Brooks, Abby "The Moore Family - the Complete Series Books 1-5" 1) "Blown Away" (Ian & Juliet) Rated 5★ Very sweet with some heat. Juliet & Ian make a great couple. Such a testament to the fact that sometimes love blindsides you! 2) "Carried Away" (James & Ellie) Rated 4★. James & Ellie are a wonderful couple, and though each has their issues, they figure out before too late that they're stronger together than separate! 3) "Swept Away" (Harry & Willow) Rated 5★! Harry & Willow are amazing! A beautiful story of true love! 4) "Break Away" (Cole & Lilah) Rated 5★ I loved seeing Lilah grow and become a such better person. Cole was an awesome pair for her. Possibly my favorite out of this collection! 5) "Purely Wicked" (Jackson & Ashley) Rated 4★ I liked Ashley & Jackson and -loved- Georgia would have loved to read more about this family.. Overall Rated 5★.Will be looking at getting more of this author's work
So enjoyed the Moore family!! Blown Away-5 stars-Ian and Juliet's story is sweet and spicy, love Ian Carried Away-4 stars-James and Ellie, Ellie is one tough cookie and is the best thing for James who needed to grow up Swept Away-5 stars-Harry and Willow, their story is so tender and sweet Break Away-5 stars- This was my favorite read, absolutely loved Lilah and Cole Purely Wicked-4 stars-Jackson and Ashley, highschool lovers who rekindled as adults All the stories are sweet and special, you could actually read them separate or out of order, there is some cross over with the other characters from the other books but not much, these stories are more focused on the said couple and their future HEA.
This collection is a treasure trove of love stories. Each book tells a story of the Moore brothers, their sister and even a cousin finding their true love. Each story uses a trope perfect for the heroes of that book, be it escaping assault, second chances at love, love at first sight or fremenies to lovers or a mix of plots. Light B and D, not unexpected with dominant alpha males, but the women are on board with it. Well written, with just a few minor pronoun editing issues, this series is heartwarming, riveting and rewarding. Loved this family and their true loves.
Okay, so I should probably preface this review with a qualifier...had I not read this series back to back, I may have found it more enjoyable.
First, there are editing errors sprinkled throughout the stories.
Second, the storylines are like a broken record of repeating storylines.
First we have Juliet and Ian. Juliet is an intelligent, educated woman, talented and intelligent. She runs away from an abusive relationship in terror, with no concept of her own power or position (in direct conflict with her professional skills). Like knowing that her abusers violation of their conflict didn’t nullify the NDA she’d signed. Don’t worry...her white knight sweeps in and rescues her. Via a co-dependent relationship, where he is in control. Even in a later story, the cousin is renting a house from Ian, not Ian and Juliet. So she left an abusive relationship and fell immediately into a different kind of abusive relationship.
Moving along to James...James was a like-able, sweet guy in book one. But then his fiancé left him after he caught her cheating, and he became a drunk, dangerous, douche. Making fat jokes and being an anathema to himself and his upbringing. And Ellie fell for him. And fell into a co-dependent relationship, losing her independence and the strength that has gotten her far alone. She had already found the strength to leave an abusive relationship that fraudulently left her deeply in debt (but she was apparently too stupid to have reported as fraud the first, second, third,...crippling herself financially), and out of luck until James sweeps in and fixes all the things. And he heroically takes care of her with two broken arms and a pregnancy (that was magically her fault even though he didn’t use a condom...she lied after and said she was on birth control, but still, blame is 50/50).
We move along to Harry and Willow...the most likeable so far, but also entirely cringeworthy. Like how the lead ballerina who has worked her entire life for her position achieves her dream, finishes that run, them moves to a small town and give up all she’s worked for to be with him. Even though he could easily move to NYC and still do his job. It’s okay, because her best friend Juliet is back in Bliss married to his brother. Never mind the fact that she didn’t hate her life, job, or the sacrifices it entailed until she met Harry. This one left the abusive part of the storyline out, but kept with the co-dependent, unhealthy relationship theme.
Next we have Lilah. Self-absorbed, entitled, Blunt, and not very nice. Her brothers don’t like that she said their other halves hit the jackpot with them (though they were honestly very gold digger like relationships), so they send her out into the world to live a “real life” to fix her ways. She met Cole, who taught her to manage her finances, balance her budget, and survive. His mom was physically and mentally abused by his father his whole life, so he’s an asshole who uses women for sex, but it’s okay because he buys dinner first and is honest with them. Lilah magically stops being blunt and forthright...because living poor gave her a filter. She fixes his business with her connections. Again, a weird codependency that works for them.
The saving grace in this story is Ashley and Jackson. We are still stuck in an unhealthy codependency, but Ashley and Jackson at least try to fix themselves and build up the other before committing fully. And never fear, Both Ashley And Jackson come from abusive families, and abusive or cheating relationships that weren’t healthy. But he is sexually aggressive and demanding in the bedroom and that lets out the abusive/controlling parts of his personality. The concepts themselves aren’t bad - but the way it was written wasn’t sexy or a turn on.
The relationships overall were just unhealthy. The characters jumped from unhealthy awful relationships to unhealthy good relationships. I think the loss is in character development (which was emerging in Jackson and Ashley’s story), and it left me feeling distinctly uncomfortable and dissatisfied.
Great boxset and lead in to the cousins here are my individual reviews of each book Blown Away: Nice easy read about a lady on the run and one of the sexy as h$$l Moore Brothers. Great characters and with an author whose style I enjoy. While I enjoy the chemistry between these two I would have enjoyed it more if they had held out longer before jumping into bed even insta-love needs some time. I do enjoy this author so even though I enjoy a little more in my reads I am enjoying the boxset and will continue on to the next brother in the set in Carried Away. Carried away: Well James wasn't portrayed as the nicest guy and when he propositions Elle he can't seem any worse. But as you get the back story on how James became who he is you kinda change your impression of him as he becomes more human and the sweet side comes out. They are the perfect pair and although I am not a fan quick to bed stories I did enjoy this the second book in the series better than the first.
While these stories are interlinked because duh they are family you can read the as a standalone book. This author writes a great love story and having the group makes it better.
Swept Away Heat and passion these two have in spades. This is one I would have loved a longer story for just to get more into the character however I can't be mad that the author stuck with what she does well and that's a quick fast in your face story with no holds bared. It is a good read with characters that will appeal to some and to others not so much. However you feel this is enjoyable and fun and all Abby Brooks. On to the next book in the set.
Break Away Oh I love this story of the pretty pretty princess learning what the real world is all about. Her brother's are doing her a solid she is just being stubborn. Either way it goes life is getting ready to show up front and center and give some real life lessons. When the hunk of a neighbor turns out to be a good friend and helpful as well life on her own may not suck balls after all. Great story with less passion and more story so loads more to connect with between these two.
The novels in this series collection revolve around the Moores, a family that has abundance in all forms, and they're willing to share it with the right person. Three brothers, the sister, and a cousin find love in the appropriately-named Bliss, South Carolina (mostly; no spoilers). Absent some repetitive spelling and grammar issues, they're compelling, if not always likeable, characters, and this reader was late to work one morning, trying to get to one particular HEA mid-series!
These stories are absolutely the best i have read in a long time.
I love the whole Moore family and Bliss sounds like a place I would love to go. I couldn't put my Kindle down. I finished all five books in two days. I fell in love with the Moore men and I envied the ladies. I laughed and cried so much people thought I was nuts. If you are going to read one series this year make it this one. Bravo Abby Brooks! You rock and I can't wait to buy your other books.
Sweet love stories with nice characters. A big, loving family. The conflicts are never dragged out, but solved by talking and explaining. My favourites are Harry and Willow and Jackson and Ashley. I could sympathize with a long distance relationship because I lived one myself and I liked the character growth in the last book.
If you're looking for something sweet that will leave you with a smile on your lips, go for this. They leave you peaceful :)
This is a wonderful set of beautiful romances. I had read them previously as separate books, but to have them all together makes it even better. The Moore family is one for the decades, the men in the stories make the women even better. I wish there were more family members. Great job Abby Brooks.
This was a great collection. There are five books in one and each story was well written, with good character development and a storyline all its own. Had there been fewer errors ( lots of extra words in places so the sentence made no sense as written) this would have been worthy of a five star rating.
I loved this series. Each couple, each hardship and their happily ever afters. My only wish is to know who had what in terms of the children. It just mentioned cousins and babies and pregnancies but I wanted to know who had what. The series is highly addictive and I definitely recommend it.
Good reads! Cocky men but the girls are not afraid to give it back. My favorite Alpha is James He was brought down a peg or two. Go Ellie. Love the addition of a sister story would of left me guessing
This is a special family that support and love each other. The couples are amazing together! Abby is a one of my favorite authors and I've read all her books and her books under pen-name Wren Williams. She is a great writer and her stories touch your heart and gives you steamy love too!
As a bundle this is a real bargain. The romance is sweet and the characters are interesting. Each book is related but different. Be warned, there are some kinky sex scenes but they don't go too far.
The stories were great and the character chemistry was off the charts. Good read, but was disappointed there were so many grammatical errors and names of the wrong character or references in the story. It wasn’t just one book, but all had errors of some kind.
LOVED The MOORE'S..... Bravo.... Great series. Wow- you will love the town of Bliss and each and every Moore and there sexy, romantic, alpha love stories. Each story keeps you glued to the page. Great series... Sad to see it end
I truly enjoyed reading The Moore Series. It captured my attention from the start. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great book to relax ans read.
Family rules in this series. Each book depicts different struggles for each member of the family, though their love ends up guiding them through it all.
I absolutely loved reading this book and can't wait to read more from this author. Abby Brooks did an amazing job with these stories and I highly recommend reading this series
