ACE #2

Burnt Sugar

Rate this book
He left me crumpled in a ball on the worn hardwoods where my living room furniture used to be. He fed me to the paparazzi. He teased me with his new album—full of songs written about me. Then, I never heard from him again.

Did I let Aaron Emerson break me? Of course not. I’m MK Landry. I turned my mess into my message. I poured my heart out to my fans on NoPinkCaddy.com. Then, I picked up the phone and made the scariest call of my life. The rest, as they say, is history.

She dropped the worst line in the history of breakup lines: be the man I deserve. What does that even mean? I ran. I had no idea how to handle her injury, anger, and disappointment. She gave up on me when I needed her the most.

My life has marched forward. I’m in the middle of my comeback, sold-out tour. I have a model girlfriend. On the outside, my world looks rock star perfect. But Mary Kay Landry left a void in my soul that no amount of fame or time spent with others can fill. I’m stuck in MK purgatory where she haunts my nights and fills my days.

Burnt Sugar is the second book in the ACE series.

Layne Harper is a mom, wife, book junkie, and sports fanatic. However, when the kids and husband are safely ensconced at school and work, she slips into her office with her three rescue dogs and writes until it’s time to drive carpool. Her children have no idea about her secret life (and they hopefully never will), and the dogs won’t tell. She’s always writing in her mind though and making notes on whatever is close by; envelopes, napkins, a kid’s homework…

*NOT a standalone. You must read No Pink Caddy first.*

"...I'm yours. You couldn't get rid of me if you tried. You kick me out. I move to the couch. You change the locks. I sleep on the porch. All I want in the world is to be yours like you're already mine."

Burnt Sugar isn't just a book, it's an experience. When Harper released No Pink Caddy, I read it voraciously, having no idea it was a cliffhanger. I am not the girl who reads an incomplete series, but this series is so good, I would happily read it a chapter at a time. When Burnt Sugar hit my kindle, I wanted to wait until the weekend, when I knew I would have more time to devote to it, but my was willpower just not strong enough to outlast the need I had to get into this book immediately. I started reading a chapter during my lunch period, then read another while waiting for my kids, and then another while cooking dinner. I spent the entire day sneaking in chapters, until I could tuck my kids into bed and just lose myself in MK and Aarons story. That's exactly what happened. I was lost to Harper's words and her outstanding ability to tell a story. From the beautiful imagery, to the dialogue, to the characters you love, and the ones you love to hate, to our two main characters, MK and Aaron who, as Aaron has said, have an "eighteen-wheeler full of baggage," there is an over abundance of reasons to love this story. I had hope at the end of NPC, that Aaron and MK would handle their issues, and come back together, stronger and more confident in their relationship. Harper decided we needed to suffer a bit more before our favorite blogger and rock star could even begin to reclaim what was lost. It's a longer road for these two, and at times, there are moments that you think the road is going to end in a twelve car pileup. It might not be an easy road, but what it is, is a gorgeous, breathtaking, at times frustrating, but thoroughly rewarding ride.

Hey there!! Let's chat about Layne ... Be sure to read "No Pink Caddy" the 1st book from the ACE Series. This is not a standalone, this book continue on with the love story between MK and Aaron. I love her book covers, so cool. I love antique cars, did I mention I know a 2003 Thunderbird? Such well developed characters, steamy scenes, smart & witty chit-chat throughout. I did have moments of laughing, giggling but then sad & down moments too ...such a great read. I love Layne's writing style. Such a great read. I must say ... I love (enjoyed) the 1st book better (more) (just sayin') that is my reasoning for the lower star rating. but I'm so glad the story continues in this one, so that is so super awesome positive, if you enjoy a read that is very emotional kind of ride, you will love this read ... if you have a thought after book 1 about where the story will lead or go, think again???!!! The ending ins't like book 1 ... so I see this going to a 3rd book ...but in a different way ... does that give anything away? hope not ... gosh reviews are tough ... nothing revealed I hope??! ( ;

Harper left us curled up on the floor in the corner at the end of book one, No Pink Caddy and picked up right there in Burnt Sugar. We saw MK put her foot down and stand up for what she deserves and I love her ability to mourn her loss and be crush but then pick herself up and try to make the most of her situation. It takes a strong woman to not become lost in heartbreak and Harper kept MK the same fierce self-reliant woman we loved from before. Aaron is on a journey to hit bottom. He knows he lost the love of his life and he is doing everything he can to be the man she deserves. Harper has tapped our emotions raw and readers will fall for the struggling bad boy with a heart of gold. This story is not just a romance but a story about life and the sometimes ugly and difficult courses it takes us on. I really enjoyed this continuation of MK and Aarons story and I can't wait to see what happens next!

OMG !! This book takes up where the first book, NO PINK CADDY left us, and i would highly recommend reading it first.

Aaron ( johnny) has left Mary K Landry (MK) devastated, but with usual MK style she allows herself to fall apart then even though she is still in pieces on the inside, she outwardly pulls herself together and gets on with making things in her life right and takes on new challenges to further her career within her No Pink Caddy persona.

Aaron can’t believe that MK let him down, and gets back to restoring his musical career, gets back on tour, even gets a new girlfriend, but he can’t find it in himself to be able to move on. He knows he has a truck load of issues, he knows he has to deal with things, which he does when he finally reaches his “rock bottom”.

Well blow me down, this author totally captivated me with the first book, and this second book took that to a whole new level!! My heart was shattered into pieces right alone with MK, and at the same time i wanted to hug Aaron. This writer brings us on this journey with writing that makes it all so relevant and real and you can’t help but to get fully invested in this relationship. I ABSOLUTELY adore Mk and her spirit, when the going gets tough the tough get going, isn’t that what they say??? This couple live it !!! Aaron realises that his life is empty without Mk and becomes resolute on making things right. OMG you really have to read this, the way Aaron works to win back the love of his life just totally floored me. I love so much that MK stuck to her guns and never made things easy, yet emotionally she struggled so hard with so many issues to not only contend with, but to resolve and knowing her life will be thrown yet again into the public circus. I had so many tears, but Aaron just wowed me! and just when things seem to be on the right track, the proverbial hits the fan for them yet again!! If you love a rock star story, you won’t find any more perfect than this, A Rock Star so perfectly flawed yet so human, caring and devoted!! My one complaint?? I CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THESE BOOKS and nor will you when you read them !! Bring it on Layne, we need the next book…. NOW !!

Layne Harper brought us Colin & Caroline “Charlie” in the Infinity Series. One of my top favorite series! I was excited when she announced her new series, ACE, starting with No Pink Caddy.
Burnt Sugar is a continuation of MK & Aaron/Johnny’s story told in No Pink Caddy. It is not a stand-alone. NPC ended with an unexpected punch to the gut. MK is devastated and Aaron is just a jerk!
After three months without a word from Aaron, MK feels it’s time to move on and “turn your mess into a message”.

Why can’t I see my time with Aaron for what it was? He’s a musician who lives in a world nothing like mine. We were each other’s two-week distraction. The sex was epic, but that’s it. MOVE ON.

There is so much detail and love poured into this story. Both MK and Aaron are trying to move forward. Aaron is struggling to stay sober while MK’s words ring out loudly in his head….

“Give me the whole and complete man I deserve.”

As they take their journey we see resilience and triumph coupled with agony and despair. Layne Harper pours her heart and soul into these beautiful characters. Her ability to describe a scene in such great detail that it makes you feel like you are in the center of it all. Watching as all of the events unfold. The story builds with each chapter. There is also a unique twist.

MK has changed. She no longer feels as carefree as she used to. Life has presented opportunities for her blog site NoPinkCaddy.com and she decides that maybe she should hop on for the ride.

“You took your life, the sugar. It got burnt, the life you live now. Now it’s burnt sugar you use to make….”

…it was sort of a metaphor for my life. Like it was supposed to be sugary and very sweet, but it wound up like burnt sugar.

As I neared the end my fears came to light……or a cliff! Although it is not a true cliffhanger, more like a bump, where the story is somewhat stopped. I will now anxiously await book three!

5 Burnt Sugar Stars!

“Love is not for the faint of heart, but I’m brave enough to keep trying.”

“With my own wings, I no longer fly. But, I hope by making this post live, I’ll begin healing and discovering who the new Mary Kay Laundry is.”

“Sometimes you have to wade through the trenches to come out on the other side as the person you want to be.”

“You can’t kick me out of your life just because I disappoint you. You have to love the perfectly imperfect man that is me.”

When I first picked up No Pink Caddy last September, I was swept away and completely captivated by Aaron and MK’s story. It took me on an intense ride with so many feels and gave me an ending that just left me begging for more. So, it will be no secret that I have been counting down the days, minutes and seconds for Burnt Sugar. The pressure was on and the bar was set high. Would Burnt Sugar live up to my expectations??? Well, I am hear to tell you that Layne Harper has once again knocked it out of the park. Burnt Sugar does not disappoint and my poor emotions have once again been taken for one hell of a ride…

Burnt Sugar picks up right where we last saw MK and Aaron. And I have to tell you, it was as if no time had passed at all. I was immediately pulled into their story with memories of their romance hitting me left and right. My heart ached for MK and everything that she was going through. She loved Aaron and didn’t want to be separated from him. But, he left her broken, having to deal with a life she never intended and was left alone to pick up the pieces. MK had to grow a lot in Burnt Sugar. She had rediscover herself and figure out just what she wanted in her life….Aaron has been trying desperately to move on from MK. He’s on top of the world with a new album and comeback tour. His life is everything he has ever wanted…..Only it’s missing one important thing: MK. Aaron still has a lot of anger and doesn’t fully understand why things ended the way that they did. He’s still fighting some serious demons and knows that he should stay away from MK, but that is easier said than done…..Try as they might neither Aaron or MK can fight the pull. Will these two lovers take a leap and risk a second chance or will their love crash and burn???

Burnt Sugar is the second book in the ACE Series and has once again left me utterly captivated. The story-line pulling me in and capturing my heart. My poor emotions were once again taken for a wild, yet incredible ride. I feel even harder for MK & Aaron this go round. The two of them so broken after the events of No Pink Caddy and both trying desperately to make some sense of their lives. I think they both grow a lot in this book and try hard to fight for their relationship. They still have so many obstacles to overcome and Burnt Sugar only highlights some of the hardships this young couple will have to face. I can only hope that they will continue to work hard on their relationship and will be able to overcome anything that life throws at them.

Burnt Sugar is a fantastic addition to this series. I definitely felt connected with the characters and their emotions. It had the perfect balance of angst, drama, romance, sexy good times and frustration. I loved every single second of this story, from beginning to end and can not wait for more MK and Aaron!

Layne Harper grabbed my attention with No Pink Caddy and with Burnt Sugar, she has grabbed my heart and squeezed. Falling in love with a rock star is a fantasy that all lovers of this genre have, but this story of Aaron/Johnny & MK hits a realism that is hard to find. MK was devastated at the end of NPC and this book picks up right where that one ended. I love MK's resilience after she allows her self to fall apart after Aaron leaves with promises that aren't kept, we are there when the grieving ends and she takes back control. Anyone with a failed relationship can totally relate to this and I did. Aaron for his part does come around and although I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop, it does in a very unexpected way. Aaron is flawed and he doesn't hide it, but again that is what makes this story so special. Two people trying to find their way back to each other in spite of the media, groupies and Aaron's inner circle, MK's career beginning and Aaron's issue that may spell the end of his. I love the other character in the story - New Orleans, I have been there many times and Ms Harper captures the sights and ambiance of this city perfectly. If you haven't read No Pink Caddy I urge you to get your hands on it and it must be read first, this story does not end here and I for one can't wait for the continuation of MK & Aaron's love story.

I had the distinct pleasure of being a part of the ARC review team for this second installment of the ACE Series by Layne Harper. Just Wow....seriously. I was so excited about this book, I could barely contain myself, and I was not disappointed! I love Layne Harper's writing style, and honestly I just don't think you can go wrong when you pick her books for your library. I've read a lot of books in the romance genre, and I have to say that this series is my favorite. I love MK and Aaron's story, and whenever I finish one of these books, I have a difficult time with my "re-entry" to reality. These characters are so real and their story is so compelling, I feel as though I know them personally. You will never be disappointed when you pick a Layne Harper book! Now, I'm back to playing the waiting game for the third installment. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long for more of MK and Aaron's story. Thanks again, Layne, for sharing your wonderful writing talent with us.

I have to say, I'm generally not a fan of cliffhangers. I want my HEA and I want to move on to the next book. I do however like series where you visit the characters again. I really enjoyed No Pink Caddy, the 1st book in this storyline. The author has a nice writing style and is easy to read and enjoy. MK is a great character, as is her friend Bella. I'm just having trouble falling in love with Aaron. I do believe he loves MK, but I feel like he needs a lot of professional help. In most rock band stories I've read, the band is like a family - very supportive. His band does not seem to act in Aaron's best interest and they don't seem to have a very good connection with each other. I am enjoying MK's journey to her dream. I do think I'll read the next book. But I do like when I start something like this to know how many books will there be. Anyone know? There's only so much angst with the same 2 characters I can take.

Omg

I'm in love with this series. Aaron and MK are one of my favorite book couples.

The story picks up where we left off in book one. Then it does jump ahead, but Layne Harper makes the change seamless.

It takes a strong woman to love Aaron and MK is that woman. This book is the journey to forgiveness and finding one another again. Layne had these characters growing and giving them more depth. I don't want to give to much of the book away. Be warned this book 2 in a series and there will be a book 3.

Thank you Layne for a awesome book and characters we fall in love with. Can't wait for book 3

Beautifully Burnt

Layne Harper I didn't think you could get any better than the Infinity Series but thank god I was wrong honey. I waited to read No Pink Caddy until Burnt Sugar came out and I'm kicking myself for waiting that long. For two days I have been immersed in MK & Aaron's story. Just wanted to be left alone to be with them. So much so when my elderly mother called and asked could I take her to lunch. I told her she didn't need to eat right now but if she really must I would order and have it delivered to her. Leaving my house was not an option. MK & Aaron stole my heart from Charlie & Colin(almost). You Rocked this story girlfriend. Pick this up ppl and fall in love with MK & Aaron. Please don't make us wait to long for the next book 😘

This novel was read and reviewed for My Timeout Book Blog by Melissa.

This is novel two in the ACE series. This is not a stand alone you must read the first novel in order to understand what is going on in this one. I have to say that you really need to read the first one. Believe me you should go back and read No Pink Caddy.

Burnt Sugar starts off a little while after No Pink Caddy ended. This time around we get to see the story from both MK and Aaron. I loved that it was written this way. This time around you get to not only see what is going on though MK's eyes and mind but you get to enter Aaron's thoughts and mindset.

This novel starts with two very heart broken and destroyed people. Both MK and Aaron are doing what they have to do in order to get though the heart break and move on. MK has thrown herself into No Pink Caddy. While Aaron and ACE released their ablum and is now on tour. He has started to date a model and is back drinking heavily. These two get brought back together and things get interesting. I will not go to much into detail because it would give too much away. But I will say that the chemistry between these two is still explosive.

Yet again I fell head long into the story of MK and Aaron. This couple along with the large group of important second characters bring you in and leave you with a ton of feelings. This time around there are some of the old challenges but new novel brings about a very big challenge for them to face. Just how will MK and Aaron fair amongst all this challenges.

I found myself cheering these two on. It played on my emotional more then once. I found my self also wanting to yell at their stubborn asses from time to time as well. I felt almost emotionally linked to them. Since this novel was told by both characters I found myself also connecting with Aaron's character not just MK. Which brings a whole different set of emotions into play. I have not found a lot of novels that has been able to draw me into the character as this one has.

Again like the last novel, this one is full of twist and unexpected turns. I have to admit that is the biggest this that surprised me with this series. It is not your typical girl falls for rockstar novel. It keeps you wondering and guessing right till the last page. This time around I was kinda expecting the cliff hanger ending but still it made me long for more. Hurry up and bring me back to New Orleans and to MK and Aaron so I can see how their lives are playing out!!

Layne Harper and Burnt Sugar are my new favorite author and book as of lately. I must say to know the past of our two main characters I would most definitely suggest picking up No Pink Caddy and reading that book first. You will know where their relationship left off and get a better feel for these two amazing characters. I was lucky enough to receive both ARC’s and I devoured them quickly.

In NPC, Mary Kay(MK) is a thirty something who has just quit her job and was to focus fully on her lifestyle vlog. That is until she meets Johnny real name Aaron who is a rock god to the masses. He manages to turn her world upside down and promises her the world. There is one slight drawback, since he is a famous rock star he also has some baggage to his name. A daughter, past drug addiction and millions of crazy fans. When Aaron promises her to be the best man he can be and does not follow through will she push him aside and move on or give him one last chance?

In Burnt Sugar we see MK manage to bounce back after a horrible break up with the only man she has ever really loved. Aaron is always in the back of her mind and when there is a chance encounter of Aaron seeing her once again all of the shared memories come flooding back to him. As we learn in the first book, Aaron usually gets what he wants, so he stops at nothing to win back MK’s broken heart. Of course this is not the best time for a relationship for MK, she has all of her ducks in a row with starring in her own television show and opening her own boutique. MK has some choices to make when it comes to Aaron. She can forgive him and give Aaron a second chance or tell him to hit the door and write an album full of heartbreak.

Reading this book was like watching a movie play out and I loved every bit of it. I really grew to love all of the characters in this series. Except a few, but you must read to find out who those crazies are. The character development was amazing and since this book was mostly based in New Orleans, I must book a vacation there soon! This is a series not to miss and I cannot wait to see what happens with MK and Aaron. Will these two finally find a forever happily ever after or will Aaron’s past destruction come back to haunt them?

I was fortunate enough to receive an early copy of Burnt Sugar and devoured it late in the night/early morning!! Generally, I am not a fan of cliffhanger style books, yet completely made an exception with this series from Layne Harper. I fell in love with the first book No Pink Caddy and have been on pins and needles waiting for this installment. (Let me also say that although I feel that this is a cliffhanger series, it's not a stop in the middle style - Each book for me has a "conclusion" yet, a perfect balance to the reader of "I know there's more to the story".)
Layne's writing style for this series feels like a complete "immersion" into the character's world. Just like the first book, I felt like MK was talking to me directly - like we were friends and I was totally following along with her blog/twitter feed! The two main characters are so real. MK was left wrecked emotionally in the first book, and Burnt Sugar picks right up with the aftermath. She is real, she is honest and she makes things happen. She is pulling herself back together - emerging on a new career - fulfilling her own dreams when Aaron slams back into her "space". This part of the story shows that love isn't perfect. It shows things that most people experience all the time and life isn't always a fairytale. There are real human emotions in this book - jealousy, rage, addiction, imperfect family, etc. It's just real, it's a little raw, and so worth the read. Life isn't easy, and MK and Aaron are easy - but I think we all can see that it's worth the risk. And yes, Layne Harper .... I'm already desperately waiting for MORE!

Burnt Sugar picks right up where No Pink Caddy left off, so it should come as no surprise as to what I'm about to say. Here goes...YOU MUST READ BOOK 1 FIRST! Mary K. Landry aka MK, has been left by Aaron, so although she's broken on the inside, she's outwardly getting it back together. MK has decided that she's going to move on with changes to get her life back on track. Aaron can't believe that MK let him down, so he has no other choice but to get his musical career back on track. He moves on by going on tour, and even meets a new woman. but still finds that he can't move on, and so he hits rock bottom. OMG this was an angst filled journey that wrecked me big time. I'm with MK, with my heart broken, which makes me want to junk punch Aaron, and yet, I still feel for him as well. Layne Harper with her talented writing style, has me all kinds of twisted up with conflicted emotions, as she transported me fully into her world. Which caused me such a frustrating, angst filled ride, that I found myself calling her colorful metaphors all over the place. But these dramatic feelings show just how talented she is, as I was fully invested in MK and Aaron's story, like I was in the middle of it in person. And while I devoured this story in one sitting because I couldn't put it down, now all I feel is physically exhausted, without the right words to describe the awesomeness that I just experienced. So instead of gushing on and on with confusing emotions, I'll just encourage everyone to read MK & Aaron's story for yourselves, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Oh my goodness!!! Is this really not the conclusion?! How much more could this couple possibly endure? And why do we have to wait for their happily ever after?

I loved their relationship this time around. If you read my review of book 1, No Pink Caddy, you'll remember that I wasn't a fan of Aaron. I thought he was way too volatile and off his rocker at the start. And I couldn't believe that MK put up with it, especially all within 2 weeks time. However, the author redeemed these characters in my eyes this time around. I enjoyed watching them break and then find their footing as individuals and a couple. I'm pleased with Aaron's moments of clarity in regard to MK's love for him as well as Grace's influence. I was glad to see that they were willing to fight for each other when things got tough and love each other through it all. I'm hoping that the next book will be as angst free as this one and that we can see Aaron and MK find some peace.

The secondary characters are great, but we don't see them as much in this book. As you can imagine, I'm still not a fan of Grace. Could she be any more snotty towards MK? And the way that she fed her brother's ego and ignored his addiction and obvious spiral made me so angry. Was she really that jealous and selfish? Also, I was a little confused by Sam's actions considering she seemed to like MK in book 1.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy of this book.

I was absolutely THRILLED to read Burnt Sugar. After No Pink Caddy, I couldn't wait to get more MK and Aaron. Reader note - if you have not read No Pink Caddy, please do. Burnt Sugar is book 2 and starts where NPC ends.
This review will be tough to write without spoilers. Please read the book - there are so many wonderful gems in the writing, you'll be happy you lived in MK's world for a bit.
MK - I loved her in NPC and loved her in Burnt Sugar. This is a big nod to the amazing writing of Layne Harper - MK is the same character that we (and Aaron) fell in love with in NPC. She's headstrong, loving, passionate, loyal. In NPC, we saw her pushing to be the person she wanted to be. In Burnt Sugar, we see her living her dream, while still being her.
Aaron - In NPC, he was flawed. He was a bit lost, still learning to be "an adult" and "in a relationship." We still see this, but we also see him pushing to grow to be a man worthy of himself and MK.
Together, MK & Aaron still have passion and sparks AND growth.
I mentioned before that Layne can write. She can, but it's more. Her descriptions of everything are so perfect that her words completely draw the picture in your mind. You can see everything that MK sees and experiences.
There are some super realistic (and funny) scenes that any girl can relate to.
Excellent read - perfect story - kudos to Layne Harper!

Can MK Landry be a real person? Please? This book picks up right where "No Pink Caddy" left off-which is this first book in this series. After the wreckage that is Aaron and MK settles, and the two find themselves living without each other-we learn just how in love they were, even if it was only after two weeks. MK and Aaron are both equally hurt, but are proving to be very successful in their business lives. Aaron's new album, whose muse was his ex-girlfriend, MK, has been number 1 for quite some time and the band is on tour promoting their new record. MK finally gets her shop on Magazine Street, and also lands a reality TV contract. Their lives are seemingly complete-minus the fact they're missing each other.
The majority of this book is MK and Aaron a part-and we're kept on our toes until the two finally have that combustible meeting. Plain and simple-I LOVE MK Landry and Aaron Emerson. I have to admit-these are the two most real characters I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's no secret Layne Harper is very talented-and there has been an amazing job of creating each and every character. The breathtaking accuracy to the NOLA culture was completely refreshing. I would totally reccomend this series to anyone-I need more of MK and Aaron's future as soon as possible! - By Victoria

This is book two of the ACE series and thankfully it was available through Kindle Unlimited. I would have not been happy to pay money for this book. Unlike book one we get Aarons pov along with MK's in this one. The writing was good but it was very disappointing to say the least. I really dislike books where one of the mc's makes a conscious choice to be apart from someone they love because they can't be an adult. These two characters do not come face to face in the book until the 50% mark! This review contains spoilers.

This book picks up where book one leaves off. MK is alone because she wants Aaron to stop using drugs and Aaron leaves town because he thinks she abandoned him. He never answers her texts or calls. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

When you read a great book, it always feels like the wait for the next instalment takes forever, I fell in love with MK and Aarons story when reading no pink caddy and couldn't wait to find out where they ended up, I can honestly say this was worth the wait!
I thought after the end of no pink caddy I would have a fair idea about the events taking place in burnt sugar, boy was I wrong. From start to finish I was gripped, I wanted to slap some serious sense into Aaron and I felt like my heart literally broke for MK at times. Then at other times I wanted to cry for Aaron and shake Mk, I think its fair to say, my emotions were shot to pieces while reading this.
This was beautifully written. I love when I read a book and I can really feel the emotions in the characters, I love that it was turbulent and kept me in suspense. The title and the metaphor behind it is beautiful, I don't think anything would have been more fitting.
I was sad when the book ended, however, I look forward to seeing where their story progresses to ....I will be anxiously awaiting!!

CLIFFHANGER.

Oy. Part 1 ended with me thinking that he'd end up in rehab again. Instead he leaves her, goes back to Austin and his band of enablers. Doesn't matter about the coke or the alcohol as long as he's making everyone happy. She's depressed and miserable and doesn't understand why he refuses to communicate with her.

For the life of me I cannot understand his POV. "She left me" is inaccurate. He was using cocaine; proposed to her in the crappiest of ways in the back of an SUV, tell him she needs him to be what she deserves (don't we all) and he's offended? He's a d-bag.

We then spend the rest of this book watching him spiral downward and MK getting her NPC life back. And then they reconnect in the crappiest of reconnections and I realize that I really really HATE him. And I can't understand how MK can deal with this... until the author explains it away with the soulmate fortune telling.

I kind of don't care about book 3.

I love Layne Harper books! I fell in love with MK and Aaron in No Pink Caddy! I have been dying for months to see what would happen next in their story. Burnt Sugar was an excellent second book in the ACE series. Burnt Sugar picks right up where No Pink Caddy ended. MK and Aaron are separated and trying to go on with their lives without each other. MK is devastated that Aaron has left her and won't respond to any type of contact from her. I love how strong MK is throughout this book. She continues to follow her dreams and has some great things happen to her! Aaron is trying to go on with his rock star life. He is touring with his band and even dates a model. He can't get MK out of his head! Will MK and Aaron find a way back to each other? I couldn't put this book down! You will fall in love with these characters. I can't wait for the next book!

I was lucky to read this in advance as part of the ARC group. What can I say? Now I am dying for the next book here Layne Harper! In NPC we met MK and Aaron, followed them from attraction, lust, love and loss.
In Burnt Sugar we get to follow them on the next phase and finding what they really want from each other and themselves. I read this all in one sitting because I have been dying to know the rest of their story.
What I love the most in both of these stories is that it isn't just about lust and sex. This builds with them meeting and instant attraction. Then is isn't a perfect romance. There is jealousy and real life human behaviour. Well as real as it can be when you fall in love with a rich, successful rock star. A must read!

I enjoyed this book so much more than I did the first. I honestly felt the love MK had for Aaron in this book and I also felt her pain. Grace came off as very selfish and I really disliked her hateful attitude towards MK. I have to say that I liked Aaron more in this book than I did the last, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I'm glad he stepped up to be the man MK knows him to be and that he is trying to do and get better. There was something going on with MK in this book and I believe it will be revealed in the next book but I don't want to give it away. I'm actually excited to see what happens next.

This was so good that I read it all in less than one day. I can't wait to have more. I'm addicted to MK and Aaron/Johnny and all things New Orleans. Having lived and attended school in New Orleans, Ms. Harper does an excellent job of capturing the New Orleans spirit and that wit that lives in her people.

I love love love the passion and love that MK and Aaron share and i can't wait to find out how they overcome this challenge in their careers, life and relationship.

Ms. Harper, when will i have another installment from the ACE series?

What an emotional pact book! I was all over the place while reading this book! I was ecstatic to finally get this book and I wasn't disappointed! Aaron and MK blew my mind. They are just both strong willed characters. I had a love hate feeling for Aaron this this book. I didn't want to put the book down to work. I hope we get maybe a little more of Aaron and MK!! I don't want these two to ever go away!!

After reading the first book in this series and saying MK should have run away from Jonny like her ass was on fire, I still believe that afte this one. It is an interesting story but I keep thinking between the addiction and some possible mental health issue, this relationship seems more like mother/child then BF/GF. I will definitely read that next book but unless something is really different, I don't see ever liking these two as a couple.

So....

So, Aaron and MLK are back together. I have no idea what the role of the model girlfriend is, but it is just annoying and tacky. Apparently it should have been left off. So, MLK is now a reality TV star, but Aaron has big problems to contend with. Career ending problem. We shall see. I just love the story of this fallen angel rock star and the love of his life. Very gripping for me. Just like the 'Infinity' series.

Layne is one of my go to authors. Ever since the first Infinity book, she has pulled me in, tossed me around and spit me out.

This book just gets it. Layne gets it.
I am excited to see where she goes in the next installment. Mk is a complex character, whose internal strife cause me sleepless nights.

In a world where books, are read and quickly forgotten, this series isn't one of them.
