“The piano upstairs played a ragtime bagatelle while he struggled against me—pathetic and useless, a weak ragdoll. The dancers’ steps disturbed the dust from the rafters, and it sprinkled his frantic eyes as they dimmed and all light extinguished. What cheerful music boasting against such a murderous feast?”

Five stars? Yes. Trust me. Five stars.

This Author...she's gained a new fan-girl. Her writing is SO compelling that I couldn't look away, and the next thing I know, I've read the entire story and was CRAVING more. *Give me, give me, give me!* *Please sir, may I have some more.*

My word, I can't get over how .... Apparently, I need to open a dictionary for this review, as I seem to be lacking words that accurately describe this book.

If you like dark erotica, THIS, right here, is the book and author for you.

I'm hesitant to give a description of this book, because it is a short story and I don't want to give everything away. The FMC is a sweet gal, caring, compassionate. And she's being taken advantage of in the most seductive way by vampires. The word STEAMY doesn't do it justice. Sweet baby Jesus, Holy hott-ness, was what I thought during those scenes. It wasn't even that intimate and I found it jaw dropping. Lucille has a way, guys and gals. She has a way.

You can find her books at her website - moncriefs.net. I believe this one is currently available for free download.

I love vampires. But lately, we've been assaulted by a slew of vampires in literature, which are good, and wholesome, and romantic....

When I heard that this one was about the immortal undead blood-suckers, I picked it up. The first couple of chapters in, I thought, "Now THESE are vampires!"

And they are. The vampires in this story are evil, diabolical, and erotic. I once heard someone say that, to a vampire, feeding and sex are almost indistinguishable from each other. And that's the impression I got in this book, too.

The story's told in first person, from a variety of different perspectives. Kind of reminiscent of Bram Stoker's Dracula, and I don't think that was an accident. But with so many characters, it got a bit difficult to follow, and it took me a while before I realised who was who.

And just when I did, the story ended in a "to be continued" style. Sure, it's a short story, and I LIKE short stories, but every story should have a conclusion. This one doesn't. It's not even a cliffhanger, per se. It's just the end of a chapter which is to be continued in the next book.

Nefarious: Volume One Kindle Edition
by Lucille Moncrief (Author), Carlo Clemente (Illustrator),
I voluntarily read a copy for review purposes.

More along the lines of Stoker's and LeFanu's masterpieces, we are not subjected to vampires seeking their lifemate or shining.

The writing is beautifully done, leading us back slowly to the Victorian period and the uptight world a young single woman must have lived in. As with Mina was released from that torture by the Count, Elyse finds pleasure in the inventions of a rather confused and lost vampire, Henderson. He wants something from her, something more than her blood and her screams of ecstasy

In this steam-punk world, there are also vampire hunters who roam from small towns in Canada to Savannah, Georgia.

While it may sound like your mother's vampire's novel, it is not! The writing is stunningly beautiful and the illustrations hint at a Neil Gaiman graphic novel.

Check me in for 2 and 3.

Upon opening the first page I was immediately interested in the plot-line of this novel. The author’s descriptions were so vivid and enticing. I could imagine every sensation, taste, smell, and feeling as if they were my own. However the provocative plot-line of this volume is, it is so well written that you can’t help but read on. Despite how uncomfortable or taboo the topic may be. It shows and interesting look into the not so distant history of medical practices in a very real, but dark way. It is not my typical read, but I am very glad I decided to give it a go. I give it a four out of five stars. The only thing that I was missing, was more content. I felt like i had just gotten to know the characters as the book ended. I am intrigued to read more by this very talented author.

I don't think dark erotica is my thing ... very disturbing. I don't have any problem w/ sex scenes ... I just prefer them to be between consenting adults.

The summary appears to have nothing to do with this very short & strange vampire story.
Apparently this is volume 1 but it is missing a lot of background hinted at in the final few pages.

I have had this book quite a while but just got around to reading it. Of course I wish I had gotten to it sooner. I love Lucille Moncrief's beautifully unique voice.
