Who is Constantine, King of Dragon Kings? It’s a question asked by many. Here is your chance to learn some of this enigmatic leader’s history – and get a unique look inside the Dragon Kings.
This is a short story involving Constantine from the New York Times bestselling Dark Kings series from Donna Grant.
Donna is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over a hundred novels. Her most popular series is the breathtaking Dark King (aka Dragon King) series featuring dragons, immortal Highlanders, and the Fae.
In addition to her novels, Donna has written short stories, novellas, and novelettes for digital-first and print release. She has been dubbed as giving the “paranormal genre a burst of fresh air” by the San Francisco Book Review. Her work has been hailed as having “deft plotting and expert characterization” by Publisher’s Weekly and “sizzling” by RT Book Reviews.
She has been recognized with awards from both bookseller and reader contests including the National Reader’s Choice Award, Booksellers Best Award, as well as the coveted K.I.S.S. Award from RT Book Reviews.
Donna travels often for various speaking engagements, conferences, and book signings. She is also a frequent workshop presenter at national conferences such as RT Book Lovers Convention and Thrillerfest, as well as local chapters.
Born and raised in Texas, she also has ties across the border in Louisiana. Growing up with two such vibrant cultures, her Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding. She is never far from her faithful 80 pound dog, Sisko, or her three cats. She can often be found at the movies or bookstore with her children. Or buying makeup. And shoes.
No matter how long or short the stories are of the Dragon Kings I always wish they were longer. This short story was no exception.
I love Con and this showed just how lonely he’s been during the eons he’s been alive.
This was about 1601 when Con went to the village to see Laith at his bar and when he was returning to Dreagon he met a stranger on the road and offered to help Heather re-shoe her horse. It was an interesting afternoon and I was totally surprised at just who Heather was when she returned to her own realm.
I’m always looking forward to another book by Donna Grant. I don’t care if it’s 65 pages or 300 I’m going to read it.

REVIEW: CONSTANTINE by Donna Grant is a short story that focuses on some of the history of Constantine, King of the Dragons, and how he met the woman we have come to know as Death. Although limited in any real background information the author may be leading the reader to believe that Con may have met his future in the guise of a wanderer who may not have been completely human.
The story line stops at 75% , and the remaining 25 % cover the first chapter of Dark Alpha’s Claim (Reaper Book 1) and some promotional information about the author’s series. The premise is interesting but leaves too many questions unanswered. CONSTANTINE is a tease; a quick look back at the King of Kings who struggles in a world that, is once again, threatening the dragons’ existence.
Just read the history of Constantine (King of Dragon Kings). It have given me some in site into a small part of his life. With each and every book that Donna writes it is gives us new players. We have met the Dragon Kings, The Warriors, The Druids, The Light Fae, the Dark Fae, Reaper, Death, and others. Constantine has been dealing with a lot on his plate. Having no one he can share his burdens with. Then he met Heather. On the road, seeking to have her house shod. Speaking with her, sharing a meal with her. He knows that she is neither moral nor Fae. Only that she is different. He does know that is something about Heather, that as a Dragon King, he is attracted to her. WHY? Constantine can't place his finger on what makes her different. She sees things in him and let him know that she knows that he is different, proud, Nobel , A King. A kindred soul that know toll of duty.
So far so good. Some new avenues have been opened in the bigger story of the series; as have little antidotes about the King of the Dragon King, Constantine. Still mysterious after this first history. What will the next installment of his past bring?
I was really excited to find out that there was going to be a book about Constantine's past as I devour anything and everything Donna Grant writes that is Dark King related!
The book is short and I was disappointed that it ended so early as it has a teaser from another book that I'd already read, but it does give you a lot of information about Con's back story and some information the origin of the Reapers. If you are in to the Dragon King series or like Dragons and Fantasy books this would be one to read along with the main series, I don't think it would make too much sense as a stand alone.
Looking forward to reading the next full book in the series!!
OMG another interesting, intriguing and captivating book by Donna Grant. Throw out all your preconceived ideas about Con. I knew I loved him from the start and Ms Grant has made me fall even more in love with him. You absolutely must read Donna Grant' series, they all intertwine but are stand alone books that make you fall in love with each and every character. This is what reading a great book is all about. Donna Grant is truly a readers author.
Constantine is the King of the Dragon Kings and one of my favorites and I'm very intrigued that Con meet death and didn't know who she was. I'm also intrigued on what death set in motion. Hmm, interesting.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a bit shorter than I expected because it included an excerpt from one of her other books. I was actually going to give this three stars as well....but I then I found out the real identity of the women Con met. And oh my gawd, did I love that twist!
Granted this was only a glimpse into one day of Con's life over 400 years ago, but it was still a glimpse. I can't even say that I'm surprised over how Con even writes in his journal as stiffly as he speaks. It was so nice to get a peak at Con from the past though. We find out where he got those special gold cuff links from and why they are so important to him. It was rather sweet (in a non romantic sort of way). When we find out who this woman is that Con can't seem to deny anything to it makes me extremely excited for the future.
This is the book 11.6 in the Dark Kings series, a short story that provides some insight into the most intriguing and isolated Dragon King, the loneliest one with the heaviest of burdens.
Many centuries ago Constantine, King of the Dragon Kings, had an interesting encounter with a woman of unsurpassed beauty and though she exuded no magic he was not sure she was a mortal. Her attitude and intelligence were refreshing and she strangely saw and understood the tumultuous state of his soul, her words implied a deep wisdom born of experience. In the scheme of things their meeting was just a brief moment in time but the repercussions of that convergence will carry far forward into the future. Though Constantine does not know who he met, the identity of the woman is shared with the reader and for those who follow the Dark Kings series that knowledge opens up a myriad of possibilities.
The story ends at 70% on a kindle followed by an excerpt of Dark Alpha’s Claim.
Constantine: A History is a must read for all Dark Kings fans! This is a short novella that gives us some insight on the mysterious King of Kings. Reading in his POV fans see a softer side of Constantine. It is clear the decision he made against Ulrik has always weighed on his shoulders but he does have a responsibility for the dragon kings and the mortals they swore to protect. This is a quick read and I wish it was a little longer. Author Donna Grant says in the introduction Constantine’s full story would be the final book of the series, and I’m just not yet ready for this series to end. I haven’t read the Reapers series (yet) so reading this novella does spoil the series. But it is ok and now I need to start the Reapers series.
"Constantine: A History" by Donna Grant. Book 11.6 in the Dark Kings series.
This is a short story within the Dark Kings series showing us a snippet, a short scene if you will, of Constantine's past. It's not really meant to be read as a stand alone because the story (in and of itself) deals with the history of the Dragon Kings and if you haven't read the series, you don't really understand the significance of the scene.
That being said, fans will love it! It shows a glimpse of how different characters may be connected to Constantine and the Dark Kings from the spin-off series, The Reapers. I can't really say more because it's a short story and I'd be telling you everything if I did.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed it and look forward to more of Constantine's History.
A lot of people have reviewed about the book so I am just going to do a review on how I feel about Donna Grant's books. Donna Grant has been one of my favorite authors since the first book I read Dangerous Highlander in April 2011. Her books are out of my normal style of books that I read but I took a chance and I have never been disappointed. Donna's books are amazing and you cannot put them down. What is not to love about medieval warriors and dragon kings. Every series she has written is unique and amazing in their own way. All the main male characters are unique and they find a strong women to match them from past to modern times. I highly recommend you try Donna Grants books.
This novella (short story) is #11.6 in the series, "Dark Kings" by author; Donna Grant. It's actually in 3 small novellas (short stories) so this review is solely on part 1 which is set in the 1600s (human years). This super short novella gives the reader just a little taste on what Constantine (King of the Dragon Kings) is all about and what his thoughts are during that time and the past. I LOVED reading a glimpse of his past and the OMG character surprise (sooooo did not see it coming =) )!!!! Definitely, a must read for all you Dragon King fans but you seriously have to read all the novels and novellas before to actually know what's going on. You won't be disappointed at all!
This is a short story of Constantine, set in 1601. Constantine meets a mysterious woman, Heather, who turns out to be .
I don't actually find the writing very interesting and what happens in this story so far doesn't really mean much to the entire series. There are some Dragon Kings featured briefly: Nikolai, Laith, Roman, Banan, and Asher.
Have been looking forward to this story for awhile and wasn't disappointed. I won't give any spoilers, but will say I was pretty sure who Con's visitor truly was, and that he would somehow receive a gift from this visitor. So glad I was right. So looking forward to see what happens next. Donna Grant is an awesome writer.
Constantine: A History was a little too short but it provided an important link between two of Donna Grant’s series. I found the title a bit misleading since I expected the novella to go into more detail on Constantine’s background. Instead, what we see is a different side of Constantine. . . . as an individual and not in his role as the King of Dragon Kings. The ending was quite intriguing, leaving me curious as to what to expect from the final novel in the Dragon Kings series. (2020 can’t come soon enough to find out how things work out in the end!)
"Constatine: A History" had the natural ebb and flow of Donna Grant's writing style, which draws a reader into the story and captivates them. Leaving a reader eager to discover and read more!
It provided a historical perspective on the Dragon King and Reaper series which raises more questions while it answers other questions.
This is s short story to give you some insite into just how Constantine thinks and feels. He is very complex and a bit lonely. Bring a leader is no easy task. Death and the Reapers are good allies even if the Dragon Kings are not aware of their existence. I hope when they meet again they can be more than friends. Great novella!!!!
If you have not read this series, do not read this yet. Donna Grant cannot be beat on this series its so far out there. One of the very best I've read. This novella of Con was so good and it stoked the "fire" in me with this series.
Way to go Donna Grant!!!!!!!! Thank you for such wonderful entertainment.
Just as Doona Grant said at the very end of this book, another short story. She gave us a little bit of history on Constantine The King of Kings. Not alot, at least you will finally find out who the Reapers are and how they came to be,it doesn't say how many there are,of course. And who is behind the making of the Reapers.
I love getting a look into Con that doesn’t have anything to do with the current stories. It was a look into the past including entries from his own journal. In this one we get the history of the cuff links he always wears, and the first meet between him and a friend that we all get to know in the Dark World.
This was a great addition to the Dragon world. It was a small glimpse into Con's past. It was great to see Death and I have a wonder and hope for future books. Also great to get an answer about Con's cuff links.
Well now I have more questions than ever, but it was nice seeing Con almost vulnerable to the female flesh. I hope this works out the way I'm reading into it. This could be a phenomenal event.
I love Con! I have always loved Con! It's a pleasure to read all Donna's books but the Kings are my favourites. This was a joy and also very intriguing......... now the waiting begins for the next book...
Donna has hit it out of the park again. Grand Slam!!!!!!!! While I had Constantine all figured out and knew the secrets, Donna had to go and change it all. She literally has made me go in a different direction with almost all I know about Con. I still love him, maybe more so now.
