Learn to read with beloved bunnies Max and Ruby in this rhyming story!

Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
Rosemary Wells is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She often uses animal characters to address real human issues. Some of her most well-known characters are Max & Ruby and Timothy from Timothy Goes To School (both were later adapted into Canadian-animated preschool television series, the former’s airing on Nickelodeon (part of the Nick Jr. block) and the latter’s as part of PBS Kids on PBS).
Max and Ruby expect to simply have lunch together. But no no!
Max's lunch is missing. Will those two clever little bunnies manage to find it?
Once the mystery is solved, the solution makes total sense. Although, of course, no spoiler will come from me, no no!
WHAT'S CHARMING ABOUT THIS BOOK
To me, the rhymes aren't charming. Erggggg.
Despite my understanding that rhyming books can be very helpful for developing literacy in new readers.
What's charming though is altogether different. It's how the characters talk (and evidently) think like first graders.
Just two examples will give you the idea, Goodreaders.
EXAMPLE 1. From Lily, after eating one lunch.
"We'll never be hungry again."
EXAMPLE 2. Max's lament, before his lunch is found.
"Where's my lunch? It's gone away! Now I have nothing to eat today!"
RATING THIS BOOK
I give it FIVE STARS. Especially because of reminding adults like me how little people may seem to make sense, but that is always going to be age appropriate sense. Only.
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
I picked up two Max & Ruby books at the same time as I thought the bunnies might appeal. She didn't particularly like Ruby trying to write a story while Max interrupts and was far more endeared with Max trying to find his lunchbox at school.
Simple text describing the food in max's lunch. Max misplaces his lunch only to have one of his friends from school share hers. His sister Ruby checks with bus driver and finds his missing lunch!
