Abbey’s recent experiences have changed her, but is it for the better? She’s learned the truth about the Seraphim, and General Kett’s betrayal has left her to wonder if there’s anyone outside of the Rejects she can trust.
When the Nephilim begin their assault on the Republic, and her daughter is caught in the cross-fire, she’ll have no choice but to depend on Captain Mann to do what he can to help. As much as Abbey wants to go home, she has an entire galaxy to protect and a mission whose outcome could determine the fate of trillions:
Find the Keeper. Restore the Covenant. Save the Universe.

Another great read in this series. This book was a good action filled read that I could not put down . It has a storyline that stays true to the other books in this series. It was just a pleasure to read.
The series isn't a set of 7 books. It's one long book with 7 chapters presented as "books" for easier reading. They are arbitrarily split based on the number of pages. That's why each "book" has a cliff hanger—there is no separate story arch with resolution in each chapter. The whole thing is one endless pulp.
That's why the review is applicable to the whole series and every chapter individually. They are virtually the same plot with too many endless details of action/fighting scenes that just annoy after a couple of times and not enough story, world building, or character development to make it more than a junk space fantasy that feels like a "fast food" type of reading.
Looks like the author was training his writing muscles and repurposed—for the lack of the better word—many ideas and concepts from popular sci-fi books and movies. Think of the Chaos of the Covenant as the Star Wars with less story and more fights where the "force" is replaced with a space vampire blood's similar to the "force" abilities called "gift" and a mix of Suicide Squad and Guardian of the Galaxy movies' characters as "rebels". The whole thing with the blood is taken directly from a vampire stories cookbook. Though in the book the bad characters are never called "space vampires".
So, the book (with its 7 chapters) is space vampire fantasy based on Star Wars ideas and characters borrowed from Suicide Squad and Guardian of the Galaxy, and that is spiced up with stories from different cultures and religions to explain the said space vampires.
Queenie, Imp, Joker, Okay, Nerd, Pudding, Cherub, Void, Uriel and Gant. What a team, what a roster of characters and I am amazed at the end of each book that their numbers get bigger and not smaller. It would've been so easy for M.R. Forbes to kill characters off for shock value, but he just keeps building them up instead. Brilliant!
Most of Book Five is around the hunt for The Covenant and it takes a very 'alienesque' turn as they search through the empty corridors of a giant vessel.
Killshot is still trying to get of Earth and he and Hayley receive some unexpected help, which can only lead to meeting a great character(I’m talking about you Quark!) again in the 6th instalment and one I can't wait for Imp and Okay to try and put a nickname to. But we do say goodbye to one character in this part of the universe and it is really quite an unceremonious ending. Shame really!
We end the book on a quest, and I began Book Six within minutes of ending this one.
Queenie discovers that the Rejects are right about General Kett being an ass. He just isn't as big an ass as he might be. Queenie establishes authority over Kett, gives orders, and leaves to find the focus. She realizes that she is not yet powerful enough to defeat Thraven. The cleansed gift within her is not violent enough. The Queen is attracting former enemies as allies. She takes back the Shard Ship and the focus in a dangerous fight and meets the Keeper who submits to her authority. This mission accomplished. Will she go beyond the veil into other dimensions to raise an army? Will she gain enough power to better Thraven or will the help of the Rejects be enough? What about Gant? Will he be able to stop the decline of his intellect? I am now downloading the next book "Good Intentions".
I would have left previous excellent rating for the first 4 books, but I was too eager to read on!
M.R Forbes (or simply, Mr Forbes) is an exceptional word picture writer. This story comes to us in many layers and it is linked by the strong characterisation and wonderful descriptive writing. I was immediately enthralled with the interactions off all the characters, all tied in with the sometimes unwilling leadership of the not quite perfect Abbey.
With fun, wit and pathos, the writer meshes all these intrinsic instruments into a fantastic and moving epic.
Keep up the glorious writing Mr Forbes, got to go now, number 6 is awaiting...
This gets a strong 4 stars because of the audio presentation. The book itself is a good 4 stars.
I read books 1 - 4 and book 5 continues the consistent high quality style and plot. The audio enhances the strength of the books which is the dialog between characters. Voicing helps add depth and recognition allowing for faster progress through the plot.
I made time to listen, not just filled down time.
The book filled the need for summer movie blockbusters, in that, mach of the fun is traveling with the cast through their adventures. Maybe they win, maybe not, but that's okay because the journey is the kick. Think Guardians of the Galaxy.
Good fantasy scfi with a religious leaning explained as technology.
A nice mixture of scfi and fantasy where "The One" "GOD" Has planted many species throughout a multiverse with humans being made in his image fight fallen angels. Well written, good scfi. If you've never read on angels etc... you will think this is new fantasy, but it's not. The Nephlim have been reported as being the giants of old. The offspring of fallen angels and human parentage. The Seraphim are the "non" fallen angels that stayed true to God. Now I'm sure the liberals will hate these books but its all good reading!
The story continues, with better action, more intrigue, and more cliff hangers. There are indications that there will be significant changes that are going to happen to the ranks of the Rejects, which is enough to keep the reader interested. The character development is top notch in this story, even with the new characters that have been introduced. The author didn't need an extra ordinary amount of pages to blend them into his overall story. His writing is that good.
One of the most entertaining series I have had the pleasure of exploring. There are many elements of myth not to mention influences of modern fiction woven throughout the series. Normally when I encounter scenarios or familiar influences I tend to have a sense of disappointment but not here. There were s more of a homage as the event(s) and characters are unique in form. The author spins a well designed story making the suspension of reality easy and pleasurable.
It flows well from previous books, however it needs too come to a climax I am not a fan of a forever story. While well written I need to see a conclusion Robert Jordan died before his climax. And it became harder to read since the storyline blurred too much. Please finish it and go too a news adventure. I am 70 years old and want this to diminish before I go to the great beyond.
I have read a few thousand sci Fi and fantasy books but I couldn't write one this good if my life depended on it lol... Mr Forbes is a truly world class author and I have read some of his other works BUT imho This series is his masterpiece! Well I'm on to book six now to check on Queenie and her Rejects because I bet it's fraggin time! Super and fun if you miss this series it's your loss!! ;)
The Final Countdown🚀💫 Military🚀 and Mercenary Sci-fi 🐺💪🔫🗡💥 The Republic is in Big trouble from an almost supernatural enemy👹 force who seem to be able to blow up their ships at will. There are also traitors from within their own forces! Abbey💃💪🔫🗡 And her small crew of Rejects🐺💪🔫🗡💥 must save the Universe!💫🌏
This is book 5 in the series📚 and ends in a cliffhanger. The entire series is published and should be read in order.
I got this e-book from Amazon📚 with Kindle unlimited.
Another thrilling installment. This one more non-stop action than character development but then the characters have already evolved in the previous books and are pretty clearly established. Abbey/Queenie is such a great character but by now her crew of Rejects forms a solid ensemble, with room for new members even. I'm enjoying this series very much!!
I enjoy reading about Abbey and the "Rejects". Its one of the best space operas full of great heroes and villains. Always happy to start a new book and try to find the time to finish asap. Always looking for the next one and so far have not been disappointed. Highly recommend MR Forbes books. Job well done.
This apocalyptic series just gets better and better. The main character, Queenie, gets more complex and interesting. Rather than being one dimensional she evolves and gains new understanding about herself and the circumstances in which she finds herself. This is one series I will be sorry to see come to a conclusion.
I have read the previous 4 books, each one given a 4 star review, but this has outdone all others before it. It will be interesting to see how the next is going to stack up against this. Mr. Forbes, thank you for sharing this and given me relieve for a time. I am looking forward to the next. Rainer Kutschmarski, 06,08,2021
This is a pretty fun read, especially in the way the Rejects have become a fairly cohesive group and have even picked up a few more members along the way. I also really like the character of Olus Mann and how he felt obligated to take responsibility for Cage’s daughter. All the characters in this series have been well written.
The Rejects are great, their dynamic funny and intense. I was getting a bit tired of what seemed to be the same SciFi plot over and over. To me this was a bit of a new twist that I greatly enjoy and cannot wait to see what comes next!
I really enjoyed the series, excellent pacing good characters. I love Queenie and the rejects don't change them. Can't wait for the next book. I recommend this book to anyone who likes multiple storylines, action, and fast pacing read this book.
Well I found this one to be another wild ride, and can see that NO good deed goes unpunished. in all the books so far their hasn't been one single case of the rejects getting anything with being attacked. I have the next book already ready to play after this gets posted.
Another great installment to the series. I love the dialogue between the rejects, no matter the situation it always sounds like their in the pub. Ribbing each other over a few pints
Found myself glued got the first 4 books at first then got so hooked i got kindle unlimited so i could read the rest. Became loyal to the characters and wanted to know what happened next
The Rejects more and more resembles a D&D adventure party, complete with the occational level-ups, but not in a bad way. The series is going strong and I appreciated the extra room Captain Mann got in the book.
And the enjoyment continues. All the characters are very interesting and each play their own important role...who will be changed or offed next? Hard to read when passing out from holding your breath Mr.Forbes!
Queenie and the rejects have to keep fighting for the galaxy. Will Queenie get to reunite with her daughter and Captain Mann? Will they find the focus? Will they survive ?
