bounty hunters have other plans to kill Wildcat for the bounty, and put her out of the business; but the only way that will happen, is over Jess’s dead body. Lead flies and men die. Who will be left standing in the end?
Librarian's note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
Characters from previous Williams novels get together to clear Wildcat of murder. Decent body count along the way. Shadow, the wonder wolf, plays a prominent role.
Once again Mr. Thomas's abilities have given us a fantastic novel. Its good to see Jess and his friends working together. Wildcat is always a plus to the stories, maybe she will end up as Jess' wife one day. I really enjoy having Shadow show up out of nowhere also. Keep up the great work Mr. Thomas, you have a lot of loyal followers out here.
Jess Williams with his friends, John Bodine, Frank Reedy, Wildcat and we can't forget Shadow, the smart protective wolf, who always appears when Jess needs help in his pursuit of these murdering misfits. Wildcat's appearance after she was set up by an unknown person accusing her of murder and a bounty is put on her life for one thousand dollars. Lots of action and Jess caught between two women who have deep feelings for him. He also shows his HIDDEN compassion for those who've had a rough life. The town he gives the mayor money to help them more or less get back on their feet after a gang took over and stole, robbed and bullied the town's people for whatever goods they wanted. Another great Jess Williams adventure. I can say from reading all his adventures, they are all different and I look forward to the next book. A man who accepts death; he isn't afraid, knows his limitations and keeps on the trail. The spiritual part of his life, he always seems to have that help which he accepts...
As alway,s a really awesome book. Jess is one tough man with a very strict set of rules he lives by. He never brings his man in alive and you do not mess with his friends and family. I have really enjoyed reading this book ,as with all the books on Jess Williams they will grab your attention and won't let you go. Thank you Mr. Thomas for a awesome read.
Exciting adventure of Wildcat who was wanted for murder she didn't commit. After dodging several bounty hunters, Jess and Bodine escorted her back to Stratton. After investigating the murder, Jess, Bodine, Wildcat, and Shadow go after the real killer in Kirkwood, Tx.
I gave it 5 stars because it had a c!ever story and was a quick read. There was p!entry of action. I like the subtle humor as well. I have read about half of his books and this is one of his better ones.
Enjoyed Wildcat. Read about her when Jess first met her. Would not have wanted to be in his shoes. Jess can sure get into some messes. But to have to stay in the same hotel? JD
Now this is an excellent read. Fine job Mr. W.L. Cox a definite page turner. Great addition to this series. As usual waiting patiently for the next book.
Thomas just keeps getting better. I have read all of the series. All 62, and Thomas just keeps getting better. Seems like he's cranking out one every month. Keep it up!
I am running out of words praising Thomas for his Jess Williams stories. This novel covers the unusual reunion of Jess and Wildcat. I highly recommend this author.
I would love to see Jess and Wildcat get together for good. They are a great compliment to each. They could hunt bad people together. Shadow could be removed man.
Jess is headed to a town with a dead body. He receives a telegram that Wildcat is in trouble. Jess, Bodine, Reedy, and Shadow execute a plan to save her.
