Abducted

Rate this book
I had begun to forget what a normal life was. It had been so long since my life was anywhere near normal. I once had a home, parents, a brother and sister but did they even remember me now after all this time? Each day I was here it became harder to recall their precious faces. It seemed a whole other lifetime ago and I missed it so much. So many years had gone past and I supposed my family had done their grieving and were getting on with their lives without me. I wish things had been different. I wish I had been anywhere other than in that room the night I was taken, then maybe I’d still be with them but instead I was in a cold dark basement. I didn’t even know where. At the mercy of a man who had none

Pleasantly surprised!

At first glance, there were no reviews and the author was unknown to me.I usually don't prefer to go in totally blind like this, but as dark abduction tales are my jam,I took a chance. It was not the usual formula ...the victim much younger than I'm comfortable with and the Romance dynamic is transposed making it unique and suspenseful. The details of captivity were not overly explicit, yet may be jarring for a novice or someone with triggers and are generally especially distasteful to all due to the victim's age. However, although it's origins are rough and there is a lull where it drags causing the reader to perhaps briefly question it's merits ...please push on! Soon after, it not only becomes more engaging with several twists and turns...but it advertises that it has endearing magic and beauty within that is revelatory of the strength and selflessness of the human spirit, of how fate can intervene in the best and worst of ways and the capability of humans to be solicitous and overcome and prevail. And most importantly, this story is indicative of the healing property of love....in this case....Romantic love.I
I will definitely consider more titles from this untested author.

Needs a lot of editing

Matilda was kidnapped from her bed at the age of 12 and has been locked in her captor’s basement for six years. She is chained to her bed and endures terrible abuse. Seth is the man who rescues her and while Matilda reacquaints herself with the world, she begins to have feelings for Seth. As they form a friendship, and possibly eventual romantic relationship, Seth begins looking into Matilda’s abduction case. He begins to wonder if her captor had help.

The story overall was engaging and entertaining. Most of it was pretty easy to believe. The problem is the lack of editing. I don’t know if this author didn’t have someone to look over her manuscript or the editor was just that bad, but the mistakes in this book are many and show up in several genres. Words are used in the wrong tense, the story is all squished together, there is a lack of proper paragraphs, and there are a lot of grammatical and punctuation problems. I was so tired of reading a question but having it end in a period! It seems this writer feared using question marks and commas. I admit I am somewhat of a grammar snob however, this would bother even an average reader.

I could only give this book 2 stars because of the lack of editing however, I think if the author took the time to revise her work, improve the grammar, and flush out the storyline, this could easily be a four-star book. As it stands now, it feels like a rough draft.
