Black Magic Outlaw #1-3

Black Magic Outlaw: Books 1 - 3

Rate this book
Being a necromancer is kinda cool until you wake up half dead in a dumpster.

Cisco Suarez is into something bad. Wanted by police, drenched in the stink of dark magic, and nether creatures coming out of the woodwork. Is resurrection overrated or what?

This box set contains the first three Black Magic Outlaw novels (Dead Man, Shadow Play, and Heart Strings) all at one special omnibus price.

Book 1 - Dead Man: ⭐⭐⭐
Exactly what one would expect from a book being compared to Dresden Files and other paranormal vigilantes. Some anachronisms but they're overall minor. I didn't experience this as some sort of new niche, like the author intended, but it was entertaining enough.

Book 2 - Shadow Play: ⭐⭐⭐ (⭐)
I wonder if the twist hold water if one were to re-read this 😅. I'm not convinced but have no proof. As it stands, I was very much entertained

Book 3 - Heart Strings: ⭐⭐
Meh. The MC was so unbelievably stupid in this one; it was exhausting. He's aware of the environment impacting him oddly but blindly trudge forth anyway. The first time, can be excused but repeatedly making the same mistakes in 1 book? Ugh.
Some more anachronisms. I'm certain this time. While talking about coming back to life he says that happened 3 weeks ago, meaning these 3 books take place over the course of 3 weeks but when talking about hardships he's undergone since being revived it's suddenly, "I been on the run for weeks", "the cops been looking for me for weeks" if not months.

One of my new favourite urban fantasy series'! The stories are exciting, inventive, and the books are packed with some hefty emotional punch. Cisco is complicated, but is a man of action who will do whatever he needs to.

I absolutely love the magic he uses and the author's take on necromancy. It makes for thrilling fight scenes. My second favourite part of the series is the relationships Cisco makes with friends, family, and shady acquaintances. I have completely fallen in love with the characters and am thrilled to see where they are going to go.

A must have for anyone who loves gritty urban fantasy, anti-heroes, magic, action, and complicated heroes!

Urban fantasy at it's best

Not just good guys and bad guys - people who make good and bad choices, have regrets and hopes and dreams, and relationships that are complicated and sometimes scary.

Plus magic that isn't Western-centric, minimal romance and no sex distracting me from the plot!

Frisco is up there with Harry Dresden - a dark, complex, human man who makes the best decisions he can even when all the choices suck.

This was a enjoyable read, not riveting, but fun. This Audible book is 3 books for the price of 1.
A Latin necromancer with a habit of stating, Cisco Suarez (his name) quite a bit.
He is a 24 yr old Necromancer who wakes up in a Dumpster and finds it is 10 yrs later. Now he wants to find out what happened, who caused it and why. Narrator does a good job with this Audible book

Great book, similar but different

The book has a similar feel to other wizard books, but the character is quite different and the monsters are also not the usual suspects. I would recommend this book to anyone.
